This was perfect for us because there are so many you can’t choose just one. In this article, we will discuss the best places to eat in Omaha.

V Mertz is a contemporary restaurant located in Northeast Nebraska. It is minutes away from Poppleton Block, a building built in 1880 for the Omaha lawyer and politician AJ Poppleton.
It became a landmark in 1982 and is now listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
All the dishes at this restaurant are made from fresh produce and meat. My favorite dish was the fried chicken thigh. It was served with fingerling potato salad, broccolini, and house hot sauce.
Chicken thighs are my favorite part of the chicken because they were so flavorful and juicy.
The Boiler Room

The boiler room is an interesting restaurant because it is a historical landmark. It gets its name from the fact that it was a boiler room that provided heat for the Business Bag Building, which is 120 years old.
The building is made of brick walls and reinforced concrete to isolate and fireproof the room.
It’s run by Chef Tim Nicholson, an Omaha native, initially brought in as a sous chef. The boiler room offers Artesian meals.
A recommendation at this restaurant is the Italian pork sausage served with creamy local grits, spicy tomato sauce, kale, fennel, and anchovy Aioli.
The Drover

Drover restaurant and lounge is one of the best restaurants in Omaha. It’s a steakhouse located near the Georgia Roadhouse.
The Georgia Roadhouse is a historic house that Finley and shields designed. Its made of brick limestone, sandstone, and stucco. It’s true beauty to look it.
Georgia Roadhouse is one of few traditional houses that still exist in Nebraska. Dover restaurant is known for selling some of the best whiskey marinated steaks.
The 10 ounce top sirloin served with warm white bread, baked potatoes, and broccoli is a comfort food meal that’s worth a nap after.

Au Courant Restaurant is a modern European restaurant located near the Central Park Plaza. Central Park Plaza is a 15 foot, 419,000 square-foot office building built-in 1982. It’s a great historical landmark in Nebraska that everyone should see.
Au Courant Has many exciting menu options. Their food is made based on in-season produce. Therefore the menu changes.
However, they offer six-course meal options. Our recommendation is the half dozen oysters and mignonette served with beets.
You can also add extras add an additional cost. The squash spaghettini with Parmigiano was awesome.
I also had the opportunity to try the monkfish served with spinach and lemon, which was also delicious.
Le Voltaire

Le Voltaire is a French restaurant located near the famous Boys Town Historic Landmark. The Boys Town Historic Landmark shares Nebraska history with visitors by teaching them how to give back.
The village of Boys Town was incorporated in 1936 and has provided care for boys and girls who have behavioral, emotional, and academic issues.
Le Voltaire is one of the best restaurants in Omaha because their food is so flavorful. Their smoked salmon, beef burgundy, and crème brûlée are entrées you should try.
Their flatbread served with seasoned olive oil is an excellent side for your entrée or as an appetizer.

Now we couldn’t list the 41 best restaurants in Omaha without having Block 16. Black 16 is your destination for fried chicken, cheeseburgers, and french fries. It’s also located near Poppleton Block and Central Park Plaza.
No matter where I travel, a burger and fries are never something I turn down. My favorite burger here is the Croque garçon burger.
It’s made with 1/3 pound of John’s natural hamburger meat, cheese, ham, sunny-side-up farm egg, mustard, and truffle mayo served on a Ciabatta roll.
I opted to get the egg well done, and it was by far the best cheeseburger I’ve had. And for those people who are looking to watch their carbs, never fear you can order a side salad or even sweet potato fries as the side.
Dinker’s Bar and Grill

Dinker’s Bar and Grill is another American restaurant and burger joint. It’s located near the Gerald R. Ford Birthsite and Gardens.
This is where the United States president Gerald R. Ford lived for a couple of weeks when he was firstborn. In fact, the home belongs to his paternal grandparents.
Dinker‘s bar and grill is a great place to stop by because they offer great lunch specials. Each day of the month, they offer a different lunch special.
You can access their calendar on their website. My recommendation at this restaurant is the chicken fried steak.
I had never had breaded and fried steak, and it was so awesome that I would go back to get it again.
Brother Sebastian’s Steakhouse

Brother Sebastian’s steakhouse is another notable restaurant in Omaha. It is located near the historical Boys Town Visitor Center.
The steakhouse is known for its USDA choice of Angus steaks, prime rib, and its wine menu. Sebastian’s also serves seafood. My recommendation is the shrimp scampi as an appetizer and the beef kebab.
The beef kebab was an excellent balance of meat. I ordered vegetables served with mashed potatoes with even more vegetables on the side.
Another recommendation is the scallops Dijon which are scallops wrapped in bacon and eggs with brown sugar. They are served with Dijon mustard sauce, yummy.
Lo Sole Mio

Lo Sole Mio is an Italian restaurant. It’s also located near Central Park Plaza and Omaha’s Henry Dorley zoo and aquarium.
The restaurant is family-owned, and it’s a great place to enjoy your favorite Italian dish. Opened in August 1992 by Marie and her husband, the restaurant was a humble beginning straight out of high school.
My favorite appetizer there was the stuffed mozzarella served with marinara sauce. My favorite entrée was the pollo E broccoli.
This is simply a marinated boneless chicken breast that has been grilled and served with broccoli on the side. I know it seems cliché not to eat pasta at an Italian restaurant, but that was my favorite.
M’s Pub

M’s Pub is another interesting restaurant to visit in Omaha. Its Cuisine is inspired by food from Washington D.C.’s Georgetown combined with London Pubs.
The restaurant is also located near Poppleton Block, the Georgia Roadhouse, and Central Park Plaza.
However, it is also near the Bob Kerrey pedestrian bridge. The bridge is 3000 feet long and crosses the Missouri River. It gives pedestrians a beautiful view of the Omaha skyline.
Our recommendations are M’s Pub delicious crab cakes served with pickled vegetables and sweet chili aïoli. They also have a delicious bacon cheeseburger that has their special sauce.

Modern love is a vegan restaurant that serves comfort food. We had no idea that it was a vegan restaurant when we went there, but instead of running away, we chose to try it.
It’s also located near the Bob Carrey pedestrian bridge and the JL Brandeis and Son store building built-in 1982.
Now, it’s converted into an apartment building. We tried the holiday nacho mac and cheese tray. The cheddar cheese sauce was made out of cashews.
It was served with pico de gallo, avocado, pickled jalapeños, and cilantro. It turned out to be a delectable dish.
Dario’s Brasserie

Dario’s Brasserie is a French restaurant close to Bob Carrey’s pedestrian bridge and the Gerald R. Ford Birthsite and Gardens. The restaurant serves traditional French cuisine.
Their vegetarian crêpe is loaded with spaghetti squash, cured carrots, local mushrooms, goat cheese toasted in a gluten-free crepe.
The dish is even better when you add brussels sprouts to it. Another recommendation at Dario’s Brasserie is the chocolate hazelnut cake.
I’ve always been a fan of hazelnut coffee, but the hazelnut cake is on another level. It’s sweet, satisfying, and it just makes you want another slice.

Nicola’s is a rustic Italian restaurant. Believe it or not, Nicola’s Italian restaurant is also near Omaha’s Henry Dorley zoo and aquarium and the Bob Carrey pedestrian bridge.
By now, you’re wondering how all these restaurants fit in this small area. I am a salami lover, so my favorite dish Nicola’s is the antipasto Italiano.
It came with buffalo mozzarella, prosciutto, geoma salami, sun-dried tomatoes, asiago cheese, kalamata olives, and pickles.
It was a tasty dish that wasn’t very heavy but filling. Nicola’s also sells panini sandwiches, pizzas, and pasta.
Their fettuccine Alfredo is truly delectable. In fact, that makes them one of the best restaurants in Omaha.
Coneflower Creamery

The Coneflower Creamery is your destination for handmade ice cream. It’s located near Joslyn castle, which is a place you should visit in Omaha.
It was owned by George and Sarah Joslyn, who believed that wealth was a great trust and obligation and that it was essential to get back.
If you’re in the mood for a sweet treat, this is a place to go. They serve ice pops, ice cream, sandwiches, floats, root beers, and artesian bottled sodas.
They also have loads of sauces and toppings to enjoy with the ice cream. When I visited the Coneflower Creamery, I got vanilla ice cream with salted caramel on top. It made my mouth water.

Dolce Is your destination for fine dining. It is near Omaha’s Quartermaster Depot Historic District and the Central Park Plaza.
The Omaha Quartermaster Depot Historic District is a compilation of several brick buildings built for the U.S. Army between 1881 and 1894.
Here you will get a meal experience you have never had before. I recommend the chorizo mac and cheese.
It contained house chorizo. It also had cream cheddar, goat and blue cheese, grana parmesan, and bread crumbs for all you cheese lovers. It was so good that I would go back there just for that.

UMAMI is a sushi restaurant nestled near Poppleton Block and Central Park Plaza. There is a lot to say about this restaurant.
It is without a doubt one of the best restaurants in Omaha. Sushi is something I don’t get to eat, but I love it when I do.
The three-way Salmon Ceviche Appetizer has smoked salmon, tomatoes, cilantro, onions, and crispy skin.
The crispy skin was new to me, but I will be opting for it from now on. It was a great starter that led me to my favorite California roll loaded with crab meat, avocado, and cucumber.

The 801 Chophouse at the Paxton is Omaha’s Premier Steakhouse nestled in Omaha’s Old Market. It will give you an upscale dining experience with its beautiful interior finishes.
The menu is straightforward. We went for Sunday dinner, and we got to choose from filet mignon, prime rib, or salmon.
I chose the salmon, which was served with pan-seared potatoes, Brussel sprouts, and caper beurre blanc. One memorable thing about this restaurant is the homemade sorbet.
Many people love sorbet. Unfortunately, rarely do any restaurants sell it. I opted for the creme brulee, a nice dessert to end the night with.

Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. It’s not because I should eat breakfast to avoid overeating but because I never get tired of eating pancakes, eggs, bacon, and potatoes.
That’s why I loved my visit to Saddle Creek Breakfast Club. It’s located near the Auction Mill that hosts liquidation auctions and personal property appraisals.
When I went to the Saddle Creek Breakfast Club, I ordered the double standard: three eggs, hash browns, and half biscuits and gravy.
It came with two types of meat, but I opted for the chicken fried pork. I recommend the meal. My partner ordered banana pancakes which were also good.

Yoshitomo is a seafood restaurant near the Central Park Plaza and Poppleton Block. Yoshitomo’s has excellent seafood dishes.
I ordered the truffle scallop with Hokkaido scallop, truffle salt, and lemon confit. The smoked hotate is very good as well, which is also served with scallops.
If you are a mackerel lover, I definitely recommend the saba, which is Norwegian mackerel. Let’s not forget Sake which is salmon.
I’m not a fan of tuna, but my partner swears by their maguro. By the way, these are all to-go foods. There is no need to spend a lot of time in a restaurant if you don’t want to.

Wave Bistro is also near Central Park Plaza and Poppleton Block. It’s also near the Mormon Trail Center, which signifies the westward migration of Latter-day saints.
The Wave Bistro is a family-owned restaurant that serves Asian and European-influenced dishes. One of the best starters was the jumbo lump crab cakes.
It was so tasty and had huge chunks of crab served with lemon butter sauce. I coupled that with stir-fried fresh vegetables.
My partner ordered lemon creamy almond shrimp, which is served with broccoli. Their Japanese vanilla souffle cheesecake is to die for.
Spezia Omaha

Spezia Steaks and Italian Seafood is a restaurant that you must visit. It is located near the great and well-mentioned Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge and Henry Doorly zoo and aquarium.
It was a great place for bread! I opted for the Margherita flatbread with asiago and fresh mozzarella with Roma tomato and basil.
I then ordered the cheese ravioli and opted to add shrimp and scallops. The cheese ravioli was served with butter parmesan sauce topped with Italian cheeses and broiled.
Don’t worry. I fasted all day before I ate dinner there. This is one of the best restaurants in Omaha.
J Coco

J Coco is a great restaurant that you should visit before the end of this year. They will be closing on December 31st. It’s near the Mormon Trail Center and Central Park Plaza as well.
Jennifer Coco is the head chef who has created her own cooking style. She vows to create modern twists to classic dishes, which is precisely what she has done.
Her drunken mussels were made in tomato confit, doused in a beer and butter reduction with garlic, and served with grilled ciabatta.
Her macaroni and cheese was crunchy in a new way, not with bread crumbs but with potato chips!
Crescent Moon

The Crescent Moon is an ale house located near the Joslyn Castle, Georgia Row House, and Central Park Plaza. The Crescent Moon serves some of the best spinach artichoke dip and garlic cheese bread.
They also serve soups such as homemade chili and spicy chicken tortilla soup. If you’re into salads, they also have a grilled chicken salad and a pretty decent chef salad loaded with tomatoes, onions, green peppers, shredded cheese, housemade croutons, and boiled eggs.
And guess what, it comes with a garlic cheese breadstick. As simple as it sounds, I really love their home-style chicken strips. I ordered them with honey mustard. I ate them with spinach artichoke dip and garlic bread.

Lisa’s Radial Cafe is located near the historical Smyth house, which is also close to, you guessed it, the Central Park Plaza. The Smyth house is currently a private residence built in 1906.
It was chosen as the ASID designer house twice because of its beautiful gardens and 100-year-old oak trees. Lisa’s Radical Café is an excellent breakfast place.
I opted for the veggie omelet, which came with mushrooms, green peppers, onions, Swiss and American cheese.
I ordered bacon on the side. The omelets automatically come with hashbrowns and toast. It was a great way to start off my morning in Omaha, Nebraska.

The Early Bird restaurant is a brunch eatery near the historical Mormon Trail Center at Winter Quarters.
They serve American food for every taste, from sandwiches to macaroni and cheese to alcohol to salads.
My partner has always been a sucker for cinnamon rolls, so we ordered cinnamon rolls smothered with buttercream frosting, and two just weren’t enough.
We ended up ordering two more orders so that we could take them back to the hotel with us.
They also serve a shrimp grit benny, which is two grit cakes made with shrimp, andouille sausage, and cheddar cheese.
It’s topped with poached eggs, hollandaise, and fried shrimp. Needless to say, I didn’t want to leave Omaha.

La Buvette is a French restaurant and wine bar located in the Old Market area of Downtown Omaha. It is close to all the landmarks we’ve listed so far, including the Bob Kerrey pedestrian bridge, Georgia Row House, and Central Park Plaza.
If you are a cheese lover, they offer a mixed cheese plate with your selection of three kinds of cheese.
I opted for the hot grilled sandwich toasted with black olives and tomato and served with a small salad.
The meat choices for the sandwich were ham and salami. I opted for both. I also ordered a side of cucumbers as they serve cucumbers, black olives, tomatoes, and cornichons as side dishes.

Le Bouillon is a French restaurant located in what used to be a fruit and vegetable warehouse. The owner Sam Mercer had the vision to create a French restaurant and launched the old market as Le Bouillon.
If you are hungry and want to watch your carbs, this is the place to go. The Amish rotisserie chicken comes with fried green tomatoes and a beefy sauce.
The Atlantic monkfish is served with shrimp, lentils, sourdough, and salsa Verde. They also have a delicious golden beets salad, including squash, walnut vinaigrette, and spice nuts.

Dantes is a woodfired Italian and Neapolitan pizzeria in Omaha. This is the first pizzeria we’ve listed on this eating guide. But it is by far one of the best restaurants in Omaha. Dantes is not too far from the Boys Townhall of history.
They offer dine-in and carry-out options. We chose to try the Bianco pizza, which included papa’s sausage, olives, garlic, chili, basil, olive oil, and mozzarella.
You could taste the seasoning and the olive oil in the pizza. It tasted very fresh, like the difference between something that’s bought frozen and made fresh.

Avoli Osteria is an Italian restaurant opened by Dario and Amy Schicke in 2013. It’s located near the historic Omaha neighborhood of Dundee and serves up some of the best Italian dishes.
One thing to appreciate is that even though there are multiple Italian restaurants, each of them serves different specialties.
The butter lettuce comes with lemon thyme vinaigrette and pickled red onions. It’s a great starter before your entree.
I opted to order the chicken, which was served with plum creek airline, romesco, sweet peppers, cauliflower, and almonds. They also serve tiramisu, which I was so excited about because I love it so much.

The La Casa Pizzeria serves pizza and pasta and is located near the historic Central Park Plaza. They even have a mobile food truck that serves their famous pizza by the slice. Pizza is one of those things that we love to eat so much that we plan ahead of time.
We try to avoid overeating as much as possible by fasting the whole day until it’s time to eat that particular meal. We started with hand-breaded onion rings.
We then ordered the classic hamburger pizza with ground beef, onions, mozzarella, and romano. Guess what dessert we ended the night with? Non other than the great tiramisu.

Sullivan’s Steakhouse is inside the Central Park Plaza, located in the historic district of downtown Omaha. The food at Sullivan’s Steakhouse was unbeatable.
We started with their cheesesteak egg rolls filled with filet mignon and sweet and spicy chili sauce served with honey mustard.
Believe it or not, I felt adventurous and opted for soup as my entree. I got the shrimp and lobster bisque. It did not disappoint, and I definitely recommend the dish.
I ordered Brussel sprouts as a side seasoned with hickory-smoked bacon and caramelized onions. I preferred that over a steak even though I was at a steakhouse.

Salween Thai is a Thai restaurant located near the Mormon Trail Center at Winter Quarters. I like Thai food, even though I’ve only had it a couple of times.
I definitely recommend their egg rolls. I didn’t realize they had shrimp and ground pork until I looked at the menu.
I opted for the shrimp pad thai, which came with rice noodles, egg, green onion, bean sprouts, and peanuts. I thought I would try something other than Thai fried rice.
I didn’t get dessert this time because it was early in the day when we stopped by Salween’s. But they serve a fried banana with ice cream that I’m looking to try next time.
Big Mama’s Kitchen and Catering

Big Mommas kitchen is located in historic Omaha and is a family-owned soul food restaurant. It is located near the Mormon Trail Center at Winter quarters and started out as a catering business.
This is your soul food destination, and for that, I have to say that it is one of the best restaurants in Omaha.
I ordered one of my favorite dishes of all time, fried chicken wings. It came with macaroni and cheese and coleslaw. My partner ordered fried catfish with mashed potatoes and gravy.
We shared a sweet potato pudding, which was the highlight of our meal. It was warm, sweet, and crunchy with the taste of a sweet potato pie without the crust.

Kathmandu Momo Station is also near the Mormon Trail Center at Winter Quarters. The menu at this restaurant is surprisingly small.
But when you make something as tasty as their dumplings, there’s not much else you need to focus on selling.
We ordered chicken dumplings with the Kathmandu classic sauce. We couldn’t go with their traditional Johl sauce because we both are allergic to peanuts.
The Kathmandu sauce is a mix of sesame and tomato blend sauce spiced with peppers from Nepal.
The dumplings were really good for us. We shared one order of dumplings which came with seven dumplings and sauce.
Sage Student Bistro

The Sage Student Bistro is another restaurant located near the Central Park Plaza. I loved that they had a snack menu.
It was cold during the time we visited the bistro, so their artisan bread with warm butter hit the spot. It makes sense not to expect a lot from a student bistro, but it had a decent menu.
Their Argentinian burger turned out pretty good. They also sell ginger cider, another warm treat that hit the spot.
It is a great place to stop by and get a quick meal to hold you over until you can make it home or down the street to another restaurant.

The Mahogany Prime Steakhouse is located in historic Omaha as well. It is near Central Park Plaza and the Gerald R. Ford Birthsite and Gardens.
Their dynamite shrimp is served with sweet chile and sriracha sauce. I don’t usually eat spicy foods, but I wanted more once I tried this.
I also started with a wedge salad with bacon and julienned carrots. I ordered it without the blue cheese and added ranch dressing.
I know it seems off to go to a steakhouse and rarely ever get steak, but these restaurants tend to have some of the best seafood dishes.
That’s why I ordered the jumbo-fried shrimp with au gratin potatoes.

Louis M’s Burgerlust is another burger joint located near the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge in historic Omaha. Burgers are another one of my favorite foods. I understand how the restaurant’s name pulls in visitors. “Give in to your desire for real food.”
The great thing about this restaurant is that it serves breakfast as well. We were there for dinner, though. We started off with a french fry basket.
Yes, I know it says that it serves four people on the menu. I ordered the swiss mushroom burger, and it was delicious. I would have to say that Louis M.’s Burgerlust is another one of the best restaurants in Omaha.

Shucks Fish House and Oyster Bar is another restaurant located in historical Omaha. It is close to the Georgia Row House and the Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium. I love seafood, so I was extra excited to visit Shucks Fish House and Oyster Bar.
We started off with a shrimp cocktail which was just steamed shrimp served with chilled cocktail sauce. The restaurant also serves salads, sandwiches, and soups.
I ordered the blackened chicken alfredo and substituted the chicken with shrimp. It was a decadent dish that I couldn’t finish in one sitting. Sometimes my eyes are bigger than my stomach.

The Upstream Brewing Company is an American restaurant located near the Lewis and Clark landmark trail and marina. They serve tacos, wings, steaks, sandwiches, and pizza. There are even vegan and vegetarian options.
For those who like to eat pretzels outside of carnival and fair time, they serve warm pretzels with mustard. I ordered the blackened Baha shrimp tacos with corn jicama slaw, lime, and cotija cheese.
You have a choice of getting the shrimp fried or sauteed. I chose fried shrimp. I also enjoyed a side caesar salad with the tacos, which was a great add-on.

Omaha Kebabs is the place to visit if kebabs are your thing. It is located near the Boys Town National Landmark. Everyone loves shish kebabs, right? We ordered hummus off the starter menu, which was served with pita bread.
It’s the perfect add-on to the kebabs. We went with the ground beef kebabs. It was a beautiful dinner of bread and meat dipped in hummus, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. There are also salad options.
While we didn’t order a salad, they did have a greek salad that looked good. It came with tomato, cucumbers, olives, bell peppers, onions, and lemon vinegar dressing.

J. Gilbert’s Wood-Fired Steaks & Seafood restaurant was very impressive. It’s also located near the Central Park Plaza.
This time I didn’t order seafood. Instead, I ordered the wood-grilled ribs. To be honest, I am wowed every time I get out of my comfort zone.
The ribs were served with thin-cut fries and creamed corn with bacon. It’s hard to describe the dish in words. They had a wood-grilled taste and melted in my mouth.
Not to mention, they were extra tender. The meat was almost falling off the bone. It wasn’t a meal one could eat without a bib.
Final Thoughts
Omaha is a great place to visit with its historic buildings and fantastic restaurants. They made it easy for you to enjoy all the foods they offer because they all are located in the same area. Just walk down some calories and stop at one of the restaurants to pack on some more.
