Our Favorite Rome Sushi Spots

Rome is one of the most visited cities in Italy and maybe even Europe.

There’s so much culture, history, and fun for tourists to have.

It’s no secret that the food in Rome is one of the main draws.

People flock from all over to get a taste of authentic pizza, pasta, and other Italian dishes.

While there’s nothing wrong with indulging in pasta or pizza every day in Rome, switching things up is excellent.

If you find yourself craving sushi, you’re in luck.

There are plenty of great sushi restaurants in the city.

When you can’t get sushi out of your head, here’s where you can find the best sushi in Rome.

Ginza

Via Emanuele Filiberto, 249/251, 00185 Roma RM, Italy
Phone: +39 06 700 5739
Visit Website

If you’re looking for great sushi near the Colosseum, Ginza needs to be on your list of restaurants to try.

This traditional Japanese restaurant brings the flavors of Japan to Italy.

It’s a semi-casual spot with a laid-back atmosphere that people love.

The menu at Ginza features all your favorite Japanese dishes and plenty of sushi rolls and sashimi for you to enjoy.

They offer an a la carte menu and an all-you-can-eat option when you’re really hungry.

The banzai roll with fried shrimp, crab, and mayo is one of my personal favorites you need to try.

Hamasei – 割烹 濱清

Via della Mercede, 35/36, 00187 Roma RM, Italy
Phone: +39 06 679 2134
Visit Website

You’ll find Hamasei in the heart of Rome, only a few minutes north of the Trevi Fountain and the surrounding tourist areas.

You’ll feel a sense of peace from the moment you walk in, even though the restaurant is bustling with hungry guests.

The knowledgeable and friendly staff ensures you have a great dining experience.

Hamasei has plenty of Japanese cuisine on the dish, but people come here for sushi and sashimi more than anything.

If you like sashimi, I recommend you try their sashimi morikami.

It comes with six different pieces of sashimi hand chosen by the chef, and the dish never disappoints.

Hasekura Ristorante Giapponese

Via dei Serpenti, 27, 00184 Roma RM, Italy
Phone: +39 06 483648

Hasekura Ristorante Giapponese is in the Monti neighborhood of Rome, and before you turn away, know that looks can be deceiving.

From the outside, the restaurant doesn’t look like anything special, but I promise it’s worth trying.

It’s been a local favorite since opening in 1993, and tourists enjoy it too.

The menu here is everything you’d expect to see at a Japanese and sushi restaurant.

I love their miso soup to start but indulging in the sushi rolls is where it’s at.

I also enjoy the classics like a Boston and California roll and ordering a side of white rice to enjoy alongside it.

Ristorante Rokko

Passeggiata di Ripetta, 15, 00186 Roma RM, Italy
Phone: +39 06 322 3414

Ristorante Rokko is along the Tiber River, just an 18-minute walk from the Trevi Fountain.

Even though it’s on the river, it doesn’t have outdoor seating, but the location is still great.

The inside of the restaurant feels more like a traditional Italian joint, but the menu and simple touches remind you you’re at a Japanese restaurant.

The menu here features several Japanese dishes, but you’ll also find some pasta dishes on the menu that feature fresh seafood.

I love their vegetarian options, too, making it an excellent place for you to chow down on sushi but still have your vegetarian friends join you.

If you manage to eat here, you should try the homemade dumplings and fresh tuna.

Sakana Sushi

Via del Gazometro, 54, 00154 Roma RM, Italy
Phone: +39 375 623 5866
Visit Website

Sakana Sushi is in South Rome, a little further away from all the main tourist attractions.

Even though it’s a little bit off the beaten path, it’s a great restaurant worth stopping at while you’re in Rome.

This warm, inviting restaurant features dim lighting, traditional Japanese decor, and a hibachi table.

This intimate restaurant has plenty of sashimi, sushi, nigiri, and fried dishes.

My favorite items on the menu are the avocado salmon roll, spicy tuna roll, and Hawaiian roll.

The mixed sushi rolls are great if you’re dining with friends because you get enough for two or four people to share.

Zen Sushi

Via degli Scipioni, 243, 00192 Roma RM, Italy
Phone: +39 06 321 3420

You’ll find Zen Sushi on the west side of the Tiber River.

It’s only a 10-minute drive from Vatican City, so this location is a great spot for lunch or dinner before or after exploring that area of Rome.

I love the outdoor seating on the sidewalk when the weather’s nice, but inside, the lights are dim, and it feels like a modern Japanese restaurant.

Zen Sushi has what you would expect on its menu.

There are many appetizers, sushi, nigiri, and other Japanese dishes.

I love starting my meal off with a seaweed salad with shrimp and octopus if you eat here.

As for the best sushi rolls here, you can’t go wrong with the chef’s special mix of sushi.

Kiko Sushi Bar

Piazzale del Verano, 90, 00185 Roma RM, Italy
Phone: +39 06 9484 9822

Less than a five-minute walk from the Basilica of St. Lawrence is the Kiki Sushi Bar.

The restaurant is camouflaged well, so you might miss it if you’re not looking for it.

Typically the outdoor covered seating is full, but the inside is my favorite.

It’s sleek, modern, and a great date night spot in Rome.

I highly recommend booking a tasting so you can try some of the chef’s best dishes, but they also have several a la carte options.

The best options on their a la carte sushi menu are Japanese omelet sashimi, seabass nigiri, and mackerel sashimi.

Okasan

Via Ostia, 22, 00192 Roma RM, Italy
Phone: +39 06 3972 4419

Okasen is just north of Vatican City on the city’s west side.

As with the other sushi restaurants in Rome, on the outside, they look like traditional Italian restaurants.

But when you walk inside, you’re surrounded by authentic Japanese decor and atmosphere.

I love how elegant this restaurant is.

Okasen’s menu features all your favorite Japanese dishes.

Every menu item is rooted in Japanese tradition and made with these traditions in mind.

The menu mostly features dishes from the Kansai region in Japan.

You can’t miss trying the age salmon roll and black dragon roll.

Ristorante Genkai

Viale Jonio, 289, 00141 Roma RM, Italy
Phone: +39 333 505 8404

If you’re willing to travel further from the city center of Rome to find delicious sushi, then Ristorante Genkai is an excellent option.

It’s in Municipio III, about 12 to 20 minutes north of the city center where you’ll find some incredible gelato shops, too.

The restaurant features a modern design with plenty of natural lighting during the day.

The minimalist decor allows the food to shine.

Ristorante Genkai offers plenty of sushi rolls to satisfy even the pickiest sushi eater.

This establishment is the restaurant you come to with a large appetite.

They have an all-you-can-eat option, which I love taking advantage of.

You can try amazing rolls like salmon rolls, spicy tuna, and specialty rolls for a flat rate.

Shiroya

Via Dei Baullari, 147a, 00186 Roma RM, Italy
Phone: +39 06 6476 0753

You’ll find Shiroya just south of Piazza Navona.

Whether you want to eat and then wander around the area or need a break from exploring, Shiroya is the perfect sushi joint.

The restaurant features plenty of black and red accents but has a reasonably Italian ambiance, despite the cuisine.

Shiroya’s menu has a little bit of everything.

The edamame is the best way to start your meal off.

You can enjoy it while sipping your beverage of choice while waiting for your entree or sushi to arrive.

I love the scallop nigiri, squid sashimi, and eel nigiri the best.

Somo

Via Goffredo Mameli, 5, 00153 Roma RM, Italy
Phone: +39 06 588 2060

Somo is a short walk away from Villa Sciarra and is nestled in a relatively large building.

This place is the type of restaurant you go to when you want to impress a date, celebrate something, or just want to treat yourself to a really lovely meal.

Even though it’s elegant, I would hardly call the restaurant pretentious.

The chefs at Somo plate everything beautifully, so you’ll probably want to take photos of it before you dig in.

Some of the most popular sushi choices people order here are the red tuna and avocado roll, salmon sashimi, and the sea bass and passionfruit roll.

Sushisen

Via Giuseppe Giulietti, 21A, 00154 Roma RM, Italy
Phone: +39 06 575 6945
Visit Website

Two minutes on foot from the Rome War Cemetery is Sushisen.

This place is a fine dining Japanese restaurant, so you’ll want to dress to impress here, and it’s always best to try and snag a reservation to ensure you get a table.

The elegant restaurant makes you feel like the most important person in the room.

There are many dishes you’ll love on Sushisen’s menu and they serve nothing but the freshest fish.

If you ask me, the Siberian classic caviar is the best way to start your meal.

The bluefin tuna sashimis are among the most popular menu items, as is the random assortment of five sashimi pieces the chef chooses.

Taki

Via Marianna Dionigi, 54-62, 00193 Roma RM, Italy
Phone: +39 06 320 1750

Right across from Piazza Cavour is Taki. This sushi restaurant is stunning.

Black is the primary color in the place, with black walls, furniture, and dark flooring, but the atmosphere feels upbeat for some reason.

Taki’s menu is one of my favorites in Rome.

Besides all the delicious and fresh sushi, it’s the only Japanese restaurant in Rome where you can get authentic and high-quality wagyu beef.

I highly recommend ordering that alongside the shrimp sashimi.

Tora Sushi Restaurant

Corso del Rinascimento, 71, 00186 Roma RM, Italy
Phone: +39 06 8913 4334
Visit Website

After you’re done admiring the Neptune Fountain, you can walk to Tora Sushi Restaurant and get there within a few minutes.

The restaurant is on a bustling street near some great pizzerias and is frequently busy.

The atmosphere is laid-back but bustling.

I didn’t have the chance to eat at Tora Sushi Restaurant when in Rome, but people were raving about it frequently.

Some of the best dishes at this restaurant are the cooked shrimp and seared tuna sushi, but they have plenty of Asian dishes for those who don’t want sushi or sashimi.

Zuma Rome

Via della Fontanella di Borghese, 48, 00186 Roma RM, Italy
Phone: +39 06 9926 6622
Visit Website

Zuma Rome is in one of the central shopping districts of Rome, north of the Colosseum and Trevi Fountain.

This sushi restaurant stands out amongst the others because it has a rooftop terrace that provides some of the best views in Rome.

It’s romantic but still fabulous when dining solo or with friends.

This restaurant has all your favorite sushi rolls and sashimi on the menu.

If you’re struggling to choose what to order, you can’t go wrong with their snapper and fatty tuna sushi.

I also love the o-toro aburi and black truffle sushi.
