Since 2008, Clover Club has been the premiere cocktail bar in Brooklyn. You’ll find this classic cocktail bar on Smith Street near Boerum Park.
Clover Club might be a premier cocktail bar, but it’s still in Brooklyn. That means you can walk in without having to go around velvet rope, all while still feeling like one of the most influential people in the room. It’s dimly lit, and all the staff wears vests with ties.
From the moment I walked inside Clover Club, I could understand why people love coming here. The subtle jazz music playing in the background, a list of classic and modern cocktails, and the welcoming atmosphere are wonderful. I noticed they have a cocktail on the menu named after the bar, so I had to try it. It’s raspberry, gin, dry vermouth, lemon, and ginger.
Elsa

Less than five minutes from the Henry W. Maxwell Memorial is a great neighborhood bar, Elsa. You’ll know you’ve arrived when you see a neon sign displaying the bar’s name in the window. Elsa features art deco-themed decorations and a beautiful patio. There’s even a vintage sewing machine at the bar, which is a unique piece of decor.
Elsa has a long list of spirits for you to choose from. It’s great because you can order precisely what you want. If you’re anything like me, the cocktail list is the first place you’ll look. They have a handful of unique cocktails that are worth trying. I gave their two blind sisters and the frozen painkiller a try. They didn’t disappoint at all.
The Binc

You’ll find The Binc a minute away from the Brooklyn War Memorial on Henry Street. This classy joint is somewhat of a speakeasy and is the perfect place to enjoy drinks with a friend or to go on a date. It has a romantic atmosphere that prompts intimate conversations over drinks and small plates.
The drink menu at this bar is a decent size. They have a full bar, cocktail list, a handful of craft beer, and an impressive wine selection. I was immediately intrigued by the maple old-fashioned. If you love trying new things, you’ll love giving the bartender your spirit choice and flavor profile because they’ll create something unique for you.

Less than a mile from pier six is Floyd. This bar is a lively spot to enjoy drinks, dance, and play bocce ball. The bar is filled with vintage furniture, friendly patrons and staff, and plenty of drinks to go around. The atmosphere is one of the best I’ve found, and it’s easy to feel right at home here.
They have everything you could want to drink here. They have an excellent selection of whiskey and bourbon, which even the pickiest bourbon drinkers will love. Their draft selection was pretty impressive, so I went with a locally crafted IPA. I love that the bar has plenty of cheese and crackers to munch on while you drink and hang out with friends.
Le Boudoir

Right next to Floyd is Le Boudoir. This beautiful bar is modeled after Marie Antoinette’s chambers. That means dim lighting, vintage furniture, and plenty of gold accents throughout. Le Boudoir regularly has live jazz music playing, which helps set the mood the owners are striving to achieve.
The staff at Le Boudoir regularly recreate their cocktail menu. They have a full bar, so you can order virtually whatever you want, but checking out their cocktail menu is what most people do. One of their most popular cocktails is 1755. It’s served in a beautiful glass, and you feel elegant while sipping on it. My favorite was the white Russian.
The Long Island Bar

Despite the name, The Long Island Bar isn’t on Long Island. It’s on Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn Heights.
This corner bar has large neon signs with the bar’s name letting you know you’ve arrived. The bar has a retro feel, and it’s the perfect local watering hole. It even made the world’s best cocktail bar list in 2019.
The Long Island Bar offers 18 different wines, three beer choices, and plenty of craft cocktails. You can’t go wrong with a classic martini, Paloma, or a cognac French 75. The best thing about this local bar is that they’re also a restaurant, so you can grab a bite to eat while you’re here. I loved the deviled eggs as an appetizer while I sampled their cocktails.
Montero

On the corner of Hicks Street and Atlantic Avenue is the old-timey bar, Montero. It’s the epitome of a local watering hole. The decor is old-fashioned and has a somewhat nautical theme. There’s a pool table and plenty of tables and bar stools for you to plant yourself at. Even if you’re in town visiting, you’ll feel like a local at Montero.
They have wine, beer, and spirits here. They offer drink specials a few times a week, and they also host karaoke! When I popped into Montero, I decided to go with a simple cocktail, rum, and coke. It felt fitting for the atmosphere, and the prices were reasonably affordable for New York, in my opinion.

You’ll find the Henry Street Ale House near Cadman Plaza Park, on Henry Street. This classic ale house serves traditional drinks, beer, wine, and plenty of comforting bar food. There’s plenty of outside seating with umbrellas to shield you from the sun, and the interior has a wooden bar and mimics a classic Irish pub.
The Henry Street Ale House is an excellent spot if you’re a beer drinker. They have a large selection of beer on tap, many of which are locally brewed. The black duck porter is brewed in Greenpoint, New York, and was absolutely delicious. They also have plenty of canned options if you prefer beer in a can. You can’t go wrong with their nachos if you want a snack while enjoying your beer.

Down the street from Columbus Park is Custom House. While it’s a popular choice for the people of Brooklyn Heights to enjoy a drink, they’re very welcoming to tourists and love showing off their Brooklyn pride. There’s plenty of indoor seating, curbside seating, and a beautiful garden in the back.
Custom House has a large selection of local and imported beers, a long list of scotches and bourbon, and plenty of wine you can order by the glass or bottle. They also have a cocktail list if you prefer. I wanted to try one of their whiskeys, so the bartender suggested the Hudson Bay Bourbon Whiskey. It was perfect on the rocks before having a local beer.
Bohemien Bar

You’ll find Bohemien Bar on Atlantic Avenue amongst some of the other best bars in Brooklyn Heights. Unlike many of the other bars in the area, Bohemien Bar doesn’t feature exposed brick or dark wood features.
The bar is bright white with light wood floors and a stunning marble bar top. This bar plays the perfect mood music at a level that allows for listening and conversation at the same time.
Bohemien Bar offers craft beer, an organic cocktail list, and biodynamic wines. Depending on the time of year, they’ll provide seasonal cocktails at a special price. They have a unique cocktail list for December that features great holiday drinks. When I was there, I went with their One Love cocktail. It’s rum, passion fruit, coconut, pineapple, orange, and turmeric.
Someday Bar NYC

Someday Bar NYC is minutes away from the Eastville Comedy Club. You’ll know you’ve arrived when you see a black door and deep red paint on the outside.
The inside features exposed brick, a wood bar, and a bright neon sign that says someday above the bar. The bar is very cozy and is the perfect spot in Brooklyn for a drink.
They have an extensive beer and wine list and a full bar. The atmosphere in the bar made me think beer was going to be my drink of choice. I opted for the Brix City Heady Jams. It’s a hazy DIPA from New Jersey that hit the spot. If you’re hungry while enjoying a drink or two, their food menu is impressive and offers plenty of comfort food.
Colonie

Down the street from Adam Yauch Park is Colonie. This restaurant and bar serve traditional American cuisine and the perfect drink when you’re craving one.
The inside of the restaurant has exposed brick walls, wood floors and ceilings, and plenty of greenery to freshen up the place. Unlike some bars, this place is well lit via natural and artificial light.
Colonie has a detailed wine and cocktail list. They only serve two kinds of beer currently, but they’re both delicious. I opted to order from their cocktail menu. The watermelon chili margarita was unique and to die for. For those who love bourbon, what they call The Bourbon Drink is something you’ll want to try. It’s made with Buffalo Trace and other delicious ingredients.
Brooklyn Inn

If you love local watering holes, the Brooklyn Inn is a bar you’ll want to check out. While many places in Brooklyn are taking on more modern decorations and aesthetics, the Brooklyn Inn is considered an old-school establishment. It’s a cozy bar where you can play music on a jukebox and play pool while drinking.
Brooklyn Inn has a small selection of wine and beer but an even longer cocktail list. Even if you don’t like any of the cocktails listed, you can order pretty much anything you want since they have a fully stocked bar. I went with a local beer, Coney Island IPA, and I couldn’t pass up a $2 hotdog and chips.
Henry’s End

Henry’s End is at the end of Henry Street, minutes from Cadman Plaza Park. Henry’s End is a popular restaurant in Brooklyn Heights and has been for 48 years, but it’s also known for having some great drinks. The atmosphere is warm and makes for a great place to gather with friends for a cold beer.
Henry’s End has a fully stocked bar. They have a little bit of everything, and anyone can find a drink they like there. They have an extensive cocktail list, beer, and wine menu. You can order wine by the glass or by the bottle. If you’re a sangria fan, you’ll want to try both their red and white options.
Congress Bar

Less than a mile from pier six of the Brooklyn Bridge is Congress Bar. Back in the early Brookly days, the building where the bar is was a produce shop. In 2013, Congress Bar opened its doors and became a favorite amongst the locals. It’s an intimate place with dim lighting and plenty of history.
Congress Bar is famous for its cocktails and beer selection. They have classic options like an old-fashioned and black Manhattans. I saw the rosemary’s stepdaughter on the menu and knew I had to try it. It has honey gin, lemon, and rosemary. I love this bar because you can order a bartender’s choice. You pick your liquor, and they’ll choose a cocktail for you.
The beautiful neighborhood of Brooklyn Heights has plenty of local bars to keep you coming back for more. The nightlife and the bar scene here in Brooklyn Heights is always a great thing to experience when you’re in the neighborhood.
