Advertised as a Cafe and Hangout, Happy Gillis is a cozy spot where locals like to sit back and enjoy a bite over a laidback conversation. With delicate dining options alongside some of your favorite brunch beverages, you’re sure to find a satisfying brunch destination at Happy Gillis. Dive into a hearty plate of biscuits and gravy made with broadway butcher sausage to taste a classic dish with a local spin. If you’re more of a lighter brunch diner, try the Salmon Toast, a piece of open-faced toast topped with salmon, greek yogurt, arugula, Italian salsa verde, and a soft poached egg.
On the upscale end of the spectrum, Westport Cafe offers some of the finest cocktails in the area and provides a bistro-style menu. This modern French Cafe is a popular stop for locals, which means you may want to reserve a table before arriving for brunch. Start your brunch dining experience at Westport Cafe with a classic mimosa made with sparkling wine. Continue your Westport experience by ordering an Apple Beignet hors d’Oeuvre, then finish with the Quiche Lorraine, a decadent dish made with onion, bacon, and Gruyere cheese.
While beer is the star of the show at Beer Kitchen, we are grateful that beer isn’t the only thing they serve. You Say Tomato
You Say Tomato isn’t your typical brunch dining spot. Currently open Wednesday to Friday from 11 am to 2 pm and Saturday from 8 am to 2 pm, this quaint restaurant specializes in carry-out dinners and offers a daily menu. A unique menu offering is the Roasted Eggplant Sammy; roasted eggplant, GA tomatoes, fresh basil, herby goat cheese, and balsamic vinegar on a French roll. This menu offering is sure to make your taste buds shout for joy.
If the name doesn’t give it away, the menu options will. The Farmhouse is a Kansas City restaurant passionate about sourcing ingredients from local farms. Open from Wednesday to Sunday, this restaurant is a breath of fresh air, and you can feel good about the gourmet food you consume here. Brunch is served every day the restaurant is open, with Saturdays and Sundays being a popular option. Therefore, you may want to make reservations in advance. Weekend brunch takes your taste buds on a decadent adventure as the Barham Steak and Eggs is composed of family farm-raised beef, with chimichurri, blue cheese butter, pickled onions, two eggs, and potato hash.
Blue Bird Bistro
Blue Bird Bistro is an organic, all-natural bistro that offers sustainable and locally sourced foods. Offering Mid-American Artisan Cuisine, your dining experience at Blue Bird Bistro will leave you feeling happy, full, and healthy. While the brunch menu options are plentiful, I always order the Morning After sandwich. This sandwich consists of house-made crumbled KC Buffalo Farm bison sausage, organic onion, cheese, jalapeno, mushroom, and Campo Lindo Farm eggs, scrambled together and served between French toast.

Denver Biscuit Company
While its origins began in Denver, the Denver Biscuit Company has a Kansas City location that is a local favorite. The homestyle cooking and specialty biscuits keep locals full and happy with various biscuit options on the menu. House-made pickles, house-made gravy, and house-made honey butter create a platform for a hearty and one-of-a-kind dining experience. The extensive biscuit selections on the menu make it tough to choose a starting point.
