Although it can’t be denied that Motor City has had its ups and downs throughout the years, it is a vibrant city with amazing art, music, and a professional sports scene.
There is also an incredible nightlife scene, with over a dozen rooftop bars in Detroit to visit when the weather is warm. Here you’ll be able to enjoy panoramic views of the city’s most beloved and historic buildings.
Whether you’re a Detroit native or a new resident in need of some local hangout spots, check out the following list of rooftop bars.
237 Jos Campau, Detroit, MI 48207
Atwater Brewery & Tap House has been a staple of Detroit’s nightlife scene since 1997. Located in the historic Rivertown district, the brewery is known for its German-style lagers and boutique ales. It’s an industrial space that fits in perfectly with the metro vibe of the city.
The Detroit location features a rooftop bar filled with picnic tables and string lights that give the outdoor space a nice but casual ambiance. Here you can enjoy a burger and beer or split a plate of poutine with your best friends.
1903 Grand River Ave, Detroit, MI 48226
Lumen is located in Detroit’s Beacon Park. It is a fantastic spot to enjoy modern American cuisine in a stylish building.
The rooftop bar is only a couple of floors high; however, if you’re lucky enough to snag one of the 45 seats available, you can experience 360-degree views of downtown Detroit.
The majority of the alcoholic beverages on the menu are beer-centric, but they do offer a selection of wine and signature cocktails.
Furthermore, the kitchen at Lumen serves delicious starters, burgers, seafood, and seasonal soups and salads. I recommend trying the Everything Bagel Wings and the Pork Milanese.
2208 Cass Ave, Detroit, MI 48201
Bookie’s Bar & Grille is a sports bar located on the corner of Cass Avenue and W Columbia Street. They offer daily specials, such as a bucket of Coronas at a lower price and a plethora of bar food.
I recommend the Mac & Cheese Bites or the Nacho Fries. Pair either meal with a frosty mug of your favorite beer.
Bookie’s outdoor terrace has great music and spectacular views of the city. It’s a popular spot on game days.
400 Renaissance Center #1404, Detroit, MI 48243
Joe Muer Seafood has been a Detroit staple for almost 100 years. During that time, they have become known for upscale seafood dining.
The restaurant has the city’s best raw bar, in addition to a top-notch sushi bar and an assortment of succulent steak and pork dishes.
In my opinion, Joe Muer Seafood is one of the best places in Detroit for unique cocktails, such as the Muer Mojito or the Southside of Detroit.
They also have an impressive selection of spirits, from gin and bourbon to cordials and sake. You can enjoy your drinks on the heated and covered rooftop patio.
535 Monroe St, Detroit, MI 48226
Level Two Bar & Rooftop is one of Detroit’s most happening nightclubs with scenic views from their rooftop bar.
Located in the heart of Greek Town, Level Two is a fantastic spot to enjoy drinks, apps, entrees, and live music at affordable rates.
Pair it with a deliciously prepared burger and the restaurant’s mouthwatering fresh-cut fries for a satisfying meal.
470 W Canfield St, Detroit, MI 48201
Motor City Brewing Works is Detroit’s oldest operating brewery. Located a short walk from Comerica Park and Ford Field, the MCBW was built from scrap and salvaged equipment by the city’s artists and craftsmen.
Outside is a large beer garden where you can sip beer with friends and enjoy the warm Michigan sunshine. There are a couple of must-try beers at MBCW for anyone who visits.
The Ghettoblaster Lager is an original Detroit-style beer that made the brewery famous. IPA fans will love The Notorious D.R.I.P.A, and citrus lovers should try the Motor City Summer Brew.
33 John R St Penthouse, Detroit, MI 48226
To experience the classic luxury of The Monarch Club, you will need to travel to the Metropolitan Building on John R Street and head up to the penthouse.
The sweeping view of Detroit’s glittering skyscrapers from this upscale rooftop bar will take your breath away.
Moreover, they have a beautiful stone patio featuring ample seating and several fire pits. This bar is truly a romantic gem.
The menu at The Monarch Club is extensive. In addition to beer and wine, they have a list of exclusive cocktails.
If you’re a bourbon fan, I highly recommend the ‘Round Midnight, whereas coffee lovers will probably enjoy their Stolen Moments cocktail.
349 Monroe St, Detroit, MI 48226
Seemingly every major city has an Irish pub, but none are as beloved as Detroit’s own The Old Shillelagh.
This bar serves locally sourced food and drink, a rotating selection of everyone’s favorite Michigan-made beers, and craft cocktails.
Drinks can be enjoyed while watching any of Detroit’s sports teams play on their 25 TVs. This Irish pub has three different floors, with live music and DJs who perform on the rooftop deck every weekend.
The rooftop deck is only open on the weekends, so be sure to stop by then if you want to check it out.
350 Madison St, Detroit, MI 48226
3Fifty Terrace is one of Detroit’s top nightclubs. It is located within walking distance of The Detroit Opera House, The Detroit Athletic Club, and several of the city’s major sports arenas.

2301 Woodward Ave, Detroit, MI 48201
You don’t have to be a Detroit native or a sports fan to be familiar with Hockeytown Cafe. This bar is a beloved institution that hosts Lions, Pistons, and Tigers fans on game days.
The space is filled with Detroit sports memorabilia, and it also has an outdoor patio where guests can enjoy a pre or post-game meal looking down on Woodward Avenue.
I love the build-your-own pizza options at Hockeytown Cafe, almost as much as the incredibly low prices for their domestic beers. They also serve wine, seltzers, and cocktails.
24600 Jefferson Ave, St Clair Shores, MI 48080
At Mike’s on the Water, you have access to gorgeous views of Lake St. Clair from their outdoor patio. The restaurant captures the rustic feel of a 1970s east coast burger bar with its dark wood floors, red leather booths, and nautical-themed decorations.
It is a casual spot that people from all over the country flock to. During my visit to Mike’s on the Water, I sat out on the rooftop deck and enjoyed the view of the boats on the water while sipping on an ice-cold draft beer.
The rooftop bar only serves a limited menu, but you can order a range of snack items to enjoy with your beer.
Alley Entrance, 100 S Main St Rear, Royal Oak, MI 48067
Just outside of Detroit is the city of Royal Oak, home of Pinky’s Rooftop. The bar is decorated in gorgeous vintage furniture and has a charmingly eclectic style.
The walls are a soft bubblegum pink color that contrasts with the black tables and chairs. There is also a beautiful floral mural in shades of pink and black that ties the space together.
Pinky’s Rooftop is a great place for after-work drinks or to celebrate a special occasion. They have beautiful craft cocktails and light dishes and snacks to enjoy while you drink.
If you’re ordering from the Rooftop menu, I recommend trying the vegan potstickers or the short rib wonton tacos.
For dessert, try their signature 3-foot tall cotton candy concoction called the Beauty School Dropout.
47 E Adams Ave St, Detroit, MI 48226
Tin Roof Detroit sits between Comerica Park and The Detroit Opera House. This is a live music spot that offers good food, good fun, and good drinks.
They are a large space, with multiple outdoor patios and a rooftop bar. The live music is a huge draw for this bar, as are the incredible food options.
I recommend the Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich paired with your favorite draft beer. The bar has daily Happy Hour specials, as well as daily food specials, including tacos on Tuesdays and Coney fries on Thursdays.
1454 Gratiot Ave, Detroit, MI 48207
For a more laid-back drinking and dining experience, I recommend you try out Collect Beer Bar. This family-owned beer bar offers a simple selection of nine rotating drafts as well as wine and ciders.
They have a nice outdoor space with picnic tables and small tables that overlooks Gratiot Avenue. The outdoor space is heated as well, so you can enjoy this space in the cooler months.
529 Monroe St, Detroit, MI 48226
Another popular Greektown bar is the Exodos Lounge. This rooftop bar and restaurant feature a nightclub, excellent Happy Hour specials, and spaces for private events and celebrations.
