Named for the late, larger-than-life founder, restaurateur, and friend to the stars, Arthur J left a hospitality legacy that his sons and grandchildren proudly carry on through excellent service and high-quality meals.
The Arthur J is a classic neighborhood steakhouse that uses a specially made wood-fired grill to cook all their cuts of beef. Talented grill master and head chef David LeFevre uses USDA Prime, Japanese 5A Wagyu, and Black Angus beef to create perfectly cooked steaks.
Chef LeFevre is a well-traveled and innovative chef who incorporates techniques and recipes from his travels into his menu. I recommend ordering fresh popovers or parker house rolls with your meal as they are truly something special.
Every night, there is a special cut of beef or fish at a discounted price. For example, Sunday’s special is Prime Rib French Dip while Wednesday’s special is Veal Parmesan. If you’re looking for a classic steak, try the dry-aged bone-in Kansas City Strip Steak, aged for 28 days for ultimate flavor and tenderness.
Alexander’s Steakhouse

Located in the well-known suburb of Pasadena, Alexander’s Steakhouse is a fine-dining steak and seafood restaurant that fuses classic American steak dishes with Japanese flavors.
Chefs use both USDA midwestern grass-fed beef and an assortment of different Wagyu a5 beef selections, including olive wagyu, which is one of the rarest kinds of beef in the world- and by rare, I mean both bloody and hard to come by. The interesting blend of umami, sweet, and sour flavors in sauces and marinades makes for a unique, vibrant tasting experience.
The menu at Alexander’s Steakhouse has both American and Japanese flavors, sauces, and dishes, so you can choose between the two cuisines or try something different for every course.
I recommend trying the Japanese flavors at Alexander’s, starting with the braised pork belly with dashi, bean sprouts, sea bean, and wasabi. For a one-of-a-kind experience, try the olive wagyu a5 from Sanuki, Japan with yuzu kosho chimichurri and a side of Korean fried cauliflower with gochujang, honey, and sesame.
Chi Spacca

Famous food critics and magazines across L.A. and the nation have deemed Chi Spacca one of the best, most innovative Italian steakhouses. Chi Spacca’s world-renowned team of co-owners and chefs include food network star Mario Batali, famed restaurateur Joe Bastianich, and Nancy Silverton, an L.A. legend in the Italian cuisine scene. Chi Spacca created its own dry cure program, meant to summon Italian salumi culture.
The small dimly lit dining room with candlelit tables is a romantic and cozy environment to enjoy some of the most beautifully plated and superbly tasting dishes in L.A.
Since they base their restaurant theme on salumi culture, you must try one of their cured meat charcuterie appetizers whether it be spiced salami with pane Bianco, fresh burrata, or Bistecca drippings and olive oil focaccia.
From the sea, I recommend the grilled octopus with pureed and fried Ceci or the whole branzino alla piastra with herb salad and charred lemon. If you want a special meat dish for the table, I recommend the Bistecca Fiorentina, a 50 oz dry-aged porterhouse.
CUT

Owned and operated by the world-famous chef and restaurateur Wolfgang Puck, CUT is a Michelin-star winning contemporary steakhouse, using cuts of beef and fish from around the world to create an impeccably curated menu. Located in the star-studded Beverly Hills neighborhood, CUT is a favorite for the rich and famous, but even they have to make reservations far in advance to get a coveted table at this world-class steakhouse.
I recommend the Wagyu sliders with caramelized onions, Swiss cheese, and truffle aioli as a fun starter. Of course, if you want the epitome of fine-dining plates, you can go with Russian caviar. Steak and lobster at CUT are meant to be shared along with a la carte sides.
I recommend the tomahawk steak made with American Wagyu and bleu cheese and caramelized onions for an ultra-rich topping. As for sides, I recommend the charred broccolini with red onion agrodolce and the tempura fried onion rings with truffle ranch.
Dear John’s

Dear John’s has a colorful and famous history that dates to 1962 when famous actor Johnny Harlowe decided to open a restaurant for friends and colleagues like Frank Sinatra and the rest of the Rat Pack right down the block from Sony Studios. Frank Sinatra became a Dear John’s regular, as did the rest of the Hollywood stars.
Even though Dear John’s eventually closed, current entrepreneurs Hans Rockenwagner and Josiah Citrin have restored Dear John’s to its classic cocktail bar and steakhouse glory, officially reopening the restaurant in April 2021.
The menu is as classic as they come with all the best cuts of steaks, lobster, and even original menu items that were said to be favorites of the Hollywood moguls that ate there in the ’60s. I recommend their crab bake with remoulade sauce or JLC’s bougie tots, tater tots topped with caviar, salmon roe crème Fraiche and chives.
For the main course, try the lobster thermidor or prime sirloin with bearnaise sauce with a side of creamed spinach and mashed potatoes. Whatever you order, the atmosphere is the real star of the show, transporting you back in time to the golden years of Hollywood.

An homage to their maternal grandmother’s cattle ranch back in Australia and the culmination of years of family collaboration, Gwen is a European-style butcher shop and fine-dining establishment founded and run by famed food network star Curtis Stone and his brother Luke Stone. The butcher shop offers the finest cuts of meat from around the globe, and the elegant fine-dining steakhouse uses fire-powered cooking methods to cook each cut to perfection.
They offer five-course menus, pre-theatre menus, and a regular formal dinner menu to accommodate their customers’ evening plans. I recommend starting with the 6-month aged Wagyu Bresaola followed by the 80-day aged bone-in ribeye with duck fat potatoes and slow-roasted cauliflower.

Mastro’s Steakhouse strives to create the most high-end classic steakhouse experience from excellent service to a strict coat and tie dress code. The over-the-top oil painting lined walls and
private dining coves make Mastro’s Steakhouse the epitome of the unapologetic bourgeoisie with a menu that spares no expense. If you want a red-carpet-worthy meal, then put on your nicest tux and ball gown and head to Mastro’s for dinner.
They offer the finest Wagyu cuts of beef along with amazing seafood main courses and appetizer options including sushi, sashimi, and seafood cocktails. I recommend trying the jalapeno tuna sashimi or oysters on the half shell to start.
The Wagyu Tomahawk chops are excellent, but I recommend sticking with fish and ordering the Chilean sea bass or blackened swordfish. Their wild mushroom and black truffle gnocchi and lobster mac n cheese are sides fit for kings.

Located in downtown L.A, Taylor’s Prime Steak House originated in 1953 as Taylor’s Tavern, a hopping downtown L.A. watering hole known as the “biggest little bar in Los Angeles.” It soon got too big to be a little bar and expanded its menu and concept to become Taylor’s Steak House, likewise relocating to a bigger location in 1970.
Taylor’s has remained an L.A. institution for more than sixty years, offering the finest prime certified Angus beef and high-quality classic seafood dishes to faithful clientele and newcomers alike.
The menu at Taylor’s offers classic American seafood and steak dishes with nightly specials at surprisingly affordable prices. Thursday’s special of braised short ribs with twice-baked potatoes and Caesar salad is under 30$. Their broiled steak selection features a USDA prime New York strip with crispy onions that is delicious, and their Texas-style chili uses filet mignon steak.

Located in the historic Taft Building in Hollywood, APL is a giant 143-seat restaurant with its own subterranean meat aging room.
APL offers a BBQ lunch menu that is a great casual dining option, converting into a more formal steakhouse and wine bar for the dinner crowd. Both lunch and dinner menus have a southern flair, offering delectable starters like sweet corn hush puppies with garlic chicken schmaltz aioli.
To take advantage of the subterranean aging room, I recommend trying the dry-aged beef carpaccio that has been aged for over 500 days. For the main course, I recommend the roast pork shoulder with herb and grape salad, pork bordelaise, and fennel pollen.
BOA Steakhouse

Located in the young and glamorous West Hollywood neighborhood, BOA is an equally glamorous modern American steakhouse with a beautiful high-ceilinged contemporary dining room and bar. Their menu puts a modern twist on the tried-and-true steakhouse classics with edgy, industrial-chic slabs and plating. The atmosphere is lively and bustling, making BOA a great happy hour spot and popular for younger fine-dining crowds.
The presentation is seductive and simple, letting the perfectly cooked slabs of meat or luscious butterflied lobster tails speak for themselves. I recommend trying their king crab legs to start, followed by a surf and turf duo of filet mignon topped with a buttery lobster tail. Try the crispy cauliflower tempura with golden raisin chutney, aioli, and cilantro as a side.

Argentinian food is world-famous for its parrilladas, or grilled meat, pork, and chicken that features some of the best quality beef in the western hemisphere.
Their menu features plenty of other classic Argentine favorites like beef and spinach empanadas and house-made pasta. I recommend trying the USDA prime ribeye with chimichurri glaze, but if you want to sample a real Argentinian mixed grill, I recommend getting the Parrillada Argentina for two with skirt steak, short rib, veal sweetbreads, blood sausage, and chorizo

Jar is a modern American chophouse that is not only famous for its superb steaks but also its beautiful interior that has been featured as the backdrop for various Hollywood blockbusters, the most recent of which was the Oscar-nominated film La La Land. Jar opened in 2001 and has garnered a faithful following with signature dish creations from Michelin-recognized chef Suzanne Tracht that include Pot roast and Black Mussels with Lobster Bearnaise.
There isn’t one item on Jar’s menu that I wouldn’t recommend, but our favorite starters are the crab-deviled eggs and roasted beets with burrata, cucumber, hazelnuts, and zaatar. Their signature pot roast is the entrée to get, but if you’re looking for another rich classic, try the Coq au Vin with red wine, smoked bacon, crimini mushrooms, and pearl onions.

The Palm serves a mix of classic American steaks and classic Italian dishes. I recommend trying one of their classic Italian pasta or seafood dishes. The seafood posillipo comes with 1.5 pounds of lobster, clams, and shrimp. The Ora King Salmon with Tuscan white beans and broccoli raab is classic Italian food at its finest.
