Chef Niki Nakayama serves kaiseki at n/naka. Kaiseki is a traditional Japanese cuisine that incorporates fresh seasonal ingredients and presents foods in near-natural variations. The restaurant is located near the Westdale neighborhood and is open for early and late seating. Online reservations are recommended to be able to access seating.

The menus vary depending on the season. The modern kaiseki is thirteen courses and includes items like Modern Zukuri with hagatsuo, myoga, and coconut snow, and Otsukuri which is traditional sashimi. I enjoyed the Niku with wagyu beef and baby corn. The restaurant offers a wine and sake pairing list as well.


Providence

Providence serves modern American seafood cuisine. Chef Michael Cimarusti uses sustainable ingredients from both local areas and international ports. The restaurant has won a James Beard Award and was granted two Michelin stars. Providence is open Tuesday and Saturday for dinner.

The oysters on the half shell are a great way to start your meal and are served with a tarragon mignonette. The Chef’s Tasting Menu is incredible; my favorite bites were the Maine lobster and the black cod. Other awesome plates included Wild King Salmon with pancetta and the smoky pecan gelato.


Pearl River Deli

Chef Johnny Lee operates the Pearl River Deli. The restaurant was included in 2021’s The Restaurant List, which discusses the most talked-about eateries in the country. Pea River Deli is planning to open a new location soon, so in the meantime, follow them on social media for pop-up menus and locations!

The Hainan chicken is a favorite in the community. It consists of poached chicken over rice and served with broth made from garlic, ginger, basil, lemongrass, and Thai ginger. The menu changes often and has included dishes like Hong Kong-style soup noodles and Macau Pork Chop Bun. Also, try the Char Siu with Noodles; it is barbecue pork served with pan-fried egg noodles.


Republique Cafe

Republique Cafe is open for dinner between Tuesday and Saturday. The restaurant lives in a historic building, constructed in 1928 by Charlie Chaplin. Chefs Walter Manzke and Margarita Manzke operate the kitchen at Republique Cafe. Both have long culinary histories; Charlie has worked in Michelin star establishments, and Margarita has won James Beard awards. They are indeed a culinary power couple!

My dinner was incredible. Start with the BlueFin Tuna Tartar, then try the Sonoma Duck Pate En Croute. I also enjoyed the Campanelle with lobster and the Red Wine Braised Beef Short Rib. The four-course plus dessert menu creates a curated dining experience.


Langer’s Delicatessen-Restaurant

Langer’s Delicatessen and Restaurant was opened in 1947 by Al Langer. His son, Norm Langer, joined the team in 1963 and continues to operate the delicatessen today. The restaurant is located west of Downtown and across from MacArthur Park. The deli is open between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm Monday through Saturday.

The classic hot pastrami sandwich is renowned and well worth trying, but the hot corned beef, sauerkraut, and swiss sandwich are equally delicious! I also enjoyed the potato pancakes with sour cream and Matzo ball soup. For breakfast, try the tenderloin skirt steak and eggs.


Angelini Osteria

Angelini Osteria is a celebrated authentic Italian restaurant that has been open since 2001. Chef Gino Angelini grew up in Northern Italy and brought his passion for food to California. The eatery is known for its signature dish, the Linguine Sea Urchin. Reservations are accepted online, and the restaurant is open for lunch and dinner daily.

I enjoyed the Red Beets & Burrata salad arugula, walnuts, and citrus dressing. The Pomodoro Penne is delicious, and I would also recommend a wood-fired pizza. Other popular menu items include Spaghetti Alla Norma with eggplant, tomato, basil, and dried ricotta and the Whole Branzino served with potatoes and vegetables.


Girl & The Goat

Chef Stephanie Izard opened the LA location of Girl & The Goat in the summer of 2021. Located in the Arts District, the restaurant is open for dinner daily, with an additional brunch on Sundays. Girl & The Goat has an impeccable vibe with warm wood furnishings and potted plants from ceiling to floor.

For dinner, try the pan-roasted scallops with chili relish or the confit goat belly. I enjoyed the lamb sirloin skewer with yuzu-cilantro and the duck tartare with gochujang mayonnaise. For brunch, I would recommend “the little piggy,” a cheddar scallion biscuit stuffed with Sichuan sausage, hoisin mayo, and a chili maple syrup. Notably, the roasted shishitos from the vegan menu are incredible!


LA Cha Cha Cha

LA Cha Cha Cha is open nightly between Tuesday and Sunday. Located near the Arts District and the Los Angeles River, the restaurant is filled with light due to the vast windows. The vibe is terrific, with lots of open-air seating and geometric-shaped decor.

Try the chorizo tacos with salsa verde–so delicious! I’d also recommend the spicy pineapple margarita, the pollo a las brasas–a half chicken with achiote pequin sauce, and the ceviche de betabel. A range of espresso drinks is also available for a bit of caffeine after your meal.

Open since 2003, Park’s BBQ, is a hip spot for delicious Korean BBQ. Chef Jenee Kim holds a degree in Culinary Science from Seoul Women’s College. Park’s is a Koreatown community staple and serves USDA Prime and Kobe-style beef. The restaurant is open daily from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm.

Park’s BBQ is known for the Parks Gal-Bi, a prime beef Short Rib marinated in Park’s BBQ award-winning sauce. Other menu highlights include the RibEye Bulgogi and the Wagyu Boneless Beef Short Rib. I enjoyed the Beef Kimchi Dumpling Soup and the GGot Sal.

For breakfast, my favorite item is the Ricotta Bruschetta with orange blossom honey and sesame seeds. If visiting for lunch or dinner, definitely try the pizza–I enjoyed the White Lightning with mozzarella, ricotta, and pickled jalapeno. Other menu favorites include Grandma’s Spaghetti, the Six Hour Bolognese, and the Mariana Braised Meatballs.

Hotville Chicken is a Nashville staple living in Los Angeles! Kim Prince, chef and owner, is serving delicious dishes inspired by her family’s unique recipe that has been around since the 1930s. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner between Tuesday and Sunday; it is located near Leimert Park Plaza.

To order, select the pieces of chicken you’d like–breast, leg, wings, half-chicken, or whole chicken. Then the spice level you’d prefer between West Coast Plain, Cali Mild, Music City Medium, or Nashville Hot. The Shaw is a signature chicken sandwich topped with slaw and ordered by many. Don’t forget to try the potato salad!

Gigi’s Hollywood is open for dinner from Tuesday to Saturday. Reservations are available online. The cocktail menu is fantastic; try the Bitter Sunrise or the Piano Man. The classic lines and lovely white plates establish a creative and modern vibe.

The Deviled Eggs with Fried Oysters and the escargot are delicious appetizers. The Roasted Chicken entree with fingerling potatoes is a great option. The cheeseburger with caramelized onions is a satisfying and comfortable meal. I also enjoyed the Veal Schnitzel with potato salad. Try the shishito peppers with basil tahini.

Chef Tom Colicchio opened Craft Los Angeles in 2007 after moving from New York. Craft uses seasonal and fresh ingredients in true California fashion. Reservations are available online. The restaurant is open for lunch, dinner, and happy hour in the Century City neighborhood.

The BBQ Duck Salad is incredible with spinach, peach, and shallots. The Seabass is a great entree option with quinoa, currant, and cucumber. The Diver Scallops are succulent and delicious with sweet corn, cilantro, and lime. Notably, The Olvera Street cocktail with tequila and pineapple is excellent and is on the happy hour menu!

Chef Neal Fraser and Amy Knoll Fraser serve Modern American cuisine at Redbird. Wine Director, Matt Fosket, fills glasses with hand-selected wines from around the world. The restaurant even won the “Award of Excellence” from Wine Spectator. Located downtown, Redbird is open for dinner nightly and brunch on the weekend.

The dinner menu includes a great squash soup appetizer. I enjoyed the California Sea Bass with gnocchi, mushrooms, leeks, and porcini mushrooms. Try the New York Strip with broccolini. For brunch, the Shrimp & Grits is amazing with charred tomato sofrito. Also, try the Fried Egg Sandwich with bacon, harissa aioli, arugula, gruyere, and fries!


Sushi Gen

Bestia offers contemporary design in an industrial space and serves traditional Italian cuisine. Bestia is Italian for “Beast,” so the restaurant’s themed decor imposes a strong and whimsical vibe. Bestia’s owners, Ori Menashe and Genevieve Gergis, a culinary power couple, recently published a cookbook named after the restaurant.

The menu is exciting with many Italian dishes. Try the Roasted Marrow Bone with spinach gnocchetti, breadcrumbs, and aged balsamic. Also, the Sage & Mortadella pizza is a crowd favorite. I enjoyed the Cavatelli alla Norcina with ricotta dumplings, black truffles, and sausage. For dessert, sample the Warm Pear Ricotta Tart.

For a neighborhood spot with Italian comfort food, visit the Maccheroni Republic. The restaurant is open for both lunch and dinner every day and offers a bring-your-own wine option. Located near the Historic Core district, Maccheroni Republic has beautiful outdoor dining for temperate days.

The Roasted Cauliflower with crushed lemon is delightful. The Grilled Cheese aged white cheddar, yellow cheddar, pickled mustard seeds, and sourdough.

The restaurant offers a great price fixe menu. Bar Restaurant is concisely and accurately named after its offerings. The restaurant also has an awesome outdoor seating space.

The appetizer with feta, watermelon, and heirloom tomato is refreshing and a great way to start your meal. My favorite entree is the Soft Shell Crab with the Schezuan Au Poivre. Another menu favorite is the Dry Aged Bone-in New York Strip with endive. Try a glass of rose with your meal!

The tuna tartare with truffles, citrus, and sunchoke is delicious. The Smoked Short Ribs with celery root puree are also great. Try the Jungle Bird cocktail with rum, Select Aperitivo, pineapple, and lime. On the rooftop, I enjoyed the Fried Pork Dumplings with carrots, cabbage, pork belly, cilantro salsa verde!

Kali is a community establishment near Hollywood and the Larchmont neighborhood. Kevin Meehan and Drew Langley own and operate Kali and have constructed a restaurant with a casual vibe and a fine dining experience. Kali is a Michelin star restaurant and offers many specials for guests to enjoy.

The Caramelized Local Black Cod with charred cabbage, golden oyster, and mushroom is my favorite dish. Also, try the Local Prawn Crudo with citrus, shiso, and seaweed. The Kushi Oysters are a tasty starter. The Chef’s Menu includes eight courses where guests can experience the full range of the chef’s skills.

The Water Grill is located in Downtown Los Angeles. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner daily and serves an assortment of seafood. Johnathan Moulton is the executive chef; his specialty is the Wild California Spiny Lobster. Definitely don’t skip on the sushi; it is incredibly fresh!

For an appetizer, try the clam chowder. The King Salmon Roll with salmon, avocado, hazelnuts, papaya, and a white soy lime vinaigrette is my favorite sushi roll on the menu. Also, try the New England Lobster Roll! The bottle of the Gainey Saviongon Blanc from Santa Barbara is a superb pairing with most of the seafood dishes on the menu.

Fleming’s is across from the Los Angeles Convention Center. Unlike other steakhouses, Fleming’s offers innovative plant-based options. The steakhouse is perfect for events and special occasions. Fleming’s is open for dinner nightly with indoor and outdoor dining.

For a steak, try the Prime New York Strip or the Petit Filet Mignon. Other than a steak, try the Miso Glazed Chilean Sea Bass. On “Tomahawk Tuesday,” two people can share the Tomahawk cut of steak with sides, an appetizer, and a dessert. The chickpea and eggplant croquette is a delicious meatless option served with sauteed mushrooms and roasted asparagus.

Try the Crab Benedict with a crab cake, sautéed spinach, roasted bell pepper, poached eggs, and hollandaise sauce for breakfast. During lunch, the blackened ahi tuna burger with tomato, avocado, and basil aioli on a brioche bun is a filling option. For dinner, I enjoyed the Jerk Pork Chop with garlic mashed potato with grilled pineapple.

The restaurant offers an outdoor dining space and three private dining rooms. Drago Centro is open for lunch between Monday and Friday and for dinner Monday through Saturday.

I enjoyed the classic Gli Spaghetti Cacio e Pepe with black peppercorn and pecorino cheese. Also, the Risotto al Limone con Gamberri Arrosto with lemon zest and herb-roasted shrimp is delightful. The pan-roasted salmon with parsnip puree, romanesco cauliflower, and pine nuts is a great main course.

Perch offers rooftop seating and outdoor dining on the fifteenth floor of a building for incredible city views. The patio provides heaters for outdoor seating during the cooler months. The restaurant is open for nightly dinner and brunch with live music on the weekend. The vibe of the indoor bar is comfortable and homey.

Try the Avocado Toast for brunch; it has roasted Campari tomatoes and candied pepitas. I also enjoyed the Smoked Salmon Benedict with chive hollandaise sauce. The dinner menu is vast; I would recommend trying the Steak Frites served with truffle cheese fries or the Bacon Mac & Cheese with a black truffle béchamel.


California Grill

The pupusas are a house specialty – a pupusa is a stuffed corn tortilla filled with various stuffings.

In addition to trying a pupusa, try the Chile Relleno or the Chilaquiles con Huevo. The Camarones Al Mojo De Ajo, Garlic Shrimp, is an excellent choice for a tasty lunch. If you are starving, try the Yuca Con Chicharron–the Yucca root with fried pork is a delicious and satisfying meal.

Try the dumplings – the steamed pork and the jalapeno mandu are both incredible. The Kimchi and Bacon Fried Rice is a great entree. I also enjoyed the Bulgogi & Rice. The Spicy Cold Noodle is a refreshing dish for a warm day. Also, enjoy frozen dumplings that you can purchase, take home, and enjoy later.

Bari is named for a port city in Puglia. It is located in Los Angeles’ Beverly Grove community. Like many farmhouse villas in Puglia, the restaurant’s stone archway invites guests to travel via cuisine with Italian wines, pasta, and skewered meats. The restaurant is open daily for dinner.

The Focaccia bread was delicious, and I enjoyed the addition of tomatoes. The Barramundi skewer with salsa verde was a delicious meat skewer. Also, the orecchiette pasta with broccoli rabe, anchovies, and chili was my favorite bite of the meal. I’d also recommend the tuna stuffed cherry peppers!


Brent’s Deli Northridge

Brent’s Deli Northridge opened in 1967 to offer delicatessen-style foods to the Los Angeles area. With vintage window signage, the vibe of the restaurant is familiar and familial. Ron Peskin initially purchased the restaurant with his wife, and now, his son – Brent – owns and operates the deli.

I enjoyed the Whitefish Plate served with a bagel and cream cheese and the Deli Omelet with pastrami and corned beef for breakfast. The lunch and dinner menus are filled with yummy options, too. Try the potato latkes with a cherry apple sauce, the hot pastrami sandwich, or the Old Fashioned Meatloaf with mashed potatoes.


Bavel

Bavel is named after the biblical story of the Tower of Babel. Located in the Downtown Arts District, the restaurant is a great dinner location and even has a cookbook by the same name. The Middle Eastern restaurant is open daily from 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm. Chefs Ori Menashe and Genevieve Gergis serve an array of fresh ingredients cooked in traditional styles.

Begin your meal with the grilled prawns served with harissa marinade, cured zucchini, and cucumber tzatziki. The slow-roasted lamb shawarma with tahini, ajika, and pickled vegetables is a delicious entree. For dessert, try the pear spice cake with brown butter. The Tashe cocktail was delightful; the bartender mixed it with gin, strawberry, brandy, and sweet vermouth.


Asanebo

Asanebo is a gourmet Japanese restaurant. Chef Tetsuya Nakao relocated to California in the 1980s and opened Asanebo in 1991. The restaurant has earned two Michelin stars since its opening. The restaurant opens every day at 5:30 pm and 11:00 pm.

The sushi is terrific. I would recommend the Yellowtail & Scallion Roll and the Spicy Tuna Roll. Additional pieces are served in portions of two and include Yellowtail, Wagyu, Red Snapper, and Octopus options. I also enjoyed the Sea Bass Miso Soup and the Brussel Scallop salad with fresh truffle.


Brothers Meatballs

Brothers Meatballs is a plant-based Italian restaurant serving an entirely vegan menu. Mauro and Sergio Corbia are from Sardinia, Italy. Located on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood, Brothers Meatballs is serving delicious meals to the neighborhood. The restaurant is open between Tuesday and Sunday for dinner.

Chef Sergio is famous for his Penne Vodka; it is a must-try with the addition of a meatball right on top! The Rosso sandwich is also a popular menu item with Brothers meatballs, tomato sauce, basil, mozzarella, and parmesan cheese. I would recommend both the Panzanella salad and the limoncello raspberry panna cotta.

Located in Old Chinatown, the Angry Egret Dinette is a classic restaurant serving warming meals. The restaurant is open Tuesday through Sunday. Chef Wes Avila describes the restaurant as a fast-casual eatery and enjoys the recognition as a neighborhood joint. It is regular on lists for the best burritos in town!

I enjoyed the Beef Shank Burrito with braised beef shank, cilantro, onion, arbol salsa, and Mexican rice. Other popular menu items include Honey Chipotle Shrimp Torta and the Cubano sandwich. The dinette also serves espresso-based beverages, so you can pair a latte with a burrito and start your day off full and energized.

Aroma Coffee & Tea is located near Woodbridge Park, and the cafe is open daily beginning at 7:00 am. The backyard patio seating is a quiet place to enjoy coffee or study. The cafe offers various gluten-free and vegan options as well, so everyone feels welcome. Keep your eyes peeled for the signature red outdoor umbrellas to know you’ve made it to Aroma.

In addition to many types of coffee and tea, the menu offers other tasty options like the Carnitas Benedict with slow-cooked carnitas, peppers, onions, and two poached eggs on toasted ciabatta topped with Santa Fe hollandaise sauce. I enjoyed the Brioche French Toast with strawberries and bananas. The Grilled Tuna Melt is a great lunch option.


Broad Street Oyster Company

With a hip vibe, Broad Street Oyster Company offers fresh seafood in a casual setting. Opened by Christopher Tompkins, the company has become a fixture in Malibu. Christopher recommends ordering a beer and the lobster roll. The restaurant is open every day between 11:30 and 8:00 pm.

Start with the Oysters Rockefeller, baked with spinach, garlic, and breadcrumbs, or the Snapper Ceviche with avocado, cucumber, Fresno chili, red onion, lime, and plantains. Then try the Fried Fish Sando made with fried halibut, tartar, pickles, lettuce, coleslaw, and Fresno chili. I also enjoyed the Baja Tacos. For that beer Christopher mentioned, try the Pizza Port IPA!


Angler

Angler is a fresh seafood restaurant operated by Chef Joshua Skenes and situated in the center of Los Angeles. The restaurant is open Tuesday through Saturday from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Angler works directly with an intimate group of fishermen and farmers to develop seasonal dishes that focus on sustainability. The menu changes regularly, so every visit is a new experience.

When I visited Angler, I enjoyed the Tai Bream Ceviche, and the Ora King Salmon served with Charred Market Peppers with pistachio. Fresh oysters and clams are available, as are Parker House rolls. I sampled the coconut sorbet for dessert, and it was the perfect ending to my meal.

Vanessa and Thomas Tilaka Kalb are restaurateurs in Los Angeles and are the owners of Agnes Restaurant & Cheesery. Vanessa is in charge of the cheese while Thomas is the executive chef. The restaurant is named after Thomas’ grandmother, Mary Agnes, who enjoyed a gin and tonic when she entertained guests. You can make reservations for lunch or dinner online.

The cheeseboard is an incredible experience with various cheese, cured meats, and pate. For dinner, the Loaded Baked Potato Dumplings are filling and delightful. I also enjoyed the grilled organic chicken with au jus. The dessert cheeses are worth a try, and make sure to grab a snickerdoodle cookie to go!


Bicyclette

Bicyclette serves French cuisine in a comfortable atmosphere. Chef Walter and Margarita Manzke are Los Angeles culinary experts with multiple eateries to their names. Bicyclette has been recognized by the James Beard Award Foundation and the Los Angeles Times. The restaurant is near the Beverlywood neighborhood and is open between Monday and Saturday for dinner.

I enjoyed the Bouillabaisse with rock cod, mussels, clams, and prawns. Also, the Beef Short Rib a la Bourguignonne was excellent. Another popular menu item is the Caramelized Onion Tarte Tatin. From the cocktail list, try the Kip Royale or the Queen Elizabeth. I’m also a fan of Belle Meade Bourbon on the rocks.


Burgers She Wrote

Burgers She Wrote is a quippy and creative burger joint between the Fairfax and La Brea communities that definitely deserves a place on this list. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner daily. The burgers are Wagyu smash burgers, so get ready to grab some napkins and dig in!

All burgers are either single or double. I ordered the double Oklahoma Burger with caramelized onions with a side of the hand-cut fries – absolute perfection. All the smash burgers come with cheese, ketchup, onions, pickles, mustard, and mayonnaise.  Pair your classic American meal with a Pacifico light lager, and you will experience a true California sensation.


Cassell’s Hamburgers

In 1948, Al Cassell started Cassell’s Hamburgers as a lunch counter eatery in Los Angeles. He was grinding fresh beef daily and making in-house mayonnaise, intending to create the perfect burger. Cassell’s Hamburgers is currently located in the Hotel Normandie, and the menu has expanded. The restaurant is open daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Try the B’fast burger with a crisp hash brown, avocado, a fried egg, and spicy mayo for breakfast. Patty Melt is king for lunch or dinner with a house-ground premium beef patty, swiss cheese, and grilled onions on toasted rye. For a make-it-yourself experience, the burger add-ons, like chile con carne, are fun. I really enjoyed the onion rings!

Cafe Gratitude is a plant-based eatery serving multiple neighborhoods around Los Angeles, from the Arts District to Newport Beach. Most locations are open daily from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm. All locations are built with an airly open space to allow lots of light to permeate the dining area.

The “I am Festive” plate with corn chips, salsa Roja, cashew crema, mushroom carnitas, and sautéed kale is an often-ordered menu item. I tried the “I am Light” – a latte, and the “I am Open-Hearted” buckwheat pancakes with bananas and berries. The “I am Active” green juice was very good with cucumber and ginger.


Alcove

Alcove offers modernized variations of American classics using fresh and local ingredients. The restaurant is open daily at 9:00 am, with breakfast available all day. Alcove resides in two of the oldest houses in Los Feliz, built respectively in 1916 and 1897. The owners converted the space in 2003 to hold the restaurant.

The Lemon Ricotta Pancakes with pecan butter and maple syrup is delicious. I also enjoyed the Smoked Salmon Breakfast stack with potato pancakes and crème fraîche. I would also recommend the Breakfast Burrito with rosemary potatoes. The Blackened Salmon Tacos and the Steak Salad are nice savory options for lunch or dinner.


Afuri Ramen + dumpling LA

Afuri Ramen + dumpling LA is named after a mountain in Kanagawa. The restaurant, well-established in Tokyo, opened its first United States location in 2016 in Portland, Oregon. Since then, many locations have opened up and down the West Coast, specifically, the restaurant in Los Angeles. The restaurant is open daily for lunch and dinner.

The restaurant has two signature dishes: the Yuzu Shio ramen and the Buta Pork Gyoza; both dishes are unique and tasty. Additionally, I enjoyed the tonkotsu tantanmen ramen with pork broth, bok choy, shiitake, leeks, and garlic ginger pork crumbles. The vegan miso cashew gyoza with kimchi, carrot, miso, green onion, and garlic was incredible as well.


Anajak Thai Cuisine

For nearly forty years, Anajak has been serving Thai Cuisine to the Sherman Oaks neighborhood. A family-run establishment, the father and son team take pride in offering traditional Thai cuisine. The restaurant is open for dinner between Tuesday and Sunday. Stop by on Thai Taco Tuesday for innovative fusion dishes!

Start with the pineapple-glazed pork ribs, then try the Panang curry with shrimp. Other delicious dishes include the spicy drunken noodles, grilled whole dry-aged fish, and the grilled Bangkok shrimp. My favorite Thai meal is shrimp pad thai, and Anajak delivers a high-quality dish!

Big Boi aims to offer Filipino food that is accessible to everyone. Chef Barb Batiste, known for her outstanding desserts, launched this restaurant to share her family recipes with Los Angeles. Follow Big Boi on social media for updates on monthly specials. The restaurant is open Wednesday through Sunday for lunch and dinner.

Try the Lumpia Shanghai; small egg rolls served with sweet and sour sauce. The Pork Sisig is a customer favorite with crispy pork belly and spicy mayo. For those who love pasta, try the Filipino-style Spaghetti with a lightly sweetened tomato sauce. Pick up some housemade hot honey to go!

Brooklyn Ave Pizza Co. serves craft pizzas alongside draft beer. The restaurant is self-described as fast-casual and the perfect place for a first date. The restaurant is in the Boyle Heights community beneath a famous music and events venue, The Paramount LA. Visit for lunch or dinner from Tuesday to Sunday.

The Sinner pizza with bacon, sweet and spicy pineapple, mushroom, and mozzarella cheese  is perfect. I also enjoyed the Meat Lovers with pepperoni, hatch chili, chicken-pork sausage, and mozzarella. Other menu items include lemon pepper and mole chicken wings and garlic parmesan fries. The Boomtown Chavez Ravine IPA is a delicious drink pairing!


Bull & Butterfly

The Bull & Butterfly is a non-traditional steakhouse. Heidi and Alan Jackson, the co-owners, focus on serving ranch-style meats and vegetables. The restaurant is open Wednesday through Sunday for dinner and brunch on the weekends. Reservations are recommended and can be made online.

To start your dinner, begin with the Vidalia Onion Rings with champagne tempura and black truffle ranch. Then, as an entree, I would recommend the Wood Grilled Salmon with caramelized fennel, chickpea tomato salad, and salsa verde. The Steak and Cheddar Eggs with prime sirloin steak, cornmeal pancake, and jalapeno sauce is the best brunch item.


Final Thoughts

From creative breakfast spots to killer burgers to vegan steakhouses, the restaurant scene in Los Angeles is robust, a massive benefit to locals and visitors alike.
