Double Zero, like all other Matthew Kenny restaurants, puts a plant-based and healthy twist on pizza.
Double Zero creates unique wood-fired thin-crust pizzas using scratch-made tree-nut cheeses, organic vegetables, and plant-based meat.
Their flagship location is in New York City, but Double Zero has lovely sit-down eateries across the U.S, including Baltimore, Boston, and LA.
The menu features organic natural wines, antipasti, vegan pasta, and desserts. I loved the ruffle cashew cream pizza with wild mushrooms, baby kale, and lemon vinaigrette.

New York City is as famous for its pizza as Italy, so you can expect at least a few of the top vegan pizzerias in America to be New York natives.
With locations in Crown Heights and Greenpoint, Screamer’s Pizzeria is the height of New York-style authenticity with giant slices and white paper plates.
If it wasn’t for their marketing, you’d have no idea these pizzas were vegan.
They have both New York-style thin crust and Sicilian-style Grandma pies, which are deep dish, square-shaped pizzas.
My favorite is the Buffalo pie with tomato sauce, vegan cheese, buffalo cauliflower, almond ricotta dollops, ranch drizzle, and chives.

20th Street Pizza is a sister restaurant of Blackbird Pizzeria, a quaint vegan pizzeria and pub that spent 12 years as a Philly favorite.
While Blackbird Pizzeria was the original shop, 20th Street Pizza still serves their famous vegan pies after Blackbird closed in early 2022.
Their menu has inventive vegan pizzas, most made with cashew mozzarella or ricotta.
Their creative pizzas also feature other unique toppings including fresh seasonal vegetables and vegan sausage, 20th Street Pizza also serves up vegan salads, appetizers, and desserts.
We hope they follow in Blackbird Pizzeria’s footsteps and take on some of their famous vegan cheesesteaks and other vegan sandwiches in the future, but for now we’ll settle for top-notch vegan pizza.

Located in a cozy counter-service and eatery space in Seattle’s University District, Pi Vegan Pizzeria self-proclaims as America’s oldest vegan pizzeria.
I had no way to verify this, but I do believe it is the pioneer vegan pie restaurant in Seattle. They offer over-the-top specialty pizzas using unlikely toppings.
The vibe is funky and welcoming at this beloved pizza joint. They provide a large menu full of delicious salads, cheesy bread, and specialty pizzas that range from traditional to innovative.
One of their biggest sellers is the Magic Mac pizza with white garlic sauce, hose-made Mac-n-cheese, and Canadian bacon, all plant-based, of course!

I went for the Steve Caballero vegan pizza with vegan pepperoni, Italian sausage, peppers, onion, and tofu cheese.

Two Boots got its name from the boot-shaped geographies of both Italy and Louisiana, whose cuisines the founders honor on their funky and creative menu.
Founded in 1987 by indie filmmakers Doris Kornish and Phil Hartman, Two Boots is a Cajun-Italian fusion pizzeria with a family-friendly and festive atmosphere.
The flagship location is in New York City’s East Village, but they’ve expanded to various neighborhoods in NYC and Brooklyn, along with Jersey City, Nashville, and Smyrna.
I haven’t seen a more unique menu. They offer meat and vegan pizzas, all using their signature super-thin and crispy cornmeal crust.
I recommend the VCBGB with vegan chicken, broccoli, basil pesto, and dairy-free cheese.

Once a friendly Los Angeles pizzeria, The Pizza Plant has transformed into a popular vegan frozen pizza brand that you can find at grocery stores across the nation.
Founders Marvin Acuna and Ravi Choudhry are committed to using 100% organic ingredients in their line of fully vegan pizzas.
The Pizza Plant has a variety of scratch-made pizzas using the restaurant’s original recipes.
They are corn-free, dye-free, and GMO-free plant-based pizzas. I always have a few in my freezer for a rainy day.
I like their simple Salsiccia Italiano sausage pizza with Daiya dairy-free cheese, plant-based sausage, and tomato sauce.

However, you can opt for vegan renditions on pretty much any menu item. Since they are an Indian and Italian restaurant, they have interesting fusion pizzas.
I had never had anything quite like the Pav Bhaji pizza with mashed veggies, ginger, garlic, red onions, cilantro, lemon juice, and chutney.
It usually comes with mozzarella cheese, which I omitted to make it vegan.

Whether it’s Grandma-style or Detroit-style, they’ve got it on the menu, using owner Joe Musso’s famous sauce.
It’s by no means a vegan establishment, but they have wonderful vegan options. My favorite was the Eggplant Square with fried eggplant, crushed tomatoes, garlic, fresh basil, and extra virgin olive oil.
