A nice fruity cocktail is delicious all year round, but there’s something especially satisfying about sipping a Piña colada in the sun during summer.

While a Piña colada is a classic summer cocktail loved by most, there are actually tonnes of fantastic fruity cocktails out there you can choose from.

1. Piña Colada

Homemade Frozen Pina Colada Cocktail

A fruity classic, you can’t go wrong with a Piña colada.

You will need:

  • White rum (50 ml)
  • Pineapple juice (110 ml)
  • Coconut cream (60 ml)
  • Pineapple wedges for an added touch of summer (1 per drink)
  • Ice (1 cup)
  • Sling glass (optional – any glass of your choice will work too)
  • Blender (for best results)

How to make it (easy):

  • Step 1: fill your glass about ¾ full of ice
  • Step 2: pour in the white rum, pineapple juice and coconut cream and stir until combined
  • Step 3: garnish with a triangular piece of pineapple
  • Step 4: enjoy!

How to make it (blended):

  • Step 1: add the white rum, pineapple juice, coconut cream and ice to a blender and blend until you reach a smooth consistency
  • Step 2: pour the contents into a chilled glass and add your pineapple garnish
  • Step 3: drink up!

2. Raspberry Cosmopolitan

You will need:

  • Vodka of choice (50 ml)
  • Champagne (25 ml)
  • Lemon juice (30 ml)
  • Honey syrup (150 ml)
  • Raspberries (a handful)
  • Ice (1 cup)
  • Martini glass (optional)
  • Cocktail shaker

How to make it:

  • Step 1: crush the raspberries down to a pulp
  • Step 2: add the vodka, lemon juice, honey syrup and raspberries to a cocktail shaker with ice and shake
  • Step 3: strain the shaken ingredients into your glass of choice
  • Step 4: top with champagne
  • Step 5: enjoy!

3. Tequila Sunrise

You will need:

  • Tequila of choice (50 ml)
  • Triple sec (1 tbsp)
  • Grenadine (2 tsp)
  • Lemon juice (25 ml)
  • Orange juice (75 ml)
  • Cocktail cherry (1 per drink)
  • Ice (1 cup)
  • Cocktail shaker

How to make it:

  • Step 1: add the grenadine to your glass and set aside
  • Step 2: add the tequila, triple sec, orange and lemon juice to a cocktail shaker with ice and shake
  • Step 3: add two or three cubes of ice to the glass containing grenadine and strain into it the shaken ingredients
  • Step 4: garnish with a cocktail cherry
  • Step 5: and serve!

4. Raspberry Mojito

You will need:

  • White rum (50 ml)
  • Granulated sugar (1 tbsp)
  • Mint leaves
  • Raspberries (a handful)
  • 1 lime
  • Soda water (110 ml)
  • Ice (1 cup)
  • Muddler (or spoon)

How to make it:

  • Step 1: add sugar, raspberries and chopped lime to a glass and gently crush the raspberries and lime using a muddler or a spoon (a muddler will work best)
  • Step 2: slightly bruise the mint leaves by clapping them between your palms and add them to your glass
  • Step 3: add the ice to your glass followed by the white rum 
  • Step 4: top up with soda water and stir a little to combine
  • Step 5: garnish with lime around the edge of the cup sprinkled with sugar and enjoy!

5. Hurricane Cocktail

You will need:

  • White rum  (25 ml)
  • Dark rum (25 ml)
  • Sugar syrup (25 ml)
  • Grenadine (1 tsp)
  • 1 passion fruit
  • Orange juice (50 ml)
  • Lemon juice (50 ml)
  • 2 cocktail cherries
  • 1 orange slice
  • Ice (1 cup)
  • Cocktail shaker

How to make it:

  • Step 1: add the white rum, dark rum and ice
  • Step 2: scoop out the flesh and seeds from the passion fruit and add it to a cocktail shaker with the orange juice, lemon juice, sugar syrup and grenadine
  • Step 3: shake until the shaker becomes cold
  • Step 4: fill your glass with ice and strain the shaker mix. Then, garnish the orange and cocktail cherries on a cocktail stick
  • Step 5: Sip away!

6. Pear Martini

How to make it:

  • Step 1: add vodka, syrup and apple juice to the cocktail shaker with ice and shake

8. Lemon Basil Margarita

  • Triple sec (25 ml)

  • Sugar syrup (15 ml)
  • Ice (1 cup)
  • basil leaves to garnish
  • pinch of salt & sugar for glass rim
  • Cocktail shaker

How to make it:

  • Step 1: add the tequila, triple sec, lemon juice and sugar syrup to a cocktail shaker and shake until the shaker becomes cold to the touch
  • Step 2: strain the contents into a glass filled with ice
  • Step 3: coat the rim of the glass with sugar and salt and garnish with a basil leaf

9. Sea Breeze

  • Grapefruit juice (100 ml)

  • Step 2: pour in vodka and cranberry juice, then the grapefruit juice

How to make it:

  • Step 1: blend the strawberries and pour the purée through a sieve to remove the seeds
  • Step 2: pour the mixture back into the blender with ice and the rum and lime juice  and blend two more times until a smooth ‘slushy’ consistency is achieved
  • Step 3: pour it into a glass and garnish with half a strawberry and lime wedge using a cocktail stick and sip in the sun!

11. Blood Orange Sour

  • Lime juice (25 ml)
  • Sugar syrup (a dash)
  • Half a muddled blood orange
  • 1 blood orange slice to garnish

How to make it:

  • Step 1: into a cocktail shaker, add the muddled blood orange, gin, lemon and lime juice and a dash of sugar syrup with ice and shake well

  • Golden rum (50 ml)
  • Lime juice (50 ml)
  • Orange juice (50 ml)
  • Sugar syrup (25 ml)
  • Grenadine (10 ml)
  • Bitters (10 ml)
  • 1 slice of orange to garnish
  • 1 cocktail cherry to garnish
  • Ice (1 cup)

How to make it:
