Where to Get Vegan Food in San Antonio

I know how hard it can be to find plant-based food options when visiting a new city. Even if you’ve lived in an area for years, finding vegan food near you can be quite a challenge. On my most recent trip to San Antonio, I made it my mission to find the best vegan-friendly and vegan restaurants in the San Antonio Area.

While San Antonio may be most known for its Tex-Mex, the vegan restaurant scene is booming. Keeping up with trends, and more people looking for healthier food options, it’s a smart move for restaurants to include vegan, vegetarian, and plant-based options for patrons.

With more and more people following vegetarian and vegan lifestyles, the restaurant industry has made it possible to get delicious vegan options that don’t compromise on flavor and texture. Whether you follow a plant-based diet or not, the restaurants on this list won’t disappoint.

Viva Vegeria

On my search for the best vegan restaurants in San Antonio, I came across Viva Vegeria. This place blew me away! The restaurant’s goal is to “feed the masses”, all while educating the city on issues like “cultural preservation through food, healthy eating, urban gardening” and more. Check out their website for more on their mission. If you end up dining at Viva Vegeria I would recommend trying the Chick’n Flautas (pictured above). The dish consists of deep fried tortillas, filled with Chick’n and drizzled with a chipotle sauce. Each entree also comes with a side of rice, salad and charro beans.

This spot has two locations in the San Antonio area, the Alamo Quarry Market location and Green at Alon. I stopped by the Alamo Quarry location for lunch while on my visit to San Antonio. Looking for a quick vegan bite to eat, this was the perfect spot. This restaurant opened its doors in 2007 and offers non-vegan options as well. If you’re with a group, this would be a great spot for people with different dietary needs and preferences. The weekly special when I stopped by caught my eye, a plant-based Poboy Sandwich. Be sure to stop by to check out their weekly specials.

Senor Veggie specializes in local, handcrafted vegan cuisine. Located in Southtown on Presa St, you can’t miss the bright orange building with a mural on the front. On my visit, I tried a few different meals with my group of friends. We split the Cheeze con Macaroni; steamed broccoli, cashew cheese sauce, and almond parmesan. It was immaculate, *chefs kiss* delicious. For my main, I chose a sandwich, the Buffalo Tofu; crispy tofu, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and peppercorn ranch. They have many options including vegan pizzas, tacos, and more.

I stopped by Pharm Table for dinner one night, it’s definitely a little more upscale than other restaurants I visited. Would be perfect for a date night or a nice place to take family and friends. Looking for a quick bite in San Antonio? You need to check out Blissful Burgers. This burger joint serves up amazing vegan burgers. My friends and I all got a different burger and split them, that way we got to sample each variety. Out of the three options, I would say The Bhilly was my favorite; two thin Beyond Burgers, vegan provolone cheese, grilled mushrooms, grilled onions, and grilled red bell peppers. I may be biased though, with my Philly roots. If you’re looking for something a little more basic, The Classic was just as great.

Located in an unassuming strip-mall, don’t be fooled by the location. Thai Vegan is serving up some of the best Thai food in the area. I had a chance to try the Pad Thai with tofu and will be coming back here on my next trip to The Alamo City.
