Traveling is one of the best experiences you can have. If you’re a foodie like me, France is one of the best places to travel to, not only for the culture but for the delicious cuisine.
French cuisine is known around the world for its bold flavors, decadent ingredients, and beautiful presentation.
During a trip to France, I decided to visit the small town of Annecy. Annecy is close to the Swiss and Italian border. This beautiful town is nestled in the mountains and has an old-world feel.
I ate at several lovely restaurants while there, so check out my list of the best restaurants in Annecy below!

L’Esquisse is just south of the Centre Ville and the Annecy train station. It’s near the river and the lake, making it a great place to stop for a bite to eat while you explore this beautiful city.
L’Esquisse offers some incredible fine dining. The menu constantly rotates, so I recommend asking the attentive staff what they recommend.
Additionally, L’Esquisse has a top-notch wine cellar. A meal at this high-end establishment isn’t complete without a quality bottle of wine.
Remember to make a reservation to ensure you’re not disappointed!

You can find Le Denti south of the Le Thiou River in the Les Balmettes neighborhood of Annecy. This restaurant is run by a couple that has a love for seafood.
It’s a favorite restaurant for locals and tourists alike. The menu features mostly fish, and the chefs use seasonal ingredients to keep the meals as fresh as possible.
The menu changes based on what is available, but some more popular dishes include the lake fish soup and filet of perch.
I loved the upscale atmosphere and the French-inspired decor. Pairing these elements with decadent food creates an unforgettable experience.

Le Semper Fi is just south of the Centre Ville and north of the Le Thiou River. This award-winning Italian restaurant is the perfect choice for someone looking for something besides French food.
You shouldn’t shy away from Italian food in Annecy. The Italian border is close, and many ingredients are easily imported from Italy.
Le Semper Fi has a wide variety of small plates and antipasti. I highly recommend the cheese plates as they’re to die for.
The pasta is all made fresh in-house, and the menu changes frequently based on available ingredients. So, you know you’re getting high-quality food.

Le Clos Des Sens is in the La Barallaz neighborhood east of Annecy. Although this restaurant is far from the city center, I promise that the food is worth the detour.
This restaurant is the ideal spot for a culinary experience or a fancy date. The menu features 5, 7, and 9 flavor journeys with fresh fish and seasonal ingredients.
This restaurant is one of the most popular in Annecy, meaning it’s essential to book a table so you don’t miss out.
I choose to have the seven flavor journey and still dream about the experience. The food was layered and full of enticing textures and flavors.

L’Heure Tourne is in the heart of Annecy. It’s east of the train station and a several-minute walk from the lake. L’Heure Tourne is the perfect place to grab a quick bite to eat while exploring the city center.
L’Heure Tourney serves up the freshest burgers in Annecy. I was surprised to find a burger joint in Annecy, but I was blown away by the high-quality burgers they served.
In addition to juicy burgers, this restaurant serves decadent cookies, rich desserts, fresh salads, and refreshing drinks
This restaurant is more laidback than many of the options on this list, making it the perfect family spot.

If you want something classier in the city center, visit La Ciboulette. It’s a short walk from L’Heure Tourney but serves up a different type of fare.
La Ciboulette is French fine dining and wine pairing at its best! This classy establishment is wonderfully decorated, and the food is even better.
I highly recommend the seven-course tasting menu. The menu regularly changes, but the tasting menu allows you to try out the best that the chefs at La Ciboulette have to offer.
The restaurant is open from Tuesday to Saturday, but remember to make a reservation as it gets quite busy.

You can find Le Bilboquet in the Les Balmettes neighborhood of Annecy. It’s south of the river but relatively close to the city center.
This restaurant is in an old house, creating a cozy atmosphere with stunning touches of French decor.
The intimate setting and homey decorations are perfect for the food they serve. The menu changes each week and is based on local ingredients.
It truly feels like you’re eating a meal prepared by a friend. I highly recommend visiting this restaurant during lunchtime as they make the perfect mid-day meal.

Le Chalet is north of the Le Thiou river in the city center and is one of the best restaurants in Annecy. It’s right on the river near the Musee-Chateau D’Annecy, making it a great place to stop after enjoying some fine art.
The restaurant has a rustic setting, a wood fireplace, and other prominent wood decorations. Like many other restaurants in Annecy, the menu rotates with the seasons.
When I visited I had outstanding food, including foie gras, tuna tartar, and truffle risotto with parmesan. I wouldn’t hesitate to order these dishes again!
I recommend pairing your meal with one of their many wine options. The romantic setting makes this restaurant perfect for a date night.

Le Freti is on the other side of the river from Le Chalet. This restaurant is all about cold cuts and cheese.
Eating at Le Frenti was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had at a restaurant. The cozy atmosphere makes this restaurant a fantastic place to visit with friends or family.
Although the various fondues are to die for, there are several other standout dishes, including:
- The French Onion Soup
- Goat’s Cheese and Potatoes
- Crêpe with Roquefort Cheese
If you’re wanting something lighter, the restaurant has several fresh salads. My favorite was the Orchard Salad, which comes with nuts, Roquefort cheese, and fresh slices of green apple.
If you’re ever in the area, check out these best restaurants in Annecy. You won’t be disappointed.
From fine dining to more casual fare, Annecy has it all. And, of course, the views of the lake are unbeatable. And if you’re headed to Switzerland, be sure to visit these incredible places to eat in Montreux.
