A family-owned and run business and the very culmination of the American dream, Five Guys has been serving made-to-order, hand-formed juicy burgers since 1986.
While the Five Guys menu is popular enough, they also have a secret menu!
Owners Jerry and Janie Murrell and their five sons quickly expanded their operations from a beloved Washington DC burger joint to a national franchise with over 1700 locations nationwide.
Each location delivers the same Five Guys philosophy of fresh ground beef patties and scratch-made buns, peanut oil-fried French fries, and endless possibilities of customizable burgers, sandwiches, fry bowls, and soda combinations.
Five Guys asserts that there are hundreds of thousands of ingredient combinations available, and customers have come up with some tasty options that Five Guys has incorporated into their menu.
Five Guys Secret Menu
I’ve put together a list of Five Guys’ secret menu items that will become your new “menu hacks” whenever you head to the famous burger joint.
The following list of the best Five Guys secret menu items has a variety of sandwiches, burgers, and bowls that will make your classic American comfort food dreams come true.
A Patty Melt is perfect in its simplicity and has been a crowd-pleaser at diners and soda fountains for generations.
A classic patty melt consists of a burger patty smothered in melted Swiss cheese and topped caramelized onions on toasted rye bread.
Five Guys puts its twist on the original patty melt by subbing rye bread for white bread, Swiss cheese for American cheese, and allows customers to further customize it their liking with any veggie or sauce addition.
You begin by ordering a grilled cheese with a burger patty, adding grilled onions instead of caramelized onions, and the rest is up to you.
The Artery Annihilator
Five Guys serves the cream of the crop of American comfort food, so if you’re here to eat, you might as well go for the greasiest, cheesiest, most decadent creation you can imagine.
That’s where The Artery Annihilator comes into play.
The Artery Annihilator brings America’s two most beloved creations together, combining a burger and a hot dog into one sinfully delicious sandwich.
I’m not just talking about any burger, either. The Artery Annihilator is a bacon cheeseburger with a juicy beef frank on top along with the veggies and sauces of your choice. Go big or go home!
Double Grilled Cheeseburger
The double grilled cheeseburger is yet another match made in comfort food heaven. It marries a burger with two grilled cheese sandwiches.
Within your double grilled cheese sandwich buns lies a double meat patty and even more melted American cheese.
For some much-needed crunch, I’d add in some raw onions, lettuce, pickles, and jalapenos.
Since the classic pairing with grilled cheese is tomato soup, I’d also add tomatoes and a hearty dollop of ketchup.
The Presidential Burger
Five Guys originated in our nation’s capital, so it’s only fitting that they’d have a Presidential Burger.
While there have been numerous presidents during Five Guys’ more than 30-year tenure, this burger owes its invention to President Barak Obama.
As lore would have it, President Obama can’t resist a good burger, so of course, he called Five Guys to order a round for him and his staff.
His request was a cheeseburger with lettuce, tomatoes, jalapenos, and mustard.
Thus, The Presidential Burger was born. It’s simple, delicious, and good enough for a President to eat!
When you decide to dine at Five Guys, the word “diet” doesn’t quite come to mind.
Burgers, hot dogs, fries, and milkshakes are some of the highest calorie foods out there, and you’ve come to indulge. Still, you can adhere to some dietary restrictions.
For instance, Five Guys can accommodate gluten-free or keto-friendly diets by omitting the buns.
The Burger Bowl turns your handheld meal into a luxuriously meaty salad.
All you have to do is order a double bacon cheeseburger without the bun, and Five Guys chefs will place two hand-ground patties, crispy bacon, grilled onions, pickles, green peppers, mustard, and mayo in a to-go receptacle.
If you want it to be more like a salad, add double lettuce, onions, and tomatoes.
Well Done Fries
One of the things I love most about Five Guys is their generous portion sizes.
When it comes to French fries, they give you over double the amount of other fast-food fry competitors.
If you’re a stickler for crispiness, there’s nothing worse than a pile of soggy, droopy French fries.
Consequently, the key to getting the crispiest fries at Five Guys is to order your fries “well done.”
By ordering well-done fries, your fry guy will let those spuds stay in that sizzling peanut oil a few minutes longer. It’ll be worth the wait!
If you’re feeling nostalgic for your favorite childhood sandwich that usually ends up all over your face, hands, and freshly washed clothes, order a sloppy joe at Five Guys. You’ll get the same taste without the mess.
The classic sloppy joe consists of ground beef mixed with a heaping portion of tomato sauce held together precariously by burger buns that soon melt into a gooey mess.
At Five Guys, you recreate the sloppy joe by compartmentalizing its main ingredients.
To order a sloppy joe, ask for a regular burger piled high with grilled onions, peppers, ketchup, and barbecue sauce.
The sweetness of the onions and ketchup mixed with the tang of barbecue sauce and the flavor of the green peppers will certainly channel your inner child.
Breaking Windy City Dog
From the culinary machinations of Food Network star Justin Warner, the Breaking Windy City Dog is a Cajun-inspired, loaded Chicago-style hot dog.
Five Guys uses all-beef, Kosher franks from Hebrew National that they split open and fry on a griddle to get that extra crispy “snap.”
The Breaking Windy City Dog places a split frank on a freshly baked bun, piled high with pickles, tomatoes, relish, green peppers, and mustard then dusts it with Cajun seasoning and a drizzle of hot sauce.
In this case, the “hot” in hot dog has a double meaning, referring to the temperature of your frank and the tongue searing spiciness of two fiery toppings.
You might want to order a cold, creamy milkshake to cool you down!
While you might associate Steak Frites with a snazzy French bistro, the dish is as simple and pedestrian as they come.
Steak Frites means “steak fries,” and involves frying any cut of simply seasoned beef in a bath of butter, then serving it with a side of fried potatoes.
When you think of it that way, Five Guys can create a plate of steak frites on par with any brasserie you might find in Paris.
You can create steak frites at Five Guys by ordering a basket of fries with a burger patty that you can season yourself with salt and pepper.
Drizzle on as much barbecue or A1 steak sauce as you want to complete the dish!
