Where to Get Vegan Food in San Antonio

Grab a plant-based meal at these local spots.

I know how hard it can be to find plant-based food options when visiting a new city. Even if you’ve lived in an area for years, finding vegan food near you can be quite a challenge. On my most recent trip to San Antonio, I made it my mission to find the best vegan-friendly and vegan restaurants in the San Antonio Area.

While San Antonio may be most known for its Tex-Mex, the vegan restaurant scene is booming. Keeping up with trends, and more people looking for healthier food options, it’s a smart move for restaurants to include vegan, vegetarian, and plant-based options for patrons.

With more and more people following vegetarian and vegan lifestyles, the restaurant industry has made it possible to get delicious vegan options that don’t compromise on flavor and texture. Whether you follow a plant-based diet or not, the restaurants on this list won’t disappoint.

On my search for the best vegan restaurants in San Antonio, I came across Viva Vegeria. This place blew me away! The restaurant’s goal is to “feed the masses”, all while educating the city on issues like “cultural preservation through food, healthy eating, urban gardening” and more. Check out their website for more on their mission.

If you end up dining at Viva Vegeria I would recommend trying the Chick’n Flautas (pictured above). The dish consists of deep fried tortillas, filled with Chick’n and drizzled with a chipotle sauce. Each entree also comes with a side of rice, salad and charro beans.

This spot has two locations in the San Antonio area, the Alamo Quarry Market location and Green at Alon. I stopped by the Alamo Quarry location for lunch while on my visit to San Antonio. Looking for a quick vegan bite to eat, this was the perfect spot.

This restaurant opened its doors in 2007 and offers non-vegan options as well. If you’re with a group, this would be a great spot for people with different dietary needs and preferences.

The weekly special when I stopped by caught my eye, a plant-based Poboy Sandwich. Be sure to stop by to check out their weekly specials.

Señor Veggie

620 S Presa St, San Antonio, TX 78210

Senor Veggie specializes in local, handcrafted vegan cuisine. Located in Southtown on Presa St, you can’t miss the bright orange building with a mural on the front.

On my visit, I tried a few different meals with my group of friends. We split the Cheeze con Macaroni; steamed broccoli, cashew cheese sauce, and almond parmesan. It was immaculate, *chefs kiss* delicious. For my main, I chose a sandwich, the Buffalo Tofu; crispy tofu, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and peppercorn ranch. They have many options including vegan pizzas, tacos, and more.

Pharm Table

611 S Presa St Suite 106, San Antonio, TX 78205

Visit Website

If you’re looking for a more upscale, sit-down dining experience, I would recommend Pharm Table, one of the best vegan restaurants in San Antonio. This cozy restaurant serves up organic, market-fresh food options and they have a bunch of vegan and paleo options as well!

I stopped by Pharm Table for dinner one night, it’s definitely a little more upscale than other restaurants I visited. Would be perfect for a date night or a nice place to take family and friends. We tried the Mushroom Ceviche Gravlax Board, a perfect snack for four.

Blissful Burgers

3950 S Zarzamora St, San Antonio, TX 78225
Phone: (210) 239-5830
Visit Website

Looking for a quick bite in San Antonio? You need to check out Blissful Burgers. This burger joint serves up amazing vegan burgers.

My friends and I all got a different burger and split them, that way we got to sample each variety. Out of the three options, I would say The Bhilly was my favorite; two thin Beyond Burgers, vegan provolone cheese, grilled mushrooms, grilled onions, and grilled red bell peppers. I may be biased though, with my Philly roots. If you’re looking for something a little more basic, The Classic was just as great.

Thai Vegan

15614 Huebner Rd #113, San Antonio, TX 78248
Phone: (210) 257-0090
Visit Website

Thai Vegan is another San Antonio staple, serving up delicious vegan options. This restaurant also serves meat dishes, so it’s great if you’re with a group who have different diets.

Located in an unassuming strip-mall, don’t be fooled by the location. Thai Vegan is serving up some of the best Thai food in the area. I had a chance to try the Pad Thai with tofu and will be coming back here on my next trip to The Alamo City.

The Cove

606 W Cypress St, San Antonio, TX 78212
Phone: (210) 227-2683

The Cove is another one of San Antonio’s great vegan restaurants to try for lunch. They have tons of food options and a good amount of vegan-friendly menu items. If you have kids, this is the place to go in San Antonio!

This quirky restaurant serves up organic, sustainable food. It even boasts a car wash and laundromat! If you find yourself at The Cove, be sure to try the Vegan Super Nachos, BBQ Vegan Delight or Vegan Bacon Cheeseburger.

Binge Kitchen

449 McCarty Rd, San Antonio, TX 78216

Binge Kitchen is another great spot if you’re looking for vegan food near San Antonio! They serve up classic, home-cooked, comfort food; many of their options are completely vegan.

Binge Kitchen has a few locations in Texas including Austin and San Marcos. If you stop by, be sure to try out the BBQ Chick’n Dinner (pretty inexpensive lunch special!) or the Smothered Chick’n + Gravy.

Tarka Indian Kitchen

427 TX-1604 Loop Ste 101, San Antonio, TX 78232
Phone: (210) 499-0982

Craving some Indian food? We checked out Tarka Indian Kitchen one night to try out their vegan options. With locations all over Southern Texas, you’ll be sure to find a restaurant near you.

Tarka serves up authentic Indian cuisine and has a bunch of vegan and vegetarian options available. My top recommendation would be Vegetable Samosas, Channa Masala, or, my personal favorite, the Madras Soup.

Thyme for Lunch

9390 Huebner Rd Suite 104, San Antonio, TX 78240
Phone: (210) 438-4963

Looking for vegan restaurants serving up delicious lunch and breakfast options? Look no further than Thyme for Lunch. This strip-mall restaurant serves up sandwiches, soups, salads and more.

Thyme for Lunch was opened up by husband and wife duo, Morgan and Anang, after a trip to South East Asia. They were inspired to open a restaurant that features healthy, fresh food. They have a menu dedicated to vegan and vegetarian options like Vegan French Toast, Vegan Aakuri.

Go Vegan San Antonio

14530 Roadrunner Way, San Antonio, TX 78249

Last, but certainly not least on our list, is Go Vegan. This restaurant is great because their entire menu is vegan, so you don’t have to worry about searching a large menu.

You can’t go wrong with trying one of their vegan sandwiches, like the Patty Melt or BBQ Burger Mac. They even have $5 Fridays where they serve up specials from 6-9pm.
