Bordered by the beautiful Blue Mountains to the north and surrounded by fertile green valleys, Harrisburg is a historic and bucolic city on the banks of the Susquehanna River.

It’s also the state capital of Pennsylvania. Its green scenery and historical significance in American history bestow a wealth of attractions for visitors.
Harrisburg may be a small city compared to Pittsburg and Philadelphia, but it still has a diverse restaurant scene.
Pennsylvania’s key political figures and government officials delight in business lunches and high-class dinners from a variety of different global cuisines.
One beloved culinary tradition abundantly represented here is sushi. I found the best sushi in Harrisburg and compiled the following list of my favorite sushi bars and Japanese eateries.
Fuji Do Japanese Market
1701 Paxton St, Harrisburg, PA 17104
Phone: 717-232-1437
Fuji DO Japanese Market is a casual, cheap, no-frills sushi bar with dinner service only. Located in South Harrisburg, Fuji Do has a simple yet thorough menu of all the classic sushi and sashimi dishes using high-quality fish.
They have a selection of imported Japanese beers like Sapporo and Troeggs to accompany unbeatable sushi roll specials.
My favorite specialty roll is the Boston Roll which consists of smoked salmon, avocado, and sushi rice enveloped in nori.

Tokyo Diner is a Progress neighborhood favorite for authentic and modern takes on Japanese food in a cozy, casual atmosphere.
They have a bustling take-out service with fast and friendly staff. Their extensive menu includes sashimi, sushi, hot and cold plates, tempura, and more.
They even have mochi ice cream and tempura cheesecake for dessert. I was impressed by the chef’s unique roll selection, each roll containing numerous ingredients in a beautifully colorful presentation.
I went for the most decadent Sweet Heart Roll with lobster tail tempura and spicy tuna in soy paper, topped with scallops, roe, flack tempura, and sweet sauce drizzle.
Miso Sushi & Grill

Miso Sushi & Grill is a bright, airy sushi eatery in Colonial Park, a few blocks south of Brightbill park here in Harrisburg. Miso Sushi & Grill has traditional and contemporary sushi along with authentic hot dishes like Teriyaki and tempura.
The menu is a perfect balance between modern and traditional and cooked and raw. I recommend trying a few hot dishes and a few sushi dishes.
My favorite hot dish was the steak teriyaki, while my favorite raw option was the Aloha roll with battered and fried yellowtail topped with salmon and spicy sauce.
Kondu

Kondu is a unique fast-casual omakase sushi and Japanese eatery with traditional Teppanyaki as well as modern fusion dishes like sushi burritos and poke bowls.
Located in Oberlin Gardens, Kondu offers delicious, fresh, and vibrant menu items that set a high standard for fast food.
Watching the chefs prepare a Teppanyaki meal on the flat top is entertaining, theatrically grilling meat and fish and finishing it off with fried rice.
If you’re looking for the ultimate sushi combo, I recommend one of their over-the-top sushi burritos with incredible toppings.
I had the Under the Sea Burrito with salmon tempura, surimi crab, avocado, cucumber, masago, seaweed salad, and fried onion with sriracha aioli and unagi sauce.

Located in downtown Harrisburg next door to The State Museum of Pennsylvania, Miyako Sushi is a quaint sushi bar, Japanese kitchen, and cocktail lounge.
The wood interior has an intimate sushi bar where customers can watch chefs prepare their rolls in real-time.
Their vast menu has numerous sushi and sashimi combos, a la carte sushi rolls, nigiri, Teriyaki, soup, salad, hot and cold appetizers (like sake), and fried rice.
They’re also one of the only places to get bento boxes, partitioned lunch boxes with a sampling of numerous Japanese dishes.
I loved their sashimi bento box, which comes with six pieces of assorted sashimi along with soup, salad, shumai, rice, a California roll, and fruit.
The experience was so inspiring that I went and bought a sushi-making kit!

The vast dining space is a great place to come with family or a group of friends. Whether you want Thai food, hibachi, sushi, or cocktails, there’s something for everyone on Shogun’s various menus.
I started with the pork gyoza with basil soy vinegar sauce. I ordered an a la carte unagi and tobiko sushi roll to accompany a large shrimp hibachi meal shared with various friends.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed with options, they have various sushi and sashimi dinner combos so you can sample multiple rolls.
Final Thoughts
