If you’re from the U.S., you’ve surely heard of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, as the famous Civil War ground that ended the Civil War and slavery. Lincoln’s famous Gettysburg Address was the defining speech in presidential history that set the stage for America’s continued battle for civil rights and racial justice.
Tourists from around the U.S. and the world flock to the Gettysburg National Battlefield in the Gettysburg National Military Park to witness reenactments of the Civil War. Gettysburg’s quaint and colonial architecture is another charming aspect of this historic northeast town. Centuries-old houses and buildings house cute bed and breakfasts and a vast array of delicious restaurants.
Gettysburg’s restaurants are surprisingly diverse, offering world cuisines in addition to classic American food. In my most recent visit to Gettysburg, I got to experience many outstanding dining experiences and have compiled a list of the best restaurants in Gettysburg for you to explore. So, after a long day of sightseeing, you’ll know exactly where to eat in Gettysburg after perusing my eclectic and enticing list.
The Gettysburger Company

Located in the heart of downtown Gettysburg near Gettysburg Square, The Gettysburger Company is a friendly and casual American comfort restaurant specializing in hamburgers and wings. They also have over 60 different beers from local, domestic, and foreign breweries to enjoy while you participate in one of their trivia nights or watch a set of live music on the weekends.
The Gettysburger Company’s burgers are incredible, over-the-top creations made with the freshest ground beef and hand-formed to perfection. There are many amazing burgers to choose from, but my pick would be the 1863 Burger topped with a crab cake and cheddar cheese and served on a triple-decker sesame seed roll with Old Bay Sidewinder fries.

Located a block from the historic Gettysburg National Cemetery in Gettysburg National Military Park, Gettysburg Eddie’s is named the iconic post-World War I baseball hall-of-fame pitcher Edward Stewart Plank. Known as Eddie by friends, family, and fans, Plank had a highly successful career as a pitcher, playing for multiple pro-teams and winning various world series for Philadelphia, garnering him hero status in Pennsylvania.
Gettysburg Eddie’s has a vast menu featuring salads, tacos, burgers, sandwiches, fried baskets, fajitas, desserts, and much more. They also have a full wine, beer, and cocktail bar. Of course, I had to try their signature sandwich, the House Hero, with capicola ham, genoa, and cooked salami, provolone cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and banana peppers. It is served on a ciabatta roll with olive and roasted red pepper spread and a side of seasoned waffle fries.
Blue & Gray Bar & Grill

Located in the heart of the Gettysburg Museum district and one block from Gettysburg Square, Blue & Gray Bar & Grill is an American comfort food restaurant and sports bar with a lively and friendly atmosphere. Their name is a nod to the Civil War Union Army, using famous Union Army generals as names for items on their menu.
With over 20 TVs to enjoy whichever sporting event is happening worldwide, Blue & Gray bar is a popular spot for happy hour get-togethers and sport enthusiast families alike. Their menu has over a dozen varieties of wings, along with soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers, and meat and seafood entrees. But, of course, when in Pennsylvania, you must have a Philly Cheesesteak at least once, and theirs is as good as it gets.
Mason Dixon Distillery

Located in an old furniture factory in central Gettysburg, Mason Dixon Distillery is owned and operated by a father and son duo with impressive credentials. Elder owner George ran a diner in nearby Lancaster County and nurtured his young son’s fascination with distillery until he grew up and wanted to start a professional distillery and restaurant with his dad. Thus, Mason Dixon Distillery was born.
They make all their liquor on-site using locally sourced ingredients, and the excellent food encompasses a vast array of world cuisines. I recommend starting with the goat cheese brulee that has been lightly coated in sugar and caramelized over high heat served with hot pepper jam and pita bread. The Pan-Asian- influenced Mahi Mahi dish with sticky rice, avocado, and mango, and pineapple salsa is also delicious.
The Hoof, Fin & Fowl

Located just north of the Gettysburg Tour Center and the popular Ghostly Images of Gettysburg attraction, The Hoof, Fin & Fowl is a dressy-casual restaurant specializing in steak, seafood, and wild game, as you may have guessed from their name. The retro décor and giant taxidermy lining the walls let you know that you’re in for a meat and seafood central smorgasbord.
You’ll want to make a night of it at The Hoof, Fin, and Fowl, ordering a multi-course meal along with cocktails or a nice bottle of wine. I recommend the crab-stuffed oysters as an appetizer and the duck breast with sweet potato mash and brussels sprouts for the main course.

Located in the historic Lincoln Square, The Pub & Restaurant is a new American fusion restaurant located in a beautifully designed and updated building with elegant banquet and private dining rooms. The main dining room and bar with deep blue walls lined with gold-framed framed photographs, an intricately finished gold ceiling and stunning crystal chandeliers.
Despite the elegance and ritzy gold-finished décor, The Pub’s menu is budget-friendly, offering burgers, sandwiches, salads, and super tasty main dishes that take inspiration from every region around the U.S. I opted for the Cajun-inspired Grimter’s Diablo with spicy sausage and shrimp sauteed with green peppers, onions, cajun seasonings, tabasco sauce, and cayenne served over linguine.
La Bella Italia

Bella Italia is an Italian Kitchen and Pizzeria in the residential area of Gettysburg between Furniture and Hudson Alley, serving the most authentic Italian antipasti, pizza, calzones, and stromboli. They offer all the traditional Italian favorites from every region.
Their pizza is classic Neapolitan round pizza with a thin, bubbly, and chewy crust or the square-shaped, thick, and dense crusted Sicilian, my personal favorite. I recommended starting with the Mussels Mediterranean with fresh mussels sauteed in garlic, olive oil, white wine, herbs, and red pepper flakes and served over pesto orzo. Their stromboli is excellent and comes in small, medium, and large sizes.

Located right off the busy Lincoln Highway, Food 101 is a New American café offering delicious high-end cuisine at affordable prices in a cheery and friendly atmosphere. They’ve received a certificate of excellence from Tripadvisor four years in a row. Despite the name, Food 101’s menu is anything but rudimentary, offering a wide variety of cuisines, flavors, and cooking methods.
I’m a big fan of their tuna niçoise salad featuring a perfectly cooked tuna filet over a bed of mixed greens, haricot vert, potatoes, egg, olives, shallots, roasted tomatoes, sherry vinaigrette. However, if that is too light for you, I recommend trying the Chef’s signature pasta dish, the curried fettuccine with Italian fennel sausage, zucchini, squash, onion, and house curry cream sauce.

Located across Lincoln Freeway from the Seminary Ridge Museum and Education Center, Montezuma Restaurant is a traditional Mexican food restaurant serving classic regional favorites like fajitas, burritos, and enchiladas. Named for the famous Aztec Emperor who fell to Spanish conquistador Hernan Cortez, Montezuma Restaurant is a state-wide favorite with Gettysburg, Chambersburg, and Waynesboro locations.
If you know Mexican food, then you know you cannot eat at a Mexican food restaurant without ordering guacamole, and their made-to-order guacamole is fantastic. I love their sizzling fajita plates; namely, the grilled steak, served with even more guacamole, pico de gallo, and charro beans with fresh, hot tortillas.
Dobbin House Tavern

The Dobbin House is a historic landmark in Gettysburg as it is Gettysburg’s oldest house, built by Reverend Alexander Dobbin seven years before the Civil War. It is now a historical attraction with various on-site accommodations, including a Bed and Breakfast, country store, ballroom, bakery, and of course, a fancy food tavern.
The house itself is beautifully preserved and a very romantic and charming setting for a special meal. They offer candlelight dinner menus and a more casual, lighter Tavern menu. I recommend the fancy steak and seafood dinner menu, featuring prime rib, high-quality steaks, and fresh shellfish and fish dishes. Whatever you order, save room for their spectacular homemade desserts, my favorite being the pecan pie.
KAZUE Ramen & Sushi Bar

Located inside the popular Majestic Theater complex in central Gettysburg, KAZUE Ramen and Sushi Bar offers authentic Japanese sushi and ramen in a casual, no-frills atmosphere. You can have a steamy bowl of ramen to fuel a night at the theater.
Their giant bowls of ramen are colorful and filled with a wealth of flavorful ingredients that are sure to leave you full and well-nourished. My favorite ramen bowl is the Kimchi Ramen which combines Japanese and South Korean flavors with a soy-based chicken broth filled with pork belly, soft-boiled egg, bamboo shoots, seaweed, bok choy, beansprouts, dried seaweed, fish cake, green onion, and Kimchi.
Garryowen Irish Pub

Located in central Gettysburg, Garryowen Irish Pub has a whopping 120 different types of Irish whiskey, plus imported Irish beers, cold and warm Guinness pours, and traditional Irish pub fare. The pub even looks Irish, located in an old stone building with a giant fireplace warming the cozy main dining room. They also have live traditional Irish music every first and third Sunday of every month and live music every Friday and Saturday night.
Owned and run by an Irishman, Garryowen’s pub fare uses old family recipes and imports many ingredients from Ireland. I recommend their Fish and Chips, featuring crispy, Yuengling-battered haddock, thick-cut fries, tartar sauce, and lemon.
Tanias Mexican Restaurant & Store

Located in northeast Gettysburg along the Stevens Run, Tanias Mexican Restaurant and Store is a casual, authentic Mexican food restaurant and Mexican specialty grocery store. You can dine and pick up your favorite Mexican food items like salsas, sweets, and corn masa. Tania’s is a family-friendly restaurant offering the most authentic northern Mexican food in town.
One of their specialties at Tania’s is their whole grilled chickens or pollo asado that is expertly spiced and super juicy. I ordered their sopes, thick corn cakes topped with refried beans, lettuce, cheese, sour cream, and your choice of steak, pork, chorizo, or chicken.

Originating in the nearby town of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, in 1997, the Appalachian Brewing Company has since expanded to five other towns, including the Gettysburg Battlefield location located right next to the Gettysburg Heritage Center. The Battlefield location’s spacious two-story high ceilinged dining room surrounded by wall to ceiling windows and a large, shaded patio area is a great place to come for excellent craft beer and delicious American bar food.
Their large pub menu features everything from classic bar fare wings, Bavarian pretzels, and nachos to delicious salads, sandwiches, burgers, Mexican tacos, and quesadillas. They have a ton of vegetarian and vegan options plus gluten-free options to accommodate all dietary preferences. I went for the ultimate brewpub comfort food, their amazing pierogies, and beer brats featuring grilled Mountain Lager steeped bratwurst. It has cheese stuffed pierogies sautéed in garlic butter topped with caramelized onions and served with garlic mashed potatoes and Brewhaus mustard.
Mai Noodle House

Mai Noodle House is an Asian and Seafood restaurant located in central Gettysburg, right down the road from the Rupp House History Center and the famous Haunted Gettysburg Ghost Tours. They offer traditional noodles, soup, and seafood dishes from around China and Pan-Asian and Cajun fusion dishes.
They offer traditional Asian favorites like chow mein, General Tsao’s chicken, and fried rice. They also have full Cajun seafood boils that incorporate fancier seafood options like crab legs and lobster tails in addition to the conventional crawfish.
Blessing Restaurant Gettysburg

Located directly in front of the Friend to Friend Masonic Memorial in Gettysburg National Cemetery, Blessing Restaurant is a Mexican and Salvadorian restaurant in a quaint, family-friendly eatery painted bright orange and green. They always have a different silly or inspirational phrase posted daily on their movie-theater style billboard.
Whether you want authentic Mexican Birria or Salvadorian pupusas, you’ll get the best of both worlds from Blessing Restaurant. One of my favorite traditional Mexican dishes that are hard to find in restaurants because they’re usually prepared in homes during the holidays is tamales. Blessing has all my favorite tamales, including poblano and cheese, red sauce and pork, and green sauce with chicken.

If you’re looking for the quintessential northeast diner experience, look no further than Lincoln Diner. With over 60 years as a downtown Gettysburg favorite, this diner has the typical breakfast, lunch, and dinner favorites typical of a classic American diner. You can get their award-winning breakfasts all day and night. Open 24-hours, the Lincoln Diner is a favorite spot for college students and night-owls to enjoy a midnight meal.
I’m a fan of breakfast, so I had to try their blueberry pancakes with two scrambled eggs. They also make excellent French toast using homemade bread. Try the Monte Cristo sandwich with turkey, ham, and swiss cheese grilled open-faced on their famous French toast if you want the ultimate combination of savory and sweet.
O’Rorke’s Family Eatery

Another traditional Irish pub and eatery, O’Rorke’s, is in a cute old house with a refurbished wood interior replete with a wood-burning fireplace. Located amongst a slew of touristy old homes converted into Civil War stores and souvenir shops along Gettysburg’s main Steinwehr Avenue, O’Rorke’s is always filled with tourists and local civil war reenactors, making for a fun, lively atmosphere.
They serve both traditional Irish pub fare as well as American bar food. If you want traditional Irish, I will go with the bangers and mashed Irish sausage over mashed potatoes with sauteed onions and Guinness gravy.
George’s at the Swope Manor

The Swope Manor is a beautiful bed and breakfast in a historic building right off Gettysburg Square, and George’s is the high-end New American bistro located on the premises. George’s takes pride in its farm-to-table approach, featuring the freshest, locally sourced ingredients.
George’s menu has a heavy Italian and French influence, with an excellent Charcuterie program and house-made pasta accompanying their steak and seafood dishes. I recommend the lobster ravioli with a house-made vodka blush sauce. Their NY strip with wild mushroom demi-glace and a side of creamed spinach is the ultimate experience of luxurious decadence.

Located along the picturesque Stevens Run waterfront, NY Halal Gyro is a fast-food middle eastern restaurant specializing in kebabs, falafel, and gyros. Portions are hefty, and prices are low at this popular Mediterranean spot. Tourists and college students alike flock to NY Halal Gyro for a taste of Middle Eastern comfort food at its best.
I love their lamb gyros, but my favorite item is their perfectly light and crispy falafel balls wrapped in warm pita and drizzled with a tangy tahini sauce, lettuce, tomatoes, and onions.
Gettysburg is not just a destination for American history buffs but an eclectic culinary destination with a food scene that encompasses all types of American and world cuisines. You’re sure to find a wonderful meal, friendly service, and a cozy atmosphere at one of the restaurants on my list of best restaurants in Gettysburg.
