Astoria Pizza Restaurants You Have to Try

Astoria is one of my favorite neighborhoods in New York.

friends out eating at a pizza place in astoria

Located in the western part of Queens, Astoria is a true melting pot, with a rich mix of Greek, Italian, Asian, and other cultures.

Some popular local attractions include Bohemian Hall, the oldest beer garden in the US, and Socrates Sculpture Park.

The neighborhood is primarily middle-class and residential with a strong sense of community – and a long history of great food.

Pizza has remained a popular local favorite for decades, and the area offers up a vast selection of excellent options.

I’ve spent lots of time exploring the restaurants of Astoria, and eating every slice of pizza I found along the way.

No matter if you’re in the mood for Neapolitan, Margherita, traditional NY style, or more, you’ll find it here.

Check out my list of the best pizza in Astoria below!

Milkflower is helmed by the Aggelato brothers, who learned the art of pizza cooking from their uncle in New Jersey before opening their own place in Queens.

You’ll find them just a few blocks north of the Broadway Branch of the Queen Library, on 31st Avenue between 34th Street and 35th Street.

It’s a cozy spot perfect for a date or dining with a small group of friends.

They’re home to some of the neighborhood’s best wood-fired pizzas.

While you can’t build your own, they do offer a wide selection of specialty pies.

Some of my favorites are the Marky Marc, with Agriniou olives and Fresno chili, and the Wu-Tang Clam, with cherrystone clams, garlic and Fresno chili.

Basil Brick Oven Pizza is a few blocks southeast of Astoria Park near the intersection of Astoria Boulevard and 27th Street.

It’s a hip, but welcoming, pizzeria and Italian restaurant with a wood-fired oven.

They pride themselves on creating all their food fresh on the premises.

Their pizzas are individual 12″ pies cooked on-site in the restaurant’s wood-burning oven.

They offer a wide range of Margherita, marinara, and specialty pizzas that make perfect snacks before a night on the town.

If you’re looking for something you’ve likely never had before, I recommend the Pizzucca, made with herbed pumpkin walnut sauce instead of the traditional tomato type.

Brothers Joseph and Salvatore Rizzo first opened the doors way back in 1959, and they’ve remained a local favorite ever since.

You’ll find them near William C. Bryant High School at the corner of 30th Avenue and Steinway Street.

The restaurant is cozy with a few tables, friendly staff, and local sports on the TV.

They’re famous for their thin-crust pizzas baked in a square shape. You can build your own or choose one of their custom creations.

If you don’t want one of their signature square pizzas, they also make classic circular pies.

Patsy’s is a small, unassuming pizzeria on 1st Avenue and East 118th Street, right next door to P.S. 155. It’s a family-friendly restaurant with an old-school Italian style.

They’re within walking distance of Central Park. You can’t miss the classic green awning that stretches along the length of the building.

TV legend Regis Philbin used to rave about this place, and it’s easy to see why.

They have a full menu of classic Italian dishes along with traditional NY pizza with your choice of toppings.

They’re also one of my top recommendations if you’re looking for vegetarian options.

They’re just across the street from the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts on 35th Avenue between 36th Street and 37th Street. Brothers Anthony and Domenico Sacramone have created a warm, family-friendly atmosphere.

The restaurant is open for both lunch and dinner.

Abruzzo cuisine, named after a region in Italy, is known for its bold, fresh flavors.

Their pizzas feature homemade dough, garden veggies, and tomato sauce made fresh each day. Each is cooked to perfection in the coal-brick oven.

While you’ll find no shortage of Neapolitan pizzas in Astoria, the Tufino Pizzeria gets my vote for the most authentic in town.

Their Stefano Ferrara wood-burning oven was made in Naples with volcanic ash from Mount Vesuvius, and their homemade dough is leavened for three days.

You’ll find these authentic pies at the corner of Ditmars Boulevard and 37th Street, on the same block as Alba’s Pizza.

They have a dozen specialty Neapolitan pizzas, including favorites such as the Italian-inspired San Gennaro or the Nonna with meatballs and ricotta.

Across the street from the Bohemian Hall and Beer Garden, on 24th Avenue and 29th Street, you’ll find Macoletta.

It’s a casual, family-friendly restaurant with Italian-style pizza and homemade pasta.

Executive Chef Ettore Tosches creates accessible, authentic dishes while Cocktail Creator Enzo Cangemi serves up a variety of creative concoctions.

They have a robust selection of Neapolitan pizzas including vegetarian and spicy options.

My favorite is the Diablo, made with spicy salami, ‘nduja, fresh mozz, Calabrian chili, and honey.

If you’re looking for a vegetarian option, I recommend the Bianca, with basil, pine nuts, sea salt, and roasted garlic.

They’re a casual dining restaurant known for NY-style pizza along with other family-friendly fare such as burgers and calzones.

The pizza selection is one of the biggest in Astoria, with a solid selection of Specialty and Sicilian options.

I absolutely love the Grand Ave Special, their signature pizza with three meats and various veggies.

You can order all their pizzas either as a whole pie or by the slice.

Plus, if you live in the neighborhood, they offer free delivery when you order online.

Rosa’s Pizza is a casual pizza spot where the flavors remind me of classic Brooklyn pies.

They’re east of the Socrates Sculpture Garden at the intersection of 24th Street and 31st Avenue.

It’s a low-key, friendly place where you’ll find daily specials written on a chalkboard as you step inside.

They have both round and Sicilian pies, made with crusts that aren’t too thick, and a homemade sauce with just the right amount of sweetness.

Whenever I go here, I always order a side of their garlic knots, which are some of my favorites in the city.

Great pizza starts with fresh ingredients, a philosophy the Antika Pizzeria is thoroughly committed to.

You’ll find their family-friendly resto on 30th Avenue between 36th Street and 37th Street.

It’s a cozy place with lots of wood paneling and old-fashioned arches, making it somewhere I recommend for dates and family dinners.

They have many different traditional pizzas, including their signature offering, the Old-Fashioned Grandma-Style Square Pizza.

Cozy and welcoming, Astoria Pizzeria does its namesake proud with fresh, flavorful pizza available as a whole pie and by the slice.

They’re on 30th Avenue just before the 30th intersection, one block sound of the 30th Avenue subway stop.

You can create custom pies or order one of their signature creations.

In terms of pure creativity, their pizzas are hard to beat. I’m a fan of their Holy Nacho Pizza, which has ground beef, jalapenos, and nacho cheese sauce.

Of course, you also can’t go wrong with their signature pizza, the Vodka Margherita Pie, made with fresh mozz and vodka sauce.

People ask me all the time about where to get pizza in Astoria, and there are so many great places that I’m almost not sure where to start!

From small spots where you can grab a quick slice to upscale restaurants that serve up authentic Neapolitan pizzas, you’re sure to find somewhere perfect for family night, date night, or any other occasion.

Of course, pizza isn’t the only delicious food you can find around town.
