  2. I put no stock in this list. So many great places left off. What’s more, the Barbeque Center in Lexington (of all places) and Little Richard’s in Winston Salem do not specialize in eastern style barbeque! Lexington style all the way!

  3. 90% of this list is Garbage and not NC Bbq joints. Lexington, and BBQ Center are the only two worthy of being on here. The rest if em are import Faux BBQ, Garys in China Grove NC, or R&R in Concord are better than the bulk of these fly by night barbecues.

  4. Flawed list. The Smoke Pit in Concord is better than any of the ones on the list that I have visited. I have eaten at least 8 of these restaurants.

  5. I enjoyed the article since I am a native Tar Heel and have eaten at many of the establishments on your list. Of course I have my favorites but, my hard fast rule is that it has to be cooked over some kind of wood charcoal. No matter what kind of rub or sauce you put on it, if it’s not cooked over charcoal, it’s just cooked pork! Unfortunately many eastern NC restaurants and most pig picking caterers now cook over gas or electric

    Please define Bar-B-Q before you put out a listing..I am a snob when it comes to this subject and there is whole hog, shoulders (butt) and then vinegar based and tomato based sauces and ribs, chicken, turkey, brisket and other sub groups that have their following. Not going to trash anyone’s opinion but if there are 14 better BBQ places in NC than PRIME I would be bankrupt as I am glad it is 40+ minutes there from my house
