So, you’re in the mood for a slice of pizza but the takeaway just takes too long to deliver. Thankfully, this is when frozen pizzas can step in.
While a frozen pizza may not be your first port of call when craving a slice of delicious cheesy goodness, they are a dependable choice in certain situations.
The freezer aisles at the grocery store are jam-packed with different styles of pizzas from thick crust, thin crust, and even cheese-stuffed crusts with a bounty of meat toppings or vegetables.
In this article, we will be discussing the best frozen pizza options ranked from best to worst so you can decide on which one will satisfy your cravings most.
So, let’s not wait around. Get the oven ready for some delicious frozen pizzas!
Tombstone Roadhouse Loaded Double Down Deluxe Pizza
Our number two choice has to be this delectable pie chart of heaven from Tombstone Roadhouse.
This pizza has a whole lot of flavors going on with the pepperoni and Italian sausage complementing each other perfectly.
Combine the meat with the array of vegetables (red bell peppers, caramelized onions, dried garlic, etc) and it’s like a firework of different flavors blending together with perfection.
The sauce is also extremely delicious with a crust that is the right amount of crispy for, what we consider, an almost perfect frozen pizza.
Screamin’ Sicilian Pizza Co. Bessie’s Revenge Cheese
Here, we have a premium pizza from Screamin’ Sicilian Pizza Co.
Boasting a thinner and crisper cut than ever before, Bessie’s Revenge pizza has a robust, tangy tomato sauce that is topped with numerous cheeses such as Romano, cheddar, parmesan, and two different kinds of mozzarella.
The crown of this pretty large pizza is topped off with even more fresh mozzarella. Although it has a relatively high price, it’s certainly worth every cent. And, if you’re a cheese lover, this is the one for you!
Red Baron Classic Crust Pepperoni Pizza
When you first look at this pizza, it doesn’t take your breath away. In other words, it just seems like your regular frozen, thin crust pizza that probably won’t be all that tasty.
Luckily, that all changes once you take a bite into its tangy, fresh-tasting sauce and crispy, thick crust.
Topped off with flavorful pepperoni, you could easily mistake the Red Baron Classic Crust Pepperoni Pizza for a delivery kind. It’s THAT good!
Amy’s Cheese Pizza
It’s not just Amy’s, it can be yours too! Although this cheese pizza is somewhat on the smaller side, it makes up for it with a delicious, strong taste.
Its crust is wonderfully chewy and, combined with the rich tomato sauce, you have yourself a very satisfying and delightful pizza to enjoy.
Being a cheese pizza, you should expect the cheese to be of top quality and that is just what it is. Melted across the whole pie, every bite of this pizza is the best.
California Pizza Kitchen White Pizza
Next up is a pizza that sports a light and slightly tangy taste.
It actually has more of a flatbread style with a thin base that is easy to chew. A slight Alfredo sauce flavor makes this stand out from your basic white pizza. And, when you compare it to the majority of frozen pizzas out there, this will come out on top, most of the time.
Wegmans Bake & Rise Four Cheese Pizza
As soon as you place the pizza from Wegmans Bake & Rise in the oven, you will immediately notice how “bready” the crust is.
As you dive into its base and crust, it’s as if you’re biting into a breadstick. Therefore, it certainly fills your belly pretty quickly.
You may think that its combination of Parmesan, Romano, mozzarella, and asiago cheeses would be overwhelming but they blend very well together. Mixed with the light-tasting tomato sauce and you are left with a flavorful, distinctive pizza.
Its only drawback is the 24 minute cooking time which is one of the longest we experienced. So, if you’re in a rush for a slice of pizza, you may need to consider another option.
California Pizza Kitchen BBQ Chicken Pizza
The second entry on our list from California Pizza Kitchen is their enticing BBQ Chicken Pizza.
This pizza has everything that you would hope for in a chicken pizza. The chicken is juicy and the sauce is light and not too overwhelming. This equates to a very enjoyable pie!
If you’re a fan of thick crusts, though, this may not be the one for you. With such a thin crust, this BBQ chicken pizza resembles a flatbread more than an actual pizza.
So, if you want something that is a little doughier, you may need to look elsewhere. Otherwise, this is definitely one to try!
Tony’s Pepperoni Pizza
If Tony is feeling generous, he may let you share some of his pizza. And if he does, you will be pleasantly surprised.
While Tony’s may not be your idea of a gourmet pizza, it is actually extremely tasty.
Upon looking at the box and the frozen pizza inside, you will not have the highest expectations. However, the pepperoni toppings and cheese deliver a classic flavor. Everything you want from a traditional pepperoni pizza.
DiGiorno Original Rising Crust Four Cheese Pizza
All stand for a veritable legend in the world of frozen pizzas.
This Four Cheese Pizza from DiGiorno has a sweet tomato sauce, a pillowy dough that is a treat to bite into, and a tonne of gooey cheese that will welcome you back for more and more bites.
For a quick pizza fix, this is a great choice. While its flavors are a little weaker than our previous entries, when eaten hot out of the oven, you will not be disappointed with this classic frozen pizza brand.
Red Baron Brick Oven Crust Cheese Trio Pizza
With a sweet, zesty tomato sauce and an above-average thick crust, this Cheese Trio Pizza from Red Baron delivers an almighty chewing experience.
Its 100% real mozzarella, provolone, and parmesan cheese is a delight to chew into.
The crust has the perfect combination of crispiness and chewiness to take you into a land of pizza bliss. This golden-brown pizza is one for the whole family to enjoy.
Newman’s Own Thin & Crispy Supreme Pizza
When biting into Newman’s Own Thin & Crispy Supreme Pizza, you may forget that it’s of the frozen variety.
The vegetables and toppings on this taste extremely fresh, especially for a frozen pizza. Also, there is a certain spice that kicks in but is not too overwhelming.
It simply offers a little “buzz” to the overall flavor.
The only negative side of this pizza is its thin and crispy crust can be a bit weak. This means it usually crumbles on your plate making it very hard to cut into slices and enjoy by hand.
Freschetta Brick Oven Crust Roasted Mushroom and Spinach Pizza
Although this Roasted Mushroom and Spinach Pizza from Freschetta is not the most exciting you will come across, it is actually a pretty tasty pizza.
The mushrooms, in particular, are roasted giving them a unique but very pleasant flavor.
The cheese is light and not overbearing in any way while the inclusion of spinach is a very welcome touch of green. Something that many pizzas lack.
Unlike some of the pizzas above, this Freschetta pizza will not take your breath away but it is, beyond any doubt, a great option for vegetarian pizza lovers or those looking for a pinch of greenery on their pizza.
Barstool Sports One Bite Pizza
If you’re active on social media, you’ve probably seen Barstool Sports President Dave Portnoy and his one-bite pizza reviews.
This popular sports brand grew even more popular as Portnoy toured pizza places across the country, rating pizzas based on one bite. Now, you can buy Barstool’s own frozen One Bite Pizza.
Barstool Sports partnered with Happi Foodi to create the perfect frozen pizza, which launched in September 2021.
One Bite Pizza is currently available in four flavors: Five Cheese, Pepperoni, Supreme Pizza, and 3 Meat.
Upon trying his own frozen pizza creation, Portnoy gave it a rare 10/10. Try it yourself and share your rating in the comments!
Tombstone Original 5 Cheese Pizza
The second entry on our list from Tombstone, this pizza is very much like other cheese-only pizzas.
It does the job of filling your stomach but it just lacks any star quality.
When a pizza only has a cheese topping, it will always find it hard to compete with those laden with a selection of different vegetable and meat toppings.
But, for a cheese pizza, this is still a decent tasting option but the crust and dough could be improved upon.
Whole Foods 365 Thin Crust Pizza
Whole Foods has some impressive items from their in-house brand, Whole Foods 365.
Their pizza options are better than you might expect from a grocery store brand! Their thin crust pizza comes out thin and crisp.
Whole Foods Thin Crust pizza comes in four cheese, pepperoni, mediterranean, chicken & BBQ sauce, supreme style, and margarita.
They also have cauliflower crust frozen pizza if you have a gluten intolerance! Or, try their rising crust options if you like a thicker pizza crust.
What brand is best frozen pizza?
Some of the best frozen pizza brands are Tombstone, Red Baron, DiGiorno Pizza, and Newman’s Own. There are lots of great frozen pizza options depending on your taste preferences!
What is the best selling frozen pizza in America?
DiGiorno is the best-selling frozen pizza brand based on sales. Their famous slogan, “It’s not delivery, it’s DiGiorno” has certainly made a mark, and this brand outsells other frozen pizzas.
Is frozen pizza more unhealthy than delivery?
Frozen pizza is typically healthier than delivery pizza, but it really depends on where you’re getting your pizza from and the toppings used!
Delivery pizza is often greasier than frozen pizza, but frozen pizzas can also be full of cheese, processed meat toppings, and sugary sauces.
Frozen pizza is always a great alternative to ordering delivery or going out to eat. Sometimes you just want to kick back, relax, and throw a frozen pizza in the oven on nights where you don’t feel like leaving the house or cooking.
