Beef Pot Roast Sandwich

The Beef Pot Roast Sandwich reminded me of the pot roast I had as a kid on Sundays. Think chuck roast, cooked with herbs and spices, then hand-shredded before being nestled in one of Culver’s signature buns. I also added a soft drink, plus one of Culver’s sides. Add your choice of coleslaw, steamed broccoli, mashed potatoes, and gravy, crinkle French fries or onion rings, and you have a meal you will not soon forget. Plus, the Value Basket route got me a great meal while saving money. What is not to like?

Grilled Chicken Sandwich

Culver’s brags about their Grilled Chicken Sandwich and with good reason. It is not bragging if it is just stating the truth. The Grilled Chicken Sandwich I had featured a whole white meat chicken breast seasoned with salt and pepper and cooked to perfection on the grill, fresh lettuce, tomato and pickle and served in a toasted hoagie roll.  To say this sandwich is savory is an understatement. The chicken was juicy, and the salt and pepper brought out its amazing flavor. Apart from the chicken, the standout with this sandwich is the roll, which is buttered and crisped, adding a slight crunch to the mix.

ButterBurger

This is my favorite and what started it all for Culver’s, which is why they call it “The Original.” You know when a sandwich gets its nickname, it will be tasty. Here is the layout: A fresh, never-frozen beef patty, seared on a grill, onion, pickles, mustard, and ketchup all on a buttered, toasted bun.  The Butterburger stands as a full meal by itself but add an order of fries to it, and it is one of the best fast food dinners you will ever have. Build your meal with a Value Basket, and you have a meal to last you all day.

Cranberry Bacon Bleu Salad

Most fast-food restaurants give lip service to healthy eating options. Culver’s spent a lot of time creating healthy options for its customers. One of those options is the Cranberry Bacon Bleu Salad. The ingredients are a hand-seasoned, grilled chicken breast and pieces of bacon blended with mixed greens, cucumber slices, and grape tomatoes.  Tangy cranberries and savory bleu cheese top it all off. The result is a mouthwatering Culver’s classic that is as healthy for you as it is tasty.

Crispy Chicken Sandwich

Culver’s Crispy Chicken Sandwich takes the near-perfection of the grilled chicken sandwich and adds crunchy southern style breading to it. Better, the breading is mixed with salt, pepper, onion, garlic, and cayenne seasoning, adding a tangy bite to the crunchy goodness. Fresh lettuce, ripe tomatoes, and pickle slices top the innards off.   All of that is served on a toasted Kaiser bun. The key is in how the southern style breading adds flavor to the chicken without sacrificing its taste or tenderness. This is their best non-burger sandwich that does not resemble a full meal. If you are not going with a burger, go with the Crispy Chicken Sandwich.

George’s Chili Supreme

George’s chili is a tasty mixture of medium-spicy, simmered homestyle beef, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, red kidney beans, peppers, onion, celery, and chili spices. It is a customer favorite that took years to perfect and is difficult to top. The Chili Supreme is George’s chili, plus toppings of sour cream, cheese, and onion. Eat it as a meal or a side George’s Chili Supreme will leave you satisfied but anticipating next time you order this spicy classic. Add it with a salad, and you get a meal that rivals perfection.

Grilled Reuben Melt Sandwich

Most people assume the Rueben originated in New York City’s delis, but the reality is no one knows. There is, however, a credible theory it started in Omaha, NE, in the 1920s. Regardless, the Rueben is a classic sandwich that Culver’s has taken and turned into a mainstay of its menu. To do that, Culver’s takes hand-trimmed, lean corned beef, cured in seasoned brine and slow-cooked, piles it on a lightly buttered, toasted rye bread slice and tops it with melted Wisconsin Swiss, sauerkraut, and Thousand Island dressing.

Mashed Potatoes & Gravy

Culver’s is one of the few places I have been to that serves fast food but still pulls off “homecooked.” The Culver’s Mashed Potatoes and Gravy is a perfect example. Each order tastes like home because it is 100 percent fresh Russet potatoes, mixed with milk, and seasoning and mashed until light and fluffy. Then, there is the gravy. Homestyle and made with real broth and seasoning, it will remind you of homecooked goodness. The mashed potatoes are so good you can eat an order alone or as a side with another delicious meal off the menu like I did.

Mushroom & Swiss ButterBurger

As with Culver’s Butterburgers, the Mushroom and Swiss combo blends three ingredients into a taste explosion you will not soon forget. Start with fresh, never frozen beef molded into two patties and sear it to lock in flavor and juices. We liked the way it was all cooked separately and then brought together on the bun. There was no rushing the cooking process. Once cooked, the patties are layered on a signature Culver’s buttery, toasted bun with white button mushrooms sauteed in salt, pepper, parsley, and a little garlic. Each layer gets topped with melted, real Wisconsin Swiss cheese. It is easily one of my favorite burgers at Culver’s, as its rich flavor never gets boring.

North Atlantic Cod Dinner

Hamburger restaurants are not usually known for their seafood, but as with so much of Culver’s menu, their North Atlantic Cod Dinner is an exception that proves the rule. North Atlantic cod is hand-cut and battered in a thick batter that fries to a delicate golden brown.  Like many items on Culver’s menu, it is battered and cooked after placing your order, ensuring freshness. Once cooked, it is served hot with the Culver family recipe tartar sauce that includes olives, capers, and sweet relish. Each meal comes with two sides, plus a warm, buttered dinner roll.

Original Chicken Tenders

Just about every restaurant brags about their chicken tenders. My opinion is that Culver’s delivers. Tender, whole white meat is hand-trimmed and fried to a golden brown. The tenders are then served with a choice of sauce, including BBQ, honey mustard, or ranch.  Tender orders come in four and two pieces. I like the four-piece, but the two-piece is more than enough if you are looking for a quick snack or are not hungry enough for a full meal. Original chicken tenders might not be enough on their own to satisfy your hunger. It is safe to say that everyone, from kid to adult, will love these tenders.

Sourdough Melt

If you are looking for something a little lighter, the Sourdough Melt is your sandwich. Start with fresh, never frozen beef and sear it, made to your liking. Add melted, real Wisconsin-aged Cheddar cheese and grilled onions, and you have a meal. Put that between two lightly buttered, toasted sourdough bread slices, and you have the Culver’s Sourdough Melt. The Sourdough Melt comes in three sizes: Single, Double, and Triple. That lets you choose the size of your meal to fit your desires perfectly, whether you are looking for a light meal or feeling really hungry. Add a side of fries and a soft drink to it, and you have the makings of a classic Culver’s dinner.

The Culver’s Bacon Deluxe

The Culver’s ButterBurger stands on its own. It is a challenge to top it. One way is to add bacon. If I was not a fan of the original so much, this would give every other burger on Culver’s menu a real run for their money. After the fresh, never frozen beef patty or patties are cooked to order, two strips of crispy bacon and real Wisconsin cheese get added to them.  In addition, the Bacon Deluxe has fresh lettuce, ripe tomatoes, pickles, sweet red onion, and Culver’s signature mayo. The entire operation goes in a toasted, buttery bun. Other restaurants claim they have great bacon burgers, and those restaurants might, but none compare to this culinary gem.

Wisconsin Cheese Curds

Cheese curds are a Midwest delicacy. Culver’s cheese curds live up to that billing. Each curd contains unaged yellow and white Wisconsin cheddar cheese deep-fried until golden brown. Once fried, it has a warm buttery crunch. Culver’s Wisconsin Cheese Curds are great as a snack or an appetizer to other delicious Culver’s foods. Culver’s works with the La Grander Hillside Dairy in Stanley, Wisconsin. Their agreement with La Grander is exclusive. That means you are guaranteed to be getting the freshest cheese possible when you place your order of cheese curds.

Wisconsin Swiss Melt

The Wisconsin Swiss Melt starts with fresh, never frozen beef patties cooked to order after being seared on the grill. Once cooked, real, fresh, Wisconsin Swiss cheese and fresh, grilled red onions get added to the beef patties. I found the fact that it gets served between slabs of rye bread a nice touch. If there is such a thing as a “comfort burger,” this is it. Made to order, as is all the food at Culver’s, this sandwich immerses you in great-tasting beef and melts in your mouth cheese, both flavored with slightly caramelized red onions. The rye adds just enough of a twist to keep the sandwich slightly mysterious while maintaining the robustness of a burger.
