Where to Eat in Pike Place Market

If you’ve ever been to Seattle, and even if you haven’t, you’ve probably heard of Pike Place Market. This large-scale city market first opened in 1907 and has since become a popular place for locals to purchase fresh produce and goods and for visitors to shop for souvenirs.

Pike Place Market has everything from fresh flowers to fresh fish and produces to handmade goods from local vendors. In addition to all these vendors, the market has some fantastic restaurants that you need to try.

The Pink Door

The Pink Door is an Italian restaurant on Post Alley, only steps away from the first-ever Starbucks.

When you walk inside, you’ll descend a flight of stairs into the main dining room that’s filled with beautiful lighting, a wood bar, and some of the friendliest staff. The atmosphere is slightly refined but not pretentious.

Italian cuisine is the star of the show at The Pink Door. They blend Italian cuisine with some American to create a unique restaurant.

Some popular dishes here include their potato gnocchi, the fish of the day, and the braised lamb shank. I opted for their sausage risotto which was to die for.

Le Panier

You’ll find Le Panier on Pike Place. It sits across Stewarts Street from Beecher’s Cheese. You’ll immediately smell the fresh bread and desserts when you walk in.

The spot is relatively humble, and you’ll want to take whatever you order to go. The space is super casual, and the staff is ready to help you find something you’ll love.

Le Panier is a French-style bakery specializing in macaroons, loaves of bread, and other desserts. Locals love getting fresh bread from here to take home, and who doesn’t love something sweet?

Some of my favorite things at Le Panier are their chocolate croissants, coffee and passionfruit macarons, and the pistachio eclairs.

The Crumpet Shop

The Crumpet Shop is nestled between Pike Place and 1st Avenue. This restaurant has been owned and operated by the same family since opening in 1976.

The spot looks like a coffee shop and features small outdoor tables for patrons when the weather’s nice.

As the name may suggest, the main thing on the menu here are crumpets. A crumpet is an English griddle cake that somewhat resembles an English muffin.

Their menu features teas, coffees, crumpets, and other breakfast options. My favorite crumpet comes with pesto and ham. They also have sweet ones with Nutella, lemon, and other fruits.

If you want some of the best seafood and chowder Seattle has to offer, you need to head to Post Alley and look for Pike Place Chowder.

The atmosphere is lively at this counter-service restaurant, and several tables outside to sit at. Even after peak lunch and dinner time, there are often crowds because the food is that good.

Pike Place Chowder serves local seafood and a variety of chowder flavors. They have eight delicious chowders and crab, shrimp, and lobster rolls.

If you’re like me and find it hard to choose one thing, their chowder sampler is perfect. You can select four or eight. I loved the New England clam chowder, smoked salmon, seared scallop, and lime coconut.

You’ll find Piroshky Piroshky on Pike Place, next to Le Panier and Starbucks. Piroshky Piroshky is a Russian bakery that opened in 1992 with the hopes of blending traditional Russian flavors with those of the Pacific Northwest. It’s a counter-service bakery where you can see almost all your options before ordering.

Piroshky Piroshky serves over 20 flavors of piroshki for you to try. They have savory and sweet options. They also come out with seasonal options for you to try.

Some delicious options include their impossible beef and onion vegan option, the potato and cheese, and the chocolate cream hazelnut. You can’t go wrong with any flavor.

Beecher’s Handmade Cheese

1600 Pike Pl, Seattle, WA 98101
Phone: 206-956-1964

Beecher’s Handmade Cheese is on Pike Place, next to Joe Chocolate Co. Beecher’s is a staple in Seattle because all of their cheese is handmade in this restaurant in Pike Place.

When you walk inside, you can see blocks of cheese for sale and even a glimpse into where the cheesemakers are hard at work. Oh, and the free samples are wonderful.

You can get more than just blocks of delicious cheese at Beecher’s, though. They have comfort foods that are wonderful to eat while walking around the rest of the market.

They sell tomato soup, a small selection of sandwiches, and mac and cheese. The two best things on the menu, in my opinion, are their grilled cheese and mac and cheese.

Matt’s in the Market is on Pike Street, but you’ll need to go upstairs to reach the front door. It has a chic industrial atmosphere with high ceilings, long dangling lights, and large windows offering views of the water.

It’s a relatively casual restaurant that’s perfect for dinner or when you need a break from walking around the city.

The menu at Matt’s features local seafood and other classic American dishes. They have several small plates and salads to start your meal off and an extensive wine list worth looking into. Popular dishes at Matt’s are their seafood stew, the NY strip sirloin, and roast chicken.

It’s casual humble, and they offer outdoor seating where you can enjoy your meal when it’s not raining.

Market Grill’s menu features a variety of fresh seafood. You can order sandwiches, seafood platters, and soups. You have to get their “world-famous” blackened salmon sandwich if you want a sandwich.

It’s pretty delicious. Their platters come with rice, onions, tomato, and other toppings. Whatever you get, their garlic bread is fantastic on the side.

Ellenos serves Greek yogurt infused with a variety of different flavors. They have something for everyone. They have dessert flavors and fruity ones that hit the spot, especially on a warm day.

My favorite flavors are brownie batter, key lime pie, passion fruit, and vanilla beans. You can’t go wrong with any option.

Pasta Casalinga

Pasta Casalinga is on Pike Street near the famous Gum Wall. This intimate pasta shop is the perfect quiet escape from the bustling market.

There are wood accents throughout the space, wooden rolling pins hanging from the ceiling, and menu items written on chalkboards throughout. It’s a casual Italian spot, but the food looks and tastes upscale.

People love the pasta at Pasta Casalinga because they make all their pasta noodles in-house daily.

Their menu changes with the seasons, but some popular plates of pasta include their Pomodoro, lasagna Casalinga, and the ziti with rockfish, olives, and capers.

Three Girls Bakery’s front entrance is inside the market on Pike Place. This bakery has been open since 1912 and is one of the best bakeries in the area.

There’s often a line out the door, but they tend to serve everyone quickly. It’s a casual bakery with glass cases for you to see everything they’re offering.

The bakery offers both sweet and savory pastries for you to enjoy. Their savory options feature spinach and feta croissants, ham and swiss, and more.

I love the cream cheese danish, their raspberry scones, and their classic chocolate chip cookies for those with a sweet tooth.

It’s a shop selling Italian wine, cheese, and other ingredients, but they also have delicious small bites. It’s a casual space with minimal seating.

DeLaurenti’s cafe menu is minimal but definitely worth trying if you’re visiting Pike Place Market. They offer a handful of sandwiches, cookies, and potato chips.

Their sandwich options are grinder, parma, and tacchino. All are made with cured Italian meats and special cheese. You can’t go wrong with any of the three.

If you’re looking for the best sushi in Pike Place Market, you need to head to Pine Street. Sushi Kashiba is an upscale sushi joint serving only the freshest sushi and other food.

The restaurant is minimalistic with wood and black features throughout, and you can watch the sushi chefs preparing your rolls.

Sushi Kashiba serves sushi, cold appetizers, hot a la carte options, and their special course dinners.

Their course dinners are wonderful because you get 13 pieces of nigiri sushi, an appetizer, side salad, miso soup, and traditional egg finale. The sashimi tuna poke is something you have to try.

Zig Zag Cafe

1501 Western Ave Ste 202, Seattle, WA 98101
Phone: 206-625-1146

You’ll find Zig Zag Cafe on Western Avenue in Pike Place Market. This chic bar is hidden by a staircase but worth going to if you feel like looking a little bit for it.

The restaurant and bar feature dim, almost red lighting and an intimate setting where you can enjoy a nice meal and drink.

Zig Zag Cafe is known for its handcrafted cocktails, small bar bites, and a handful of larger entrees. The cuisine is a mixture of classic American, Italian, and refined options.

Their raw oysters and cheese balls are tasty small plates, but if you’re looking for something more filling, the prawns and grits are delicious.

Mee Sum Pastry is the perfect, no-frills joint if you’re craving Chinese classic pastries and dishes. It’s a counter-service spot that is fast, delicious, and the staff is exceptional.

They don’t offer tables, but there are several tables and benches nearby to enjoy your food. You’ll find them right on Pike Place next to the market entrance and near the corner of Pike Place and Pine Street.

The pastry counter is the first thing you’ll see when you walk up to Mee Sum Pastry, but they also offer classic Chinese plates.

They have their menu separated by protein option, making it easy to decide what to order. Honey sesame chicken and baked seafood with rice are some of my favorites.
