Which Fast Food Chains Have the Best Coffee?

A reliable place to get coffee is essential for people who need their morning caffeine fix. If you’re looking to save time and, in some cases, money, consider making the stop at your favorite fast food restaurant instead of the coffee house.

Starbucks is the largest coffeehouse company in the world

Lots of these places have quick and enjoyable coffee options.

One of the best aspects of choosing fast food coffee is having choices available everywhere. People are creatures of habit, and having your preferred coffee selection makes traveling less burdensome.

Not all fast food coffee is great, so we’re narrowing down the choices. There are many places on this list of fast food coffee, from coffee specific chains to fast food favorites.

Whether your order is low maintenance or complicated, we’ve found spots where you can get your coffee quickly.

Let’s look at some of the best fast food coffee places to grab a cup of morning brew.

Starbucks coffee

Starbucks is one of the most renowned coffee chains globally, operating its stores and setting up franchisees to do the same.

If you’re particular about your coffee, Starbucks will probably be your best bet. Not only does Starbucks have a large selection of milks, including dairy-free options, but at Starbucks, you have your choice of roasts too!

My go-to drink at Starbucks is a caramel macchiato with coconut milk made with blonde espresso. Contrary to popular belief, lightly roasted coffee has more caffeine than a dark roast!

If you’re looking for a little extra boost, I recommend ordering whatever you’re drinking with a Starbucks’ signature blonde roasts.

However, remember that blonde roasts can be more acidic, so if you have a sensitive stomach, you may want to stick to dark or medium roasts.

Dunkin’ Donuts coffee

Dunkin Donuts has long been a great spot to grab a delicious donut and a cup of coffee.

As the franchise continued to grow, they’ve also expanded its coffee menu. One of the best things is the flavors added to their drinks.

When I visit Dunkin’, I like to grab an iced signature latte with cake batter flavor.

If you don’t have a Dunkin’ Donuts in your area, you can still get a taste of one of America’s favorite coffees.

Recently, Dunkin’ has started selling bags of their beans, including the flavors that keep customers returning to the restaurant daily!

McDonald’s coffee

McDonald’s has curated an extensive list of coffee beverages, rivaling the options available at places that specialize in coffee.

Hot and iced mochas, lattes, cappuccinos, and regular coffee are available here.

If you like blended coffee, try one of the frappès. The restaurant’s drinks use a bold espresso made from dark roast sustainably-sourced beans.

When I stop by McDonald’s for my morning cup of coffee, I like to order the french vanilla cappuccino.

The flavored syrup adds just the right amount of sweetness. McDonald’s also uses whole milk in their coffee drinks, so if you enjoy a rich-tasting coffee, try the options at this restaurant.

Burger King coffee

While Burger King doesn’t have an extensive coffee menu, most restaurants offer hot and cold options.

Compared to other places on this list, Burger King coffee didn’t have quite the same kick for me.

This turned out to be good since I visited in the late afternoon and didn’t want to be wired from too much caffeine.

If you’re looking for a fast, no-frills cup of coffee Burger King is a good choice. When I stop by, I always get the vanilla iced coffee.

The best perk about ordering coffee at Burger King is the many breakfast options available if you visit in the morning.

Chick-fil-A coffee

Chick-fil-A may be more famous for its sweet teas, but this chain restaurant also offers coffee.

THRIVE® Farmers provide the beans for the brew, growing the special arabica blend exclusive to the franchise. This factor sets Chick-fil-A apart with a distinct tasting coffee.

When I visit Chick-fil-A, I usually stick to a plain cup of coffee. Creamer and sweeteners are provided upon request, with a few options for each.

If you stop during the fall, try adding the seasonal autumn spice syrup for a unique sweet addition to your coffee. If you’re cutting down on sugar, the restaurant also carries Splenda.

Wendy’s coffee

Though not as large as others, Wendy’s restaurants offer quite a few selections of coffee.

They have hot brewed coffee, including decaffeinated. This blend is a medium roast made from Arabica beans.

The cold coffees here aren’t just iced versions of the hot drink. Wendy’s uses a rich, intensely flavored cold brew instead.

I couldn’t write about Wendy’s coffee without mentioning the Frosty-ccino®. Do you ever want ice cream for breakfast but need to caffeinate first?

Ordering a Frosty-ccino® splits the difference. Wendy’s starts with their cold brew and uses their signature for Frosty for creaminess and sweetens the drink.

Panera Bread coffee

Panera Bread is one of the few places on our list with different roasts available in-store.

Try either the Colombian dark roast or the light roast blend here. Panera also has a variety of cold brew drinks to choose from.

Panera also offers almond milk if you’re looking for a coffee place with dairy-free options.

My personal favorite here is the Madagascar vanilla cream cold brew. The drink is sweet yet rich. If you want to garner some favor at the office, think about ordering a tote.

Panera totes have about a gallon of coffee to share and should serve around ten people. If you decide to order a tote, give your barista around fifteen minutes to prepare it or order it ahead of time.

Sonic Drive-in coffee

Sonic is one of the most popular places to stop for sweet treats like slushes and milkshakes.

Many customers come to Sonic for their afternoon happy hour menu, but if you’re looking for a new coffee spot, you might benefit from visiting Sonic in the morning. Green Mountain roasts the hot coffee here.

The restaurant has cold options as well. I get the cold brew iced coffee made with sweet cream whenever I visit Sonic.

Since Sonic makes other treats, they should have chocolate and caramel syrup on hand if you want to add extra flavor to your drink.

Taco Bell coffee

Taco Bell has great Tex-Mex favorites that lend themselves well to breakfast.

If you’re a fan of breakfast burritos, there’s no need to make two stops for your morning snack and coffee. Taco Bell offers hot and cold coffee beverages.

If you love cinnamon rolls, you need to try my Taco Bell morning favorite.

The hot Cinnabon Delights® premium roast coffee is flavored with vanilla creamer and cinnamon sugar, just like your favorite treats at the restaurant.

On hot days, I like to order this drink iced. If you’re not a fan of cinnamon, there are also plain coffee options that you can sweeten yourself.

Carl’s Jr. coffee

Carl’s Jr. serves hot coffee made from a dark roast of Arabica coffee.

This is available in decaf as well as the fully caffeinated version. Like most other restaurants serving coffee, you can get your coffee with various sweeteners and cream here if you prefer something other than just black coffee

The coffee here is basic, but sometimes that’s all a cup of coffee needs to be. Carl’s Jr. has some great breakfast options that might make you want to visit the fast food chain.

Carl’s Jr. uses crispy and flakey biscuits for their breakfast sandwiches that will make you want to head over in the morning.

Culver’s was founded in Wisconsin, known as the dairy state.

The evidence of this is all over its menu with butter burgers, cheese curds, and fresh custard.

The high quality of coffee this fast food restaurant serves might not be apparent at first glance at the menu.

Torke Family Coffee Roasters provides the beans for Culver’s signature brew. The family, also based in Wisconsin, has produced quality for over eighty years.

They make their coffee in much smaller batches than other coffee available at fast food chains. It’s no wonder that Torke’s signature Culver’s coffee is a favorite of many visitors!

Jack in the Box coffee

Jack in the Box serves hot and cold coffee anytime you’re ready for your next cup!

The restaurant brews High Mountain brand coffee made from arabica coffee beans. My preferred drink from this fast food spot is the caramel sweet cream iced coffee.

It has a sweet blend of caramel and cream, an excellent option if you have a sweet tooth.

If you try out Jack in the Box for yourself, you might want to check the website ahead of time.

Not all locations serve the same menu items. Luckily, most of these restaurants do serve coffee.

Tim Horton’s Coffee

While Tim Horton’s Coffee is more well known in Canada, the franchise operates several of its stores in the United States.

They make delicious cold drinks for the summer and hot choices for when it’s cooler. My favorite drink here is the Hershey s’mores creamy chill served with whipped cream and graham cracker crumbles.

If you don’t live close to a Tim Horton’s and still want to sample the coffee, pick up a bag of beans from a retail location near you.

The coffee can also be found online and comes in whole bean, instant, and coffee pods. Canada’s favorite coffee is worth trying, even if you have to brew it yourself.
