7 Delicious Grapefruit Beers To Drink

If you like a citrus-infused beer, try these grapefruit flavored brews.

People drink beer for many reasons: when they’re happy, celebrating an accomplishment, going out to dance, or just relaxing.

And although everyone has their preferences regarding how hoppy, heavy, fruity, or light their beer should be, there’s one flavor that seems universally enjoyed: grapefruit.

Grapefruit beer is especially lovely to drink on a nice, warm spring or summer afternoon because of its light and refreshing nature. That’s why I’ve compiled a brief list of the best grapefruit beers.

So regardless of your preferred beer type — whether you prefer a light Radler, a heavy IPA, or something in between — there is a tasty grapefruit beer for you.

Ballast Point Grapefruit Sculpin

The Ballast Point Grapefruit Sculpin beer is an award-winning IPA with a delightful level of hops while maintaining a light and refreshing feel, perfect for summertime afternoons or evenings.

IPAs are great on their own, but they become even more flavorful and enjoyable when they have a tangy, citrus touch.

The grapefruit in this beer doesn’t make it too sweet but complements the hops perfectly.

But be careful — with 7% alcohol, this isn’t the type of beer you want to drink too quickly or too much in one sitting. I love sipping it slowly, which helps me enjoy the taste anyway!

Stiegl Grapefruit Radler

A Radler is a beer that’s mixed with fruit juice, similar to a shandy, and the Stiegl Grapefruit Radler is one of the best I’ve ever had.

It’s made with real grapefruit juice, and you can taste it. I appreciate that it’s made with 100% natural ingredients, including water, barley malt, hops, yeast, multi-fruit soda, and natural grapefruit juice.

It also has no artificial sweeteners or coloring.

The grapefruit juice’s sweetness helps offset the bitterness of the beer, making for a well-rounded and flavorful drink.

At 2.0% alcohol, it’s also a very light beer, perfect for days when you want to enjoy the taste of beer without becoming too full or feeling too buzzed too quickly.

Grapefruit Sculpin Summer IPA

This seasonal beer is an excellent IPA in which the grapefruit complements the hops swimmingly.

It turns an otherwise heavy IPA into an easy drinking ale that’s ready for the summer.

I love drinking this beer at summertime barbecues, birthdays, festivals, and other outside events.

However, I love drinking it alongside food if I’m in the mood to have it at more sit-down events.

It pairs perfectly with cheeses like mozzarella and feta because the grapefruit cuts through the rich, salty flavors of the cheese.

In other words, forget pairing the cheese on your charcuterie board with a fruit jam, and just drink this Grapefruit Summer IPA instead!

Schlafly Grapefruit IPA

This Schlafly beer is a bit more bitter than some of the other grapefruit beers on this list.

It contains a grapefruit puree with fermented sugar mixed with various hops, including American Chinook, Cascade, and Citra, that give it a citrus and floral kick.

It’s still refreshing, but the grapefruit is more of an aftertaste than a primary flavor. If you’re looking for something more IPA than grapefruit, this beer is for you.

It’s perfect for summer days spent outside, whether you’re hiking, biking, swimming, or just lounging in the sun.

However, it’s also great for indoor events like game nights or dinner parties. Since it’s a bit heavier, I don’t like to drink it at dinner. I’ll either drink it with light bites or after a meal.

Shiner Ruby Redbird

A grapefruit beer I love eating with meals is the Shiner Ruby Redbird. Shiner sources the grapefruit for this beer directly from the Rio Grande Valley in Texas.

This light, bright beer has only 95 calories inside, so you don’t feel overly full or heavy, even if you drink it with dinner or lunch.

I also love that they add a slight ginger flavor to the mix, which creates a dynamic flavor profile with the citrusy grapefruit that is so lovely on the tongue.

Although people tend to enjoy this beer the most during the summer or spring months, I personally enjoy it any time of the year. I think the ginger flavor makes it the perfect fall and winter beer as well.

Schöfferhofer Grapefruit

If you can’t decide whether you prefer the beer flavor over the grapefruit flavor or vice versa, why not try a beer that promises a 50/50 split?

The Schöfferhofer Grapefruit is the world’s first Hefeweizen grapefruit beer, and it’s a perfect marriage of the two flavors.

The beer is light and effervescent, with just the right amount of sweetness from the grapefruit.

It’s perfect for days when you want to enjoy a beer but don’t want the heavy feelings that come along with it.

Because it’s quite light, zesty, and carbonated, it’s also a great beer to include in cocktails. My favorite is a ginger stinger.

Great Divide Roadie Grapefruit Radler

The Great Divide Brewing Company presumably named this grapefruit beer the Roadie Grapefruit Radler because it’s perfect for bringing along with you on adventures.

It’s one of the best grapefruit beers for after a hiking or cycling trip because of how revitalizing it is.

I love the tart grapefruit flavor that makes my mouth pucker a little bit, and it’s perfect for enjoying on hot days.

However, you surely don’t have to be a sports enthusiast to like this beer. Just crack it open at a beer garden with your friends and enjoy!

Final Thoughts

Grapefruit beers are the perfect summertime beverage. They’re refreshing, flavorful, and easy to drink.

But they’re also excellent year-round, especially when they incorporate additional flavors like ginger or if it’s a super light beer that you can use to make seasonal cocktails.

There are different types of grapefruit beers, some with more or fewer hops, alcohol content, or grapefruit flavor. But the best grapefruit beers taste exceptional, and don’t overdo it with the grapefruit; with any of them, you’ll still get to enjoy the excellent taste of beer!

So, if you’re looking for the best grapefruit beer for you, try one of these options the next time you’re at a bar, brewery, or store. You won’t be disappointed.
