At the Arizona state fair in 2005, Chestnut competed against his rival Sonya Thomas in a Waffle House eating contest, and he was finally able to defeat her. He ate 56 Krystal Burgers in 8 minutes.

Joey Chestnut’s career took a downward turn in 2006 when he lost Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating contest to Takeru Kobayashi a second time. Kobayashi also defeated Chestnut in the Johnsonville World Bratwurst Eating Championship.

Joey Chestnut finally won Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest in 2007, and he continued to hold that title for 14 non-consecutive years. He recently set a new record for the contest in 2021, and in 10 minutes, he ate 76 hot dogs and buns.
