Nestled in between the towering Santa Ynez Mountains and the wide-open Pacific Ocean is the gorgeous city of Santa Barbara.
This wonderful coastal area of California is one of the most popular places to visit in the state.
What makes this city particularly special is the atmosphere of Spanish colonial heritage that’s made evident in the spectacular architecture and art all around the area.
It’s an upbeat and lively environment which makes it perfect for celebration, especially if you’re looking to host a private dinner event at a restaurant.
Milestones like graduations, anniversaries, and weddings only come around so often, so why not make them unforgettable by booking a private room at a restaurant that’s sure to impress your guests.

If you’re in Santa Barbara and you’ve got a special event or occasion coming up that you want to celebrate, you’re going to want to head to any one of these restaurants I’ve ranked down below for a truly memorable time.
9 W Victoria St, Santa Barbara, CA 93101
Taking the number-one spot on my list is bouchon Santa Barbara, and this should come as absolutely no surprise for anyone familiar with this establishment and its private dining room.
When it comes to special events here at bouchon, you have two options: you can rent out the Cork Room for 10 to 20 guests, or you can buy out the entire restaurant, bringing the max guest capacity to 80.
The Cork Room here at bouchon is perfect for an intimate business meeting or a graduation dinner, but the restaurant buyout option is ideal for a large wedding reception.
31 W Carrillo St, Santa Barbara, CA 93101
Right inside the Kimpton Canary Hotel off of West Carrillo Street is another one of Santa Barbara’s best private dining rooms located at none other than Finch & Fork.
You may recognize this place from our list of places to eat around Santa Barbara, but this time it’s all about private dining.
For private dining, you have the option to reserve the Chapala Room which comfortably seats up to 30 guests, or you can rent the rooftop of the Kimpton Canary Hotel for a scenic view of the city. Of course, there are also the options of a full or partial buyout of the restaurant.
8 E Cota St, Santa Barbara, CA 93101
Right around the corner from El Presidio de Santa Bárbara State Historic Park and the Santa Barbara Historical Museum off of East Cota Street is The Palace Grill and they have another one of the nicest private dining rooms in Santa Barbara.
The Palace Grill is fully prepared to host your next wedding, rehearsal, work party, business meeting, group dinner, or any other important event coming up in your life.
They will even carefully tailor the menu to your unique needs. The staff here at The Palace Grill are ready to make sure everything goes perfectly.
1311 State St, Santa Barbara, CA 93101
The next place I want to mention with regards to their amazing private dining capabilities is a Californian restaurant called Jane.
You can find this place off of State Street next to The Arlington Theatre (Metropolitan Theatres) and right across the street from the Statue of Juana Maria and Child.
When it comes to private dining, Jane has everything you need to make your special occasion unforgettable.
You can host a private party of up to 40 guests here at Jane, so if you’ve got a moderate-sized wedding rehearsal dinner or cocktail party, this is a great place to book.
3313 State St, Santa Barbara, CA 93105
Up next is a place called Harry’s Plaza Cafe and it’s located right inside of the Loreto Plaza next to Gelson’s grocery store.
Harry’s is an American restaurant that never disappoints when it comes to classic comfort food in a cozy setting.
Harry’s Ranchero Room is the name of their private dining space that you can rent out to host a party of up to 80 guests, so there’s no shortage of space at this restaurant.
If you’ve got a large wedding party or a huge graduation celebration, this is the place for you to reserve.
3888 State St, Santa Barbara, CA 93105
Chuck’s of Hawaii has been open since 1967, so you know they’re doing something right. This steakhouse is absolutely guaranteed to impress everyone on your guest list the next time you decide to host a private party here.
Chuck’s of Hawaii is where I would book a reservation for a private dinner for a corporate meeting or business dinner because of the sophisticated atmosphere and the high-quality steaks. Both of these will make a lasting impression on your dinner guests.
Check out Chuck’s of Hawaii off of State Street, right across the street from La Cumbre Plaza shopping mall and the Five Points Shopping Center.
813 Anacapa St, Santa Barbara, CA 93101
Just up the road from the Paseo Nuevo shopping mall is El Paseo Restaurant and I strongly suggest checking this place out the next time you’re looking for places to host a private party in Santa Barbara.
The max capacity of El Paseo restaurant is 275 guests, so this is the place to go for all your biggest events where you’re inviting the greatest number of people. You can’t go wrong having your wedding reception or birthday party here.
The staff at El Paseo are experts in creating a perfect atmosphere for celebration and are willing to cater to your every need.
11 W Victoria St Ste. 17, Santa Barbara, CA 93101
Olio e Limone is an Italian restaurant with one of the coziest and classiest private dining rooms in Santa Barbara in my opinion.
The Cucina Room here at Olio e Limone Ristorante is an immaculate space for group dining of up to 40 guests where you’ll be surrounded by bottles of wine, secluded from the rest of the establishment.
I highly recommend the Cucina Room for your next small gathering because it’s the perfect amount of space where it’s big enough to seat everyone comfortably, yet intimate enough to where you can still interact with all of your guests.
202 State St, Santa Barbara, CA 93101
Up next, I’d like to point you in the direction of Loquita Santa Barbara for all your private dining needs.
This Spanish tapas restaurant is ready and willing to bend over backwards to make sure you and all your guests feel at home for the entire duration of your special event.
Loquita offers a private patio buyout that seats 40 guests, a full patio buyout capable of seating 75, or the full restaurant buyout for up to 115 seated guests or 175 for a standing cocktail party.
In my opinion, the private patio is the way to go for your next business meeting or anniversary party.
50 Los Patos Way, Santa Barbara, CA 93108
Right off of Highway 101 near the Andree Clark Bird Refuge is a cozy, romantic French restaurant called Stella Mare’s that offers 6 different private dining rooms of varying sizes and accommodations that will make your next special occasion absolutely incredible.
Among the choices of venues is The Greenhouse which is probably my preferred space for a dinner party of up to 30 because of the outdoor terrace that’s attached and the casual vibe.
That’s only one of the private rooms here at Stella Mare’s and the others are just as phenomenal, if not moreso.
1325 State St, Santa Barbara, CA 93101
Last, but not least, is Opal, an American restaurant with multiple options for dividing up the restaurant into private venues.
Each side of the restaurant can be sectioned off for private events, with one side holding up to 55 guests and the other side seating up to 75. For a full buyout, you can host up to 125 guests here at Opal for an unbelievably memorable night.
Opal is absolutely ideal for corporate functions, birthdays, wedding rehearsal dinners or wedding celebrations, weekly luncheons, and private parties with all of your friends and family, so be sure to book them next time you’ve got big plans coming up!
The only thing that’s better than going out to eat in Santa Barbara is dining privately with all of your close friends and family, or maybe you’ve got an important client you want to impress with an elegant business dinner.
Either way, you’ll find the absolute perfect private dining restaurant when you follow this guide, so go ahead and make your reservations!
