Pizza is one of the most popular foods in the world, and people have taken their love for pizza to incredible lengths.

Pizza lovers worldwide belong to two camps: those who love to eat it and those who love to make it. Personally, I love making pizza and eating it.
The latter group has always been a bit more intense as they fight for the world record for the largest pizza ever made. Here’s everything you need to know about these tasty records.
Who Holds the Record for Largest Pizza?
The record for the world’s largest pizza ever made has just been updated! YouTuber Airrack, Eric Decker, created the new record for the biggest pizza ever on January 19, 2023.
The pizza was just under 14,000 square feet large.
Airrack’s pizza was made with 13,653 pounds of pizza dough, 4,948 pounds of marinara sauce, 8,800 pounds of cheese and over 600,000 pepperonis.
Pizza Hut supplied the ingredients for the project. It created 68,000 slices of pizza.
How Did They Cook the World’s Largest Pizza?
This massive pizza was laid out with several sheets of dough. They used a fire hose to spray sauce, and at one point Airrack zip lined over the pizza to sprinkle it with cheese.
He also used a “pizza zamboni” with several over heaters to roll over the pizza and cook it. It took 48 hours to complete this record breaking pizza!
More Massive Pizzas
Here are some more massive pizzas:
The Former Largest Pizza
Prior to 2023, the largest pizza ever made was made in Rome, Italy.
The pizza was over 13,000 square feet! It was prepared by a team of 23 people, who worked for over 8 hours to prepare it.
In 2012, this awe-inspiring pizza was created by Marco Nardi, Andrea Mannocchi, Dovilio Nardi, Matteo Giannotte, and Matteo Nardi.
The former record-holding pizza had a total surface area of 1,261.65 m² (13,580.28 ft²) and weighed over 5 tons.
It was prepared on approximately 20 square meters of wood paneling and took over 8 hours to prepare.
The ingredients included the following:
- 2 tons of mozzarella cheese (1 ton of fresh mozzarella and 1 ton of smoked mozzarella)
- 1 ton of tomato sauce
- 1 ton of butter spread over the crust
This impressive feat was accomplished using an oven that could hold two tons of dough and contained two gas burners connected to four propane tanks.
The dough was made from gluten-free flour from the Rieti region of Italy, and it took one day to prepare before the baking process began.
World’s Longest Pizza
The world’s longest pizza was created by a group in Fontana, California in 2017.
The team was made up of over 100 people from Pizzaovens.com, Venice Bakery, Orlando Foods, At-Pac, Sysco, TFX Non Stick, Capstone Scaffold Services, Scaffold Works, SoCal Gas, Tony Gemignani, Giulio Adriani, John Arena, and Italforni.
The pizza was made with over 17,700 pounds of dough, 5000 pounds of tomato sauce, and 3900 pounds of mozzarella.
It took 54 hours to create this pizza, after which all of it was donated to local charities.
Big Mama’s and Papa’s Pizzeria
I love Big Mama’s and Papa’s Pizzeria! I’ve been going there for as long as I can remember.
The food is delicious, the service is excellent, the atmosphere is fun, and, true to the name, they have some massive pizzas.
They have several pizzas and high-quality toppings, including pepperoni, sausage, mushroom, and more.
What lands them on this list is their famous Giant Sicilian pizza, this cheesy giant is a whopping 54″ x 54″.
This impressive size is enough to make it stand out, but the 1.4 square meters worth of pizza is also available for delivery. It’s no world record, but it’s larger than your usual XL pizza order!
Whether you’re a pizza enthusiast or a part-time slice enjoyer, there’s no way you won’t be impressed by these record-breaking pizzas.
The largest pizza ever made was over 13,900 square feet, so I’ll keep an eye out for whoever dares to break this record again.
