Chef Niki Nakayama serves kaiseki at n/naka. Kaiseki is a traditional Japanese cuisine that incorporates fresh seasonal ingredients and presents foods in near-natural variations.

The restaurant is located near the Westdale neighborhood and is open for early and late seating. Online reservations are recommended to be able to access seating.

The menus vary depending on the season. The modern kaiseki is thirteen courses and includes items like Modern Zukuri with hagatsuo, myoga, and coconut snow, and Otsukuri which is traditional sashimi.

I enjoyed the Niku with wagyu beef and baby corn. The restaurant offers a wine and sake pairing list as well.

Providence serves modern American seafood cuisine. Chef Michael Cimarusti uses sustainable ingredients from both local areas and international ports.

The restaurant has won a James Beard Award and was granted two Michelin stars. Providence is open Tuesday and Saturday for dinner.

The oysters on the half shell are a great way to start your meal and are served with a tarragon mignonette. The Chef’s Tasting Menu is incredible; my favorite bites were the Maine lobster and the black cod.

Other awesome plates included Wild King Salmon with pancetta and the smoky pecan gelato.

Pearl River Deli

Chef Johnny Lee operates the Pearl River Deli. The restaurant was included in 2021’s The Restaurant List, which discusses the most talked-about eateries in the country. Pea River Deli is planning to open a new location soon, so in the meantime, follow them on social media for pop-up menus and locations!

The Hainan chicken is a favorite in the community. It consists of poached chicken over rice and served with broth made from garlic, ginger, basil, lemongrass, and Thai ginger.

The menu changes often and has included dishes like Hong Kong-style soup noodles and Macau Pork Chop Bun. Also, try the Char Siu with Noodles; it is barbecue pork served with pan-fried egg noodles.

Republique Cafe

Republique Cafe is open for dinner between Tuesday and Saturday. The restaurant lives in a historic building, constructed in 1928 by Charlie Chaplin. Chefs Walter Manzke and Margarita Manzke operate the kitchen at Republique Cafe.

Both have long culinary histories; Charlie has worked in Michelin star establishments, and Margarita has won James Beard awards. They are indeed a culinary power couple!

My dinner was incredible. Start with the BlueFin Tuna Tartar, then try the Sonoma Duck Pate En Croute. I also enjoyed the Campanelle with lobster and the Red Wine Braised Beef Short Rib. The four-course plus dessert menu creates a curated dining experience.

Japanese food is my favorite, so I’m picky about East Asian cuisine. Hayato, however, has exceeded all of my expectations.

This Omakase-style restaurant is relatively upscale and only has seven seats, so you’ll have to get lucky to land a spot. 

The menu is decorated with traditional Japanese calligraphy, featuring delicacies such as satsuma sweet potato mitsu-bi and salted Japanese cucumber flowers. 

If you don’t know what any of those things are, don’t worry. It’s worth trying, especially with its two Michelin stars!

And because Hayato is right in Downtown Los Angeles, it’s a quick trip to the city’s best landmarks.

Langer’s Delicatessen-Restaurant

Langer’s Delicatessen and Restaurant was opened in 1947 by Al Langer. His son, Norm Langer, joined the team in 1963 and continues to operate the delicatessen today.

The restaurant is located west of Downtown and across from MacArthur Park. The deli is open between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm Monday through Saturday.

The classic hot pastrami sandwich is renowned and well worth trying, but the hot corned beef, sauerkraut, and swiss sandwich are equally delicious!

I also enjoyed the potato pancakes with sour cream and Matzo ball soup. For breakfast, try the tenderloin skirt steak and eggs.

Kuya Lord

Located right on star-studded Melrose Avenue—and close to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Griffith Observatory, Kuya Lord is the brainchild of chef Lord Maynard Llera.

This modern, elevated upgrade to fast-food features delicious Filipino fusion dishes—served family style, so there’s plenty to go around. 

The vibe is casual and laidback, so you can go straight from the beach. I highly recommend the Lechon Kawali (twice-cooked pork belly) as it’s soft, rich, and deliciously cooked.

There are ample vegetarian selections for the vegans in your group, and Chef Llera is constantly inventing new creations for his patrons to try out! 

This restaurant blends Filipino comfort food with modern, exotic tastes for its own flavor. 

Angelini Osteria

Angelini Osteria is a celebrated authentic Italian restaurant that has been open since 2001. Chef Gino Angelini grew up in Northern Italy and brought his passion for food to California.

The eatery is known for its signature dish, the Linguine Sea Urchin. Reservations are accepted online, and the restaurant is open for lunch and dinner daily.

I enjoyed the Red Beets & Burrata salad arugula, walnuts, and citrus dressing. The Pomodoro Penne is delicious, and I would also recommend a wood-fired pizza.

Other popular menu items include Spaghetti Alla Norma with eggplant, tomato, basil, and dried ricotta and the Whole Branzino served with potatoes and vegetables.

Girl & The Goat

Chef Stephanie Izard opened the LA location of Girl & The Goat in the summer of 2021. Located in the Arts District, the restaurant is open for dinner daily, with an additional brunch on Sundays. Girl & The Goat has an impeccable vibe with warm wood furnishings and potted plants from ceiling to floor.

For dinner, try the pan-roasted scallops with chili relish or the confit goat belly. I enjoyed the lamb sirloin skewer with yuzu-cilantro and the duck tartare with gochujang mayonnaise.

For brunch, I would recommend “the little piggy,” a cheddar scallion biscuit stuffed with Sichuan sausage, hoisin mayo, and a chili maple syrup. Notably, the roasted shishitos from the vegan menu are incredible!

Park’s BBQ

Open since 2003, Park’s BBQ, is a hip spot for delicious Korean BBQ. Chef Jenee Kim holds a degree in Culinary Science from Seoul Women’s College.

Park’s is a Koreatown community staple and serves USDA Prime and Kobe-style beef. The restaurant is open daily from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm.

Park’s BBQ is known for the Parks Gal-Bi, a prime beef Short Rib marinated in Park’s BBQ award-winning sauce. Other menu highlights include the RibEye Bulgogi and the Wagyu Boneless Beef Short Rib. I enjoyed the Beef Kimchi Dumpling Soup and the GGot Sal.

Jon & Vinny’s

Jon & Vinny’s is a popular Italian spot near the Melrose neighborhood. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day.

For breakfast, my favorite item is the Ricotta Bruschetta with orange blossom honey and sesame seeds. If visiting for lunch or dinner, definitely try the pizza–I enjoyed the White Lightning with mozzarella, ricotta, and pickled jalapeno.

Other menu favorites include Grandma’s Spaghetti, the Six Hour Bolognese, and the Mariana Braised Meatballs.

Chef Tom Colicchio opened Craft Los Angeles in 2007 after moving from New York. Craft uses seasonal and fresh ingredients in true California fashion. Reservations are available online. The restaurant is open for lunch, dinner, and happy hour in the Century City neighborhood.

The BBQ Duck Salad is incredible with spinach, peach, and shallots. The Seabass is a great entree option with quinoa, currant, and cucumber.

The Diver Scallops are succulent and delicious with sweet corn, cilantro, and lime. Notably, The Olvera Street cocktail with tequila and pineapple is excellent and is on the happy hour menu!

Chef Neal Fraser and Amy Knoll Fraser serve Modern American cuisine at Redbird. Wine Director, Matt Fosket, fills glasses with hand-selected wines from around the world.

The restaurant even won the “Award of Excellence” from Wine Spectator. Located downtown, Redbird is open for dinner nightly and brunch on the weekend.

The dinner menu includes a great squash soup appetizer. I enjoyed the California Sea Bass with gnocchi, mushrooms, leeks, and porcini mushrooms.

Try the New York Strip with broccolini. For brunch, the Shrimp & Grits is amazing with charred tomato sofrito. Also, try the Fried Egg Sandwich with bacon, harissa aioli, arugula, gruyere, and fries!

Sushi Gen

Open since 1980, Sushi Gen has been a staple of the downtown community. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner between Tuesday and Friday and for dinner on Saturday.

Sushi Gen wants guests to absorb the full dining experience, so delivery options are not available. Make a reservation online and visit this legendary establishment.

Kato is located near Alameda Square, near the Institute of Contemporary Art. This Michelin rated restaurant serves elevated Taiwanese food.

When you go to Kato, try the pork belly rice—a vibrant, filling dish that leaves you wanting leftovers.

With its smooth, velvety texture, the buttermilk yogurt dessert is to die for—delightfully creamy with a slight tang.

You can choose from five different incredible tasting menus. I opt for the alcohol-free flight since I’m not drinking, but each menu is as good as the next.

In 1989, Off Vine began serving California-style foods traditionally with specific regional influences.

With a calming and comforting atmosphere, it is easy to feel like you have escaped the hustle and bustle of Hollywood while dining in Off Vine. The restaurant is open for lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch.

Chicken Piccata is one of my favorite meals, and at Off Vine, the dish is heightened by the restaurant’s signature citrus and caper sauce. I’d also recommend the Pecan-Encrusted Chicken with pear-rosemary sauce. Other menu favorites include the Sauteed Atlantic Salmon and the Steak & Eggs Benedict, served during brunch.

Holbox is a restaurant-turned-food truck in the Mercado la Paloma, one of the city’s most creative, artistic districts.

The food truck serves delicious Mexican and Central American dishes, from several ceviches to Pata de Mula.

I love scallops, so I tend to gravitate towards the Aguachille de Scallop—an incredible seafood dish with a marinade I have tried (and failed) to replicate at home. 

This Michelin-rated experience is a must when visiting Los Angeles, but remember that you’ll be paying restaurant prices—worth it, in my opinion.

Bestia offers contemporary design in an industrial space and serves traditional Italian cuisine. Bestia is Italian for “Beast,” so the restaurant’s themed decor imposes a strong and whimsical vibe.

Bestia’s owners, Ori Menashe and Genevieve Gergis, a culinary power couple, recently published a cookbook named after the restaurant.

The menu is exciting with many Italian dishes. Try the Roasted Marrow Bone with spinach gnocchetti, breadcrumbs, and aged balsamic. Also, the Sage & Mortadella pizza is a crowd favorite.

I enjoyed the Cavatelli alla Norcina with ricotta dumplings, black truffles, and sausage. For dessert, sample the Warm Pear Ricotta Tart.

It can be hard to find great French food in America, let alone French fusion, but Camphor is the exception. 

Camphor is located near all your favorite museums in LA’s hot art district. It boasts French-South Asian fusion, which is to die for. 

It’s a bistro-style atmosphere, relatively upscale but still casual. 

I love the seafood—especially the trout and scallops—and the perfectly seasoned dishes. 

I recommend making a reservation, as this French restaurant is becoming increasingly popular amongst the foodies of LA and beyond.

Maccheroni Republic

For a neighborhood spot with Italian comfort food, visit the Maccheroni Republic. The restaurant is open for both lunch and dinner every day and offers a bring-your-own wine option. Located near the Historic Core district, Maccheroni Republic has beautiful outdoor dining for temperate days.

The housemade pasta is the star of the menu. Try the Rigatoni Pom’more with a creamy tomato sauce topped with burrata. I enjoyed the lasagne and the tortellini alfredo.

Be sure to save room for desserts because the cannoli, tiramisu, and panna cotta are all delicious. Vegetarian and gluten-free options are also available.

Damian is a Mexican-style restaurant located in LA’s art district. 

It’s located on the Los Angeles River and boasts an upscale vibe with accessible prices. 

Damian serves incredible food—including duck carnitas, fish tartare tostadas, and fish tempura tacos.

I always order the Lobster Al Pastor with pineapple butter, a unique dish that tastes delicately every time.

But the best part of this restaurant is the cocktails. The bartenders at Damian infuse their cocktails with herbs and elixirs, producing gems like the Kimchi Martini and the Ride or Die!

Felix Trattoria

I can’t give enough praise to Felix Trattoria. This cute Italian restaurant features homemade pasta—made right before you—and incredible cocktails.

The restaurant is the brainchild of Michelin chefs Evan Funke and Janet Zuccarini, who share a love for Italian food that is palpable in their dishes.

The ultra-rich food is made in the traditional Italian style, so it’s far from Americanized versions of traditional dishes.

I recommend any pasta dish and a waiter-selected bottle of wine. 

The atmosphere at Felix Trattoria is relatively upscale—though it’s a mere walking distance from Venice Beach.

Hatchet Hall

Hatchet Hall is less of a restaurant and more of an experience. 

This classy, experimental New American restaurant features lodge-like decor, gorgeous taxidermied animals, a secret bar, and incredible service.

The executive chef Wes Whitsell prides himself on creating delicacies inspired by his roots, earning the restaurant a Michelin star!

The collards and cornbread are amazing, but I prefer the potato skin gnocchi—a creative take on the classic dish.

This restaurant is right on Playa Del Rey, near the Santa Monica Pier, so you’ll have plenty to do in the surrounding area.

Toast Bakery Cafe

For breakfast, try the Smoked Salmon Platter with a toasted bagel, cream cheese, tomato, red onion, cucumber, and capers. Or, if you are interested in an egg-based dish, try the Huevos Rancheros with corn tortillas, black beans, two over-easy eggs, Ranchero sauce, and cheddar cheese.

The toasted sandwiches are a hit any time of day; I enjoyed the Jalapeno Chicken with grilled onions, eggplants, and a jalapeno spread.

Chi Spacca is open daily for dinner and offers indoor and outdoor seating. The restaurant serves new Italian dishes in a fun and upbeat setting.

Committed to sustainability, the restaurant uses fresh and seasonal ingredients to craft creative dishes. The burgers are so popular that the First Saturday of every month from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm is allocated for burger orders!

For dinner, try the Pepper Steak with bacon, green garlic, peppercorn, and chive. The Tuna Melt with aged white cheddar, oil-braised tuna, and garlic aioli is great!

The Roasted Cauliflower with crushed lemon is delightful. The Grilled Cheese aged white cheddar, yellow cheddar, pickled mustard seeds, and sourdough.

Leo’s Taco Truck

Although taco trucks may seem like a recent development, Leo’s has been around for ten years—for a good reason.

Leo’s operates nine trucks around Los Angeles, but I prefer the one on La Brea Avenue for its proximity to Venice Boulevard.

Leo’s has an uncomplicated menu—but they go above and beyond with creative seasonings. My favorite dishes are the Asada Fries and their wide varieties of tacos (especially Tacos Al Pastor.)

Leo’s is a great place to head for a quick bite if you’re sightseeing around Venice, and the portions are so significant you’ll have plenty to take home.

Yang’s Kitchen

I’ve been to Yang’s so many times —and I’m proud to be a frequent flier.

Yang’s is one of the area’s best Chinese fusion hot stops. This quaint Asian spot offers upscale food in a simple, Zen setting.

I love the smoked salmon hash. It was unlike anything else I’ve had in Los Angeles. The mochi pancake is a great way to round out your meal. 

Yang’s Kitchen is located in Alhambra between Pasadena and Monterey Park. It’s the best place to stop if you’re headed to the Huntington Library or the University of Los Angeles.

Kali is a community establishment near Hollywood and the Larchmont neighborhood.

Kevin Meehan and Drew Langley own and operate Kali and have constructed a restaurant with a casual vibe and a fine dining experience. Kali is a Michelin star restaurant and offers many specials for guests to enjoy.

The Caramelized Local Black Cod with charred cabbage, golden oyster, and mushroom is my favorite dish. Also, try the Local Prawn Crudo with citrus, shiso, and seaweed. The Kushi Oysters are a tasty starter. The Chef’s Menu includes eight courses where guests can experience the full range of the chef’s skills.

This Southern Thai restaurant offers delicious Thai food inspired by Nakhon Si Thammarat, where the owner was born and raised. It’s located near the Griffith Observation and the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

With over 300 dishes on the menu, Jitlada offers authentic, heavily-spiced Thai dishes, but my favorite is the turmeric-yellow fried sea bass, made with fresh seafood and creative seasonings.

Jiltada is couched in a small strip mall in Thai Town, and it’s LA’s best-kept secret.

Water Grill

The Water Grill is located in Downtown Los Angeles. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner daily and serves an assortment of seafood. Johnathan Moulton is the executive chef; his specialty is the Wild California Spiny Lobster. Definitely don’t skip on the sushi; it is incredibly fresh!

For an appetizer, try the clam chowder. The King Salmon Roll with salmon, avocado, hazelnuts, papaya, and a white soy lime vinaigrette is my favorite sushi roll on the menu.

Also, try the New England Lobster Roll! The bottle of the Gainey Saviongon Blanc from Santa Barbara is a superb pairing with most of the seafood dishes on the menu.

Home Restaurant

Aram and Rose Serobian have been serving up comfort dishes at Home Restaurant for more than twenty years. The restaurant was a 2019 OpenTable Diner’s Choice selection. Home is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day—the restaurant offers a plant-based menu and a happy hour menu.

Try the Crab Benedict with a crab cake, sautéed spinach, roasted bell pepper, poached eggs, and hollandaise sauce for breakfast.

During lunch, the blackened ahi tuna burger with tomato, avocado, and basil aioli on a brioche bun is a filling option. For dinner, I enjoyed the Jerk Pork Chop with garlic mashed potato with grilled pineapple.

Chang Hwa Dang (CHD)

Chang Hwa Dang (CHD) offers dumplings and dumpling soups. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner between Monday and Saturday. CHD is located in Koreatown and serves incredible traditional dishes. The restaurant offers dumpling samplers, so you can enjoy a variety of excellent bites!

Try the dumplings – the steamed pork and the jalapeno mandu are both incredible. The Kimchi and Bacon Fried Rice is a great entree. I also enjoyed the Bulgogi & Rice.

The Spicy Cold Noodle is a refreshing dish for a warm day. Also, enjoy frozen dumplings that you can purchase, take home, and enjoy later.

Ronan is an upscale, modern pizzeria on the bustling Melrose Avenue.

This seasonal restaurant is operated by award-winning chef Daniel Cutler and his wife, Caitlin. They prioritize local produce and ethically raised meats. 

Ronan is known for their pizzas—and they do not disappoint. My favorite is the Brooklyn-style pizza, combining shaved mushrooms, parmesan, red pepper flakes, and oregano.

Consider heading there for “Women in Wine Wednesdays,” when all wine bottles from female growers are 30% off throughout the evening. And since you’re saving on wine, consider trying the sea bass—the most expensive dish on the menu (but I promise, it’s worth every penny).

Bari is named for a port city in Puglia. It is located in Los Angeles’ Beverly Grove community. Like many farmhouse villas in Puglia, the restaurant’s stone archway invites guests to travel via cuisine with Italian wines, pasta, and skewered meats. The restaurant is open daily for dinner.

The Focaccia bread was delicious, and I enjoyed the addition of tomatoes. The Barramundi skewer with salsa verde was a delicious meat skewer.

Also, the orecchiette pasta with broccoli rabe, anchovies, and chili was my favorite bite of the meal. I’d also recommend the tuna stuffed cherry peppers!

Brent’s Deli Northridge

Brent’s Deli Northridge opened in 1967 to offer delicatessen-style foods to the Los Angeles area. With vintage window signage, the vibe of the restaurant is familiar and familial. Ron Peskin initially purchased the restaurant with his wife, and now, his son – Brent – owns and operates the deli.

I enjoyed the Whitefish Plate served with a bagel and cream cheese and the Deli Omelet with pastrami and corned beef for breakfast. The lunch and dinner menus are filled with yummy options, too.

I head here time and time again for the homemade ice cream and lamb kebabs—but many people praise the fresh pasta and chicken tandoori. 

This laid-back restaurant keeps sports on TV so you can watch your favorite game while enjoying your creative eats.

Pijja Palace is located between Echo Park and Silver Lake, so it’s slightly further from Downtown than most—but it’s well worth the trip.

Bavel is named after the biblical story of the Tower of Babel. Located in the Downtown Arts District, the restaurant is a great dinner location and even has a cookbook by the same name.

The Middle Eastern restaurant is open daily from 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm. Chefs Ori Menashe and Genevieve Gergis serve an array of fresh ingredients cooked in traditional styles.

Begin your meal with the grilled prawns served with harissa marinade, cured zucchini, and cucumber tzatziki. The slow-roasted lamb shawarma with tahini, ajika, and pickled vegetables is a delicious entree.

For dessert, try the pear spice cake with brown butter. The Tashe cocktail was delightful; the bartender mixed it with gin, strawberry, brandy, and sweet vermouth.

Asanebo is a gourmet Japanese restaurant. Chef Tetsuya Nakao relocated to California in the 1980s and opened Asanebo in 1991. The restaurant has earned two Michelin stars since its opening. The restaurant opens every day at 5:30 pm and 11:00 pm.

The sushi is terrific. I would recommend the Yellowtail & Scallion Roll and the Spicy Tuna Roll.

Additional pieces are served in portions of two and include Yellowtail, Wagyu, Red Snapper, and Octopus options. I also enjoyed the Sea Bass Miso Soup and the Brussel Scallop salad with fresh truffle.

This Oaxacan Mexican eatery is located near Koreatown, so it’s the perfect stop after a day of perusing the shops.

Guelaguetza serves traditional Oaxacan food at affordable prices in a humble, casual setting. They have a live band most nights and a gorgeous outdoor patio.

I always order the Chalupas, but when I feel risky, I’ll go for the Chapulines a la Mexicana—sautéed grasshoppers with jalapeños and onions. It sounds crazy, but it’s absolutely delicious and definitely worth trying.

Located in Old Chinatown, the Angry Egret Dinette is a classic restaurant serving warming meals. The restaurant is open Tuesday through Sunday. Chef Wes Avila describes the restaurant as a fast-casual eatery and enjoys the recognition as a neighborhood joint. It is regular on lists for the best burritos in town!

I enjoyed the Beef Shank Burrito with braised beef shank, cilantro, onion, arbol salsa, and Mexican rice. Other popular menu items include Honey Chipotle Shrimp Torta and the Cubano sandwich.

The dinette also serves espresso-based beverages, so you can pair a latte with a burrito and start your day off full and energized.

Although Los Angeles has a lot of great Korean food, Soban takes the cake.

This casual Korean restaurant serves contemporary versions of traditional Korean dishes. 

Celebrated chef Jennifer Pak, a former MGM Hotel chef in the heart of bustling Koreatown, runs Soban. Soban has been recommended by a Michelin Guide and has won several prizes for their food.

I love the galbi jjim, a braised short rib dish that always impresses me. If I want something lighter, I’ll get the braised black cod fish with radish or the seasoned soybean paste stew. 

Soban has excellent service, so you can count on the waitstaff to answer your questions.

Aroma Coffee & Tea

Aroma Coffee & Tea is located near Woodbridge Park, and the cafe is open daily beginning at 7:00 am. The backyard patio seating is a quiet place to enjoy coffee or study.

The cafe offers various gluten-free and vegan options as well, so everyone feels welcome. Keep your eyes peeled for the signature red outdoor umbrellas to know you’ve made it to Aroma.

In addition to many types of coffee and tea, the menu offers other tasty options like the Carnitas Benedict with slow-cooked carnitas, peppers, onions, and two poached eggs on toasted ciabatta topped with Santa Fe hollandaise sauce.

I enjoyed the Brioche French Toast with strawberries and bananas. The Grilled Tuna Melt is a great lunch option.

Broad Street Oyster Company

With a hip vibe, Broad Street Oyster Company offers fresh seafood in a casual setting. Opened by Christopher Tompkins, the company has become a fixture in Malibu. Christopher recommends ordering a beer and the lobster roll. The restaurant is open every day between 11:30 and 8:00 pm.

Start with the Oysters Rockefeller, baked with spinach, garlic, and breadcrumbs, or the Snapper Ceviche with avocado, cucumber, Fresno chili, red onion, lime, and plantains.

Then try the Fried Fish Sando made with fried halibut, tartar, pickles, lettuce, coleslaw, and Fresno chili. I also enjoyed the Baja Tacos. For that beer Christopher mentioned, try the Pizza Port IPA!

Cassell’s Hamburgers

In 1948, Al Cassell started Cassell’s Hamburgers as a lunch counter eatery in Los Angeles. He was grinding fresh beef daily and making in-house mayonnaise, intending to create the perfect burger.

Cassell’s Hamburgers is currently located in the Hotel Normandie, and the menu has expanded. The restaurant is open daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Try the B’fast burger with a crisp hash brown, avocado, a fried egg, and spicy mayo for breakfast. Patty Melt is king for lunch or dinner with a house-ground premium beef patty, swiss cheese, and grilled onions on toasted rye.

For a make-it-yourself experience, the burger add-ons, like chile con carne, are fun. I really enjoyed the onion rings!

Cafe Gratitude is a plant-based eatery serving multiple neighborhoods around Los Angeles, from the Arts District to Newport Beach. Most locations are open daily from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm. All locations are built with an airly open space to allow lots of light to permeate the dining area.

The “I am Festive” plate with corn chips, salsa Roja, cashew crema, mushroom carnitas, and sautéed kale is an often-ordered menu item.

I tried the “I am Light” – a latte, and the “I am Open-Hearted” buckwheat pancakes with bananas and berries. The “I am Active” green juice was very good with cucumber and ginger.

Alcove offers modernized variations of American classics using fresh and local ingredients. The restaurant is open daily at 9:00 am, with breakfast available all day. Alcove resides in two of the oldest houses in Los Feliz, built respectively in 1916 and 1897. The owners converted the space in 2003 to hold the restaurant.

The Lemon Ricotta Pancakes with pecan butter and maple syrup is delicious. I also enjoyed the Smoked Salmon Breakfast stack with potato pancakes and crème fraîche.

I would also recommend the Breakfast Burrito with rosemary potatoes. The Blackened Salmon Tacos and the Steak Salad are nice savory options for lunch or dinner.

Anajak Thai Cuisine

For nearly forty years, Anajak has been serving Thai Cuisine to the Sherman Oaks neighborhood. A family-run establishment, the father and son team take pride in offering traditional Thai cuisine.

The restaurant is open for dinner between Tuesday and Sunday. Stop by on Thai Taco Tuesday for innovative fusion dishes!

Start with the pineapple-glazed pork ribs, then try the Panang curry with shrimp. Other delicious dishes include the spicy drunken noodles, grilled whole dry-aged fish, and the grilled Bangkok shrimp. My favorite Thai meal is shrimp pad thai, and Anajak delivers a high-quality dish!

Making the best taco in Los Angeles is hard, but this restaurant wins. 

Villa’s Tacos is a delicious, small pop-up shop in Highland Park. It’s in a traditional Central American neighborhood near the Southwest Museum of the American Indian.

Villa’s serves tacos—the best you’ll ever have—in a humble, outdoor setting. The “restaurant” is just some grills under a tent, but it’s the perfect option for a beautiful California day. 

I always recommend the grilled chorizo with pineapple and onion—but anything from Villa’s will leave your taste buds crying out for more!

Mini Kabob sounds precisely like a tiny, adorable kebob restaurant in a no-frills setting in Glendale.

Mini Kabob serves traditional Armenian food made from scratch, and the restaurant is family-owned, so you can feel the love and care in every bite.

Armenian food is much like the traditional Mediterranean, with hummus, tabouleh, and lots of eggplant and rice.

In addition to these dishes, Mini Kabob also offers less common dishes like Mast-oo-Khiar (a creamy hummus-like dish) and eggplant caviar.

Mini Kabob also does catering and delivery, so consider them for your next event!
