Jay Jerrier, the founder and chef at Cane Rosso, traveled to Italy about 25 years ago, and the idea for a pizzeria was born. Jerrier built a wood-burning oven in his backyard and studied at the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana to learn the ins and outs of making Neapolitan-style pizza. Black Cat Pizza originated as a late-night pop-up inside of a local bakery. Chef and Owner Jaime Fernandez is hugely creative with his toppings and strives to offer the community a unique pizza experience. Now in its own building, Black Cat Pizza’s menu and fanbase have expanded.

In 1904, the owner’s great-grandparents immigrated from Sicily to New Orleans, and little did they know, but that move paved the way for Campisi’s Restaurant. Research has shown that in 1946, the Campisi’s opened the very first pizzeria in Texas because a cousin from New York told his family how well “pizza pies” sold in the city.
