Indeed, Oklahoma City is known as the “Horse Show Capital of the World,” with more equine competitions and exhibitions than any other locale. It’s no wonder then that all the cowboys want to know where to get a steak in OKC.

Located in Downtown Oklahoma City, Mahogany Prime Steakhouse is open daily for dinner. The full window exterior adds a modern flair to a steakhouse serving creative cuisine. With excellent service, visiting the steakhouse for a date night or business lunch is a great option. 

I began my meal by sharing the Dynamite Shrimp with sweet chile and sriracha sauce. I ordered the filet mignon with a bearnaise sauce and a side of chive whipped potatoes for my entree. The seafood options are delicious; the pan-seared sea bass with a mango-vanilla beurre blanc sauce is incredible too.

Red PrimeSteak is a contemporary fine-dining restaurant that offers creative additions to classic steakhouse meals. The restaurant is located in the Buick Building, constructed in 1911, and is the epitome of urban beauty. The building is near the Bricktown entertainment district. The restaurant offers a prixe fixe menu starting at $65 and including a starter, entree, and dessert. 

Try the Baked Brie appetizer with maple truffle gastrique, coffee toasted almonds, chili marmalade, apples, fresh berries, and toast. The most popular entrees include the 16-ounce Grass-Fed New York Strip with chili-garlic broccolini and green chili macaroni and cheese, and the pan-seared sea scallops. 


Boulevard Steakhouse

Boulevard Steakhouse is open for dinner service daily. The restaurant opened in 1998, but the owner’s path to becoming a restaurateur began long before – Peter Holloway and his wife initially opened a small bakery, which has morphed into the Holloway Restaurant Group. It is open in Edmund, Oklahoma, a suburb of OKC. 

I would recommend starting your meal with the Lobster Bisque. Then, I ordered the New York Strip with the Garlic Bourbon au Poivre topping, and it was fantastic. The twice-baked potatoes and sauteed mushrooms were great family-style side dishes. If you are searching for something other than a steak, try the Pan Roasted Chicken served with a potato hash and wild mushroom demi-glace.


Cattleman’s Steakhouse

Originally opened in 1910 to serve food to working cowboys at the stockyards, Cattleman’s Steakhouse has expanded over the years. The restaurant runs inside Stockyard City near the OKC Rattlesnake Museum. The steakhouse opens at 6:00 am daily and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. 

For breakfast, try the Steak and Eggs with a side of grits, or on the weekend, enjoy the breakfast buffet. The Cattlemen’s Steak Burger, made with ground sirloin and served with mayonnaise, lettuce, tomato, and onion, is delicious for lunch. For dinner, order the Ribeye Steak, served with a salad, baked potato, and homemade rolls. 


Mickey Mantle’s Steakhouse

Mickey Mantle’s Steakhouse opened in the Bricktown neighborhood in 2000 and is named for the legendary baseball player. The Mantle family, Jim Ingram and Monte Hough run the steakhouse. While the steaks bring folks in the door, the expansive wine list – of more than 500 wine options – keeps people coming back for more. 

Start your meal with the Grilled Tequila Shrimp with a lime-cilantro sauce. My favorite entree is the Steak & Cake with a 5-ounce filet, 3-ounce crab cake, and a beurre blanc sauce. The fried okra is also delicious! From the wine list, I’d recommend the 2018 Fabre Montmayou “Gran Reserva” Malbec – it pairs well with a medium steak. 


Ranch Steakhouse

The Ranch Steakhouse is open nightly for dinner and specializes in offering a traditional steakhouse experience. With table linens and sharply dressed waitstaff, the restaurant offers a refined dining experience in OKC. The Ranch Steakhouse was listed in Business Insider’s The Best Steakhouses In America. 

The Shishito Peppers were a delicious appetizer, and the Heirloom Tomato & Burrata was very refreshing. The 24-ounce dry-aged porterhouse is outstanding and gigantic! Try your steak with the Roasted Garlic Compound Butter or the Cabernet Mushroom Sauce. Additionally, the Pasta Bolognese was delightful. 


Opus Prime

Opus Prime is a great place for group dining; the restaurant offers three separate dining rooms, the largest of which seats up to 49 people. Located in the Meadowcreek neighborhood and near the Roughtail Brewing Company, Opus Prime is the go-to spot for fine dining in the area and they offer different varieties of steak on their menu. 

The star of the steak menu is the 8-ounce Wagyu Filet Mignon. Another popular menu item is the Rack of Lamb served with peppercorn demi-glace. Add one or more delicious side options like glazed maple carrots, roasted corn, lobster macaroni and cheese, or parmesan risotto. 


LongHorn Steakhouse

A national treasure, the LongHorn Steakhouse has perfected the causal steakhouse dining experience. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner daily. The OKC LongHorn Steakhouse runs near John Kilpatrick Turnpike and Quail Springs Mall; whether you are traveling or shopping, stopping for a meal at LongHorn is an excellent option. 

One of the most popular menu items is Flo’s Filet, which is either 6-ounces or 9-ounces and is served with your choice of sides like mashed potatoes, asparagus, or rice pilaf. For lunch or a lighter dinner, my favorite is the 7-Pepper Sirloin Salad with crumbled blue cheese. The Cowboy Pork Chops are also a great choice if you are interested in something other than steak. 


Jamil’s Steakhouse OKC

Jamil’s Steakhouse is a family-owned steakhouse serving a fusion of southern comfort foods and Lebanese cuisine since 1964. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner. Jamil’s is located near the Oklahoma State Capitol building and is a common meeting place for lawmakers and local celebrities. 

Try one of the restaurant’s famous appetizers like the house-made tabouli, cabbage roll, or smoked bologna. Try the 16-ounce prime strip steak or the Sirloin & Fried Catfish surf and turf option for an entree. I would recommend the Teriyaki Chicken Breast with pineapple, teriyaki sauce, and rice if visiting for lunch. 


Final Thoughts

Oklahoma City is the capital of the state and a hotspot for cowboys to gather for competition. OKC is located centrally at the cross-section of multiple interstates, so visitors pass through the region regularly. The combination of hungry cowboys and lonesome visitors is perfect for a plethora of refined steakhouses to satiate the hungry of locals and travelers hungry. 

While Oklahoma is known for its beef, many steakhouses across the country are producing delicious dishes.
