Our Favorite Chick-Fil-A Breakfast Food to Order

The top items for a quick Chick-Fil-A breakfast on the go.

I can be a picky eater. Not in the sense that I am unwilling to try new things, but rather that I go through phases where I’m only interested in three or four items for a few months at a time. There was the “french fries, ice cream, and cucumbers” phase of 2019, the “sushi bowl, ramen, and chicken alfredo” phase of early 2020, and countless other questionable combinations that even I could not explain.

Yet, through all of that, the Chick-Fil-A breakfast menu has never been replaced. In my memory, there has not been a single instance when someone said, “Hey, I’m grabbing breakfast from Chick-Fil-A,” that my answer was, “Nah, I’m good.”

Because of this nutritional adventure I have been undertaking my entire life, I consider myself a bit of an aficionado and one that is highly qualified to let you in on the best Chick-Fil-A breakfast options. I always knew that someday, my genius would come in handy, and here is the culmination of my life’s work.

Best Chick-Fil-A Breakfast Options

  1. Chick-n-Minis
  2. Bacon, Egg & Cheese Muffin
  3. Hash Browns
  4. Chicken Biscuit
  5. Parfait
  6. Sausage, Egg, & Cheese on a Biscuit
  7. Breakfast Fillet (Grilled, Fried)
  8. Egg White Grill
  9. Buttered Biscuit
  10. Fruit Cup

Chick-n-Minis

Before we talk about how absurdly delicious Chick-n-Minis are, we need to address the sheer envy I feel directed towards a literal chicken nugget.

Let me paint you a picture. It’s 6:30 in the morning. Bleary-eyed and exhausted, you follow the siren call of the Chick-Fil-A sign. Chick-n-Minis and a coffee, as usual. You pop open that box, and there they are, mocking you, tucked into a pillowy soft bread. Those tasty little tidbits of white meat chicken get to hang out in a bread bed while you sit there, missing your own bed. It’s cruel. But seriously, Chick-n-Minis are so good. The honey butter glazed yeast rolls are a heaven-sent complement to those savory, salty little nugs.

Bacon, Egg & Cheese Muffin

The English muffin breakfast sandwich is a fast food staple, but that doesn’t mean every early morning drive-thru option puts the same TLC into their wares.

At first glance, the Chick-Fil-A Bacon, Egg, & Cheese Muffin is pretty standard. You get the same ol’ cornmeal-dusted muffin, American cheese slice, and unnerving origami-folded egg. Where the famous chicken restaurant truly sets itself apart, though, is the Applewood bacon.

Unlike other breakfast places– who are willing to slap some bacon thin enough that you can see through it– Chick-Fil-A does the world a tremendous favor by investing in thick-cut, fatty pieces of smoky pork goodness.

Hash Browns

I’m the first one to admit that if Chick-Fil-A served waffle fries on their breakfast menu, I’d never waste my time on such a comparatively pitiful use of the potato the likes of a hash brown.

Alas, sometimes dreams are just dreams, and compromise is necessary. Because waffle fries aren’t an option, the nickel-shaped Hash Browns are pretty tasty. They tick all the boxes of having a crunchy exterior fried to a delightful golden brown, steamy soft interior of soft potato and just enough salt to keep you sipping on that sweet, sweet lemonade.

If you want to crank the flavor up, though, I recommend sending those tasty discs on a dive into some Polynesian sauce.

Chicken Biscuit

Chick-Fil-A knows what it does best, and what it does best is chicken. That’s why their simple Chicken Biscuit stands out as an excellent choice for the most important meal of the day.  In most cases, chicken biscuits are so-so. Order one, and you’ll unwrap a foil package concealing a deceptively under-seasoned chicken breast filet on a biscuit that they did not bake with a single teaspoon of love.

Chick-Fil-A turns that standard on its head, snuggling a thoroughly seasoned, meticulously marinated thick chicken breast into a buttermilk biscuit with passion in every flaky layer. Drizzle a little honey on this sumptuous treat for a glimpse at good food nirvana.

Parfait

When options like Chick-n-Minis exist, why would anyone choose a Yogurt Parfait? Because the Chick-Fil-A breakfast menu goes where other run-of-the-mill fast food joints aren’t brave enough to tread, that’s why. Let’s start with the foundation: creamy, rich Greek yogurt studded with flecks of vanilla bean. As a seasoned home baker, I know that there’s something special about skipping out on the more economical extract and taking the time to scrape seeds from a pod. The fact that a fast food restaurant uses yogurt of that caliber sets them apart.

Of course, no one’s passing over a Chicken Biscuit for some Greek yogurt, but the Parfait is so much more than that. The treat topped with ruby red strawberries, plump blueberries, and your choice of honeyed cranberry granola or Oreo cookie crumbles is dreamy.

Sausage, Egg, & Cheese on a Biscuit

Ah, Buttermilk Biscuit, we meet again! The Sausage, Egg, & Cheese Biscuit could rest on its bread-based laurels, but Chick-Fil-A is never one to call “good enough” good enough. Again, the standard egg and American cheese isn’t something I actively crave when my incredibly bossy stomach demands our standby breakfast spot. It’s standard fare.

What’s truly special, though, is that thick sausage patty streaked with a perfect fat to lean ratio to let just a little flavor soak into the Biscuit but without grease dripping onto the side of my hand while I try desperately to warp space-time to be somehow not late to work.

Breakfast Fillet (Grilled, Fried)

Have you ever just eaten a piece of Chick-Fil-A chicken? I don’t mean a nugget. I mean an actual sandwich filet. For most people, the answer is no. With such soft, buttery bread to enjoy, most people wouldn’t even consider it an option. Plus, aren’t Nuggets just a smaller format of the Filet?

Here’s the deal: It is juicier and more flavorful—Chicken Nuggets dream of becoming Filets when they grow up. Even the grilled option, which loses the benefit of golden fried breading, is incredible. So while I would never choose the Breakfast Filet regularly, it is a solid option when I just want to remind myself that things don’t have to be complicated to be delicious.

Egg White Grill

No one pulls up to their friendly neighborhood Chick-Fil-A looking for a calorie-conscious solution to sate their hunger, but they gave it to us anyway. This is a unique little sandwich, given some extra attention in the form of a citrusy marinade on the grilled Filet to compensate for the lack of breading.

They also swap out the whole egg scramble for an egg whites only alternative, knocking out around 75% of the calories in that ingredient alone. So if you’re chasing health goals but don’t want to give up your Chick-Fil-A obsession, give the Egg White Grill with a Fruit Cup a chance.

Buttered Biscuit

Remember when I waxed poetic about the passion evident in every layer of the Chick-Fil-A Buttermilk Biscuit? Or when I drifted into a romantic reverie of the Sausage, Egg, and Cheese Biscuit? I meant it.

At least once in your fast food journey, everyone should sample the tender, crumbly Biscuit in all of its glory, sans chicken, cheese, or other unnecessary toppings. While you could get it plain, the lightly buttered version is clearly superior. Keep in mind that a single biscuit will most likely not scratch that “hearty breakfast” itch, so snag a couple of them and enjoy a second round of the melt-in-your-mouth yumminess.

Fruit Cup

Admittedly, I only really consider the Fruit Cup in place of Hash Browns in the first couple of months of the year, when I’m dedicated to following through on my perpetual New Year’s resolution to eat more nutritious foods.

But, like a faithful old friend, it’s always there, offering a mere 60 calories of fresh fruit that helps me feel better about the fact that the Chick-Fil-A employees have added my name to the end of every “My pleasure!” because I’m here so often. But, like the entirety of the Chick-Fil-A breakfast menu, the restaurant isn’t happy with serving your everyday fruit medley.

Instead of the classic and tired cantaloupe-honeydew-red grape trio, they mix things up with juicy strawberries, ripe blueberries, sugary sweet mandarin oranges, tart Granny Smith apples, and crisp Red Delicious apples. Very fancy.

Final Thoughts
