Antiquity Restaurant is an old-town Albuquerque favorite that’s easy to miss, but you’ll be sorry if you walk past it. The non-descript exterior says little of the intimate ambiance within. This well-kept Albuquerque secret is perfect for a romantic evening or a milestone celebration. 

Be sure to try their “Henry IV,” a bacon-wrapped filet mignon, perfectly cooked and served with bearnaise sauce and artichoke hearts. Or, if seafood is more your style, the scallops are always stunning. Paired with a glass of something sweet from Antiquity’s extensive wine list, you’re sure to enjoy them.

Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen in Albuquerque is conveniently located in Brentwood Park, just off the Pan American freeway. One of many restaurants in the family-owned and operated chain called Pappas, the seafood kitchen features Louisiana-style, French-inspired flavors in a fun and upbeat environment. 

When you go, we suggest trying the Stuffed Crab or the Pasta Mardi Gras, but if you want something on the lighter side, all of their salads are crisp, fresh, and sure to satisfy.

Located in the heart of Albuquerque, just off the historic Route 66, Seared is an American bistro featuring the best in meats and vegetarian options. Refined and classic, with white tabletops, exceptional service, and gourmet food, Seared is a restaurant everyone should try at least once. 

In truth, though, once you’ve tried their Filet De Boeuf or their Herb Roasted Rack of Lamb, you’ll probably want to return again and again. The gourmet meals by Chef Alejandro Tenchipe-Paez are unpretentious and unforgettable, making Seared one of our absolute favorite restaurants.

For a quick bite of local southwestern cuisine, nothing beats Frontier Restaurant. Located near the University of New Mexico, Frontier Restaurant is infamous with students and travelers alike. The cowboy-inspired atmosphere, epic menu, and southwestern vibes have kept this restaurant thriving for over fifty years! 

Honestly, if they made it another fifty years (or more), we wouldn’t be surprised. Their legendary cinnamon rolls are enough to keep us coming back regularly. Or, try their breakfast burrito with green chile and Carne adovada, rich and tender pork smothered in southwestern red sauce.

In the EDO district of Albuquerque, an area that feels residential and homey, you’ll find the Artichoke Cafe. This restaurant features the perfect blend between casual and upscale. You’ll find white linen tablecloths combined with butcher paper, and the food is just as in-between, making it ideal for dinner dates, as well as business or family celebrations.  

Whether you’re craving a burger or ravioli, Artichoke Cafe delivers with exquisitely fresh, farm-to-table offerings. Their steak fries with onion jam are sure to dazzle and delight, but for an extra-special treat, start the table with the saffron arancini appetizer.

Monroe’s has been serving New Mexican food since 1962 when it was just a tiny drive-in in old town Albuquerque. Now, this restaurant boasts national recognition, and there’s no wonder why. For traditional, new Mexican-style food, it’s hard to find a better option or price. 

Affordable and family-friendly, Monroe’s features a lengthy menu that’s sure to please everyone. Their chips and salsa are a favorite staple, as is their guacamole, but it’s their giant breakfast burritos and enchilada plates that keep the locals coming back!

In the western half of old town Albuquerque, there’s a lively saloon called High Noon that provides more than a fun, adult atmosphere. It also offers innovative takes on traditional southwestern fare.

Seasons 52 is a national chain that believes in fresh and seasonal eating. Located near the uptown area, the Albuquerque location offers a wide variety of seasonal eats, incredible service, and an excellent wine list. 

Though the menu is constantly changing, their selection of salads and soups is always top-notch. Also fantastic is their filet mignon, no matter what they’re serving it with at the time. And, you’ll never go wrong with their crab polenta side dish. 


Nexus Brewery & Restaurant

Just off the Pan-American Freeway in Albuquerque, Nexus Brewery and Restaurant is the place to visit for great brews, a vibrant atmosphere, and plenty of Cajun-inspired soul food. Founded by former banker and avid Star Trek fan Ken Carson, Nexus brewery is an out-of-this-world spot, great for family dining as well as casual meetups. 

The soul food is phenomenal, especially the red beans and rice, but Nexus Brewery also specializes in local fare. You’d be remiss to miss the New Mexico Red or Green Nachos, and, of course, you have to try their Nexus Scotch Ale.

You’ll find Seasons Rotisserie & Grill just north of Old Town and steps from the convention center doors. This upscale, family-owned restaurant focuses on fresh ingredients that are local and sustainable. They also fly in high-quality seafood. 

Their Oak Grilled Salmon is something special, and there are many vegetarian options to choose from. The Fried Eggplant Napoleon is particularly delicious. Enjoy it with their house-made grilled bread or a fresh Caprese salad. 


Padilla’s Mexican Grill

For an authentic taste of local fare, Padilla’s Mexican Grill is the place to stop. This restaurant is unassuming, inside a strip mall, and easy to miss, but the food and service are fantastic! 

The sopapillas here are a local favorite, as is the red chili. Plus, you can’t beat house-made tortilla chips and salsa. You’ll need cash to dine here, but the trouble of stopping at an ATM is more than worth the deliciousness. 


El Patio De Albuquerque

With two locations in Albuquerque, El Patio is always within reach. This restaurant offers large portions, a charming atmosphere, and an accommodating service team. It’s no wonder that it’s been a local favorite since 1977. 

The food at El Patio De Albuquerque tastes like it came from your grandmother’s kitchen; if your grandmother happens to be New Mexican, that is. Anything with their green chile is delectable, and you can’t go wrong with their Carne adovada tacos.

With all the charm and nostalgia of a 50’s hamburger joint, 66 Diner brings food, fun, and plenty of malts and milkshakes to Albuquerque. Just west of the University, you’ll find this iconic gem, complete with all the route 66 paraphernalia you’d expect. 

The restaurant isn’t just famous for its classic atmosphere; it also features the best burgers in the area. So whether you want a New Mexican-style green chili cheeseburger or something more basic, like bacon and cheddar, you’ll love the offerings at 66 Diner.

Frank Sr’s Brisket Burger is an extra-special dish featuring a New Mexico Hatch Green Chile, chuck burger, and generous helping of brisket. If you’re seeking something more authentic, though, you should consider their enchilada plates, like their Carne adovada enchiladas or their ribeye steak enchilada plate.

Nestled in Downtown Albuquerque sits an impressive french bistro named Le Troquet. Chef Jean Pierre Gozaud’s fifth successful restaurant in the city, this one boasts a cozy feel that transports you out of the Southwest and into a charming Parisian scene.

Between the melt-in-your-mouth beef bourguignon and made-to-order French pastries, it’s easy to forget you’re in Albuquerque, making Le Troquet a pleasant escape. Be sure to try the cream of mushroom soup if they’re featuring it that day!

The Jealous Fork is the “jealous little sister” of Fork & Fig, another well-loved Albuquerque establishment, and sits directly behind its big sister restaurant. At this counter-style food joint, you can order enchiladas precisely to your preferences. 

Pick your tortillas, protein, sauce, cheese, and toppings, and enjoy enchiladas your way. Whether you pick tomatillo sauce with chicken or vegetarian-style mushroom enchiladas, you’re almost sure to leave this restaurant happy.

The Grill on San Mateo sits north of Uptown Albuquerque and boasts the best burgers in town. Tucked into a strip mall, this casual, counter-style restaurant is also a fantastic hangout, featuring live music by local talents and walls covered in kitschy collectibles. 

At The Grill on San Mateo, they use a wood-fired grill that gives all their burgers a unique, smoky flavor you have to taste to believe. The green chile cheeseburger is a classic choice, but also good is their ribeye steak, served with fries or a baked potato. 


Magokoro Japanese Restaurant

Tiny and authentic, Magokoro has the best Japanese food in Albuquerque. We’re sure of that because the owner closed the restaurant for three years to further study noodle making in Japan. Needless to say, the ramen here is very impressive. 

Tonkotsu Ramen is always a good choice at Magokoro. If you’re there for lunch, give the Chicken Kara-aage a try. And if seafood is more your style, consider the Edi Fry; that’s breaded fried shrimp served with rice, miso salad, and your choice of sides.  


Fork & Fig

Located in Uptown Albuquerque, Fork & Fig offers a unique southwestern experience. It’s small and casual, and the parking lot is always full, but that’s because the food is unbelievably delicious and decidedly different. 

Take the Beefalo burger, which is a burger made of buffalo and ground beef. Served on a pretzel bun with white cheddar and black garlic aioli, it’s wonderfully unique. For something on the healthier side, try a blackened salmon wrap, served with blistered tomato and creamy remoulade sauce.

The Grove Cafe & Market is an American-style restaurant in the heart of the Huning Highland Historic District. It offers excellent service in a modern setting, featuring artisan-style plates and a seemingly endless offering of breakfast drinks. 

At The Grove Cafe & Market, you can order breakfast all day long. There’s prosciutto-wrapped asparagus with poached eggs on sourdough toast. Or, for something sweet, consider the Grove pancakes. They’re served with fresh fruit, creme fraiche, local honey, and maple syrup.

If you’re looking for a plant-forward restaurant that has lots of vegetarian options, as well as carnivorous eats, Rosemary is a great choice. With two locations in Albuquerque, Rosemary’s urban casual atmosphere is never too far away.  

Their green chile mac n’ cheese is an excellent dish, but if you want something different, give the farro risotto a try. Add the optional roasted mushrooms to it and be ready for a flavor experience. Of course, you also can’t go wrong with any of their burger or sandwich options.

El Modelo Mexican Foods features generous portions and outstanding quality at a high-value price. Located just south of Downtown Albuquerque in the Barelas neighborhood, this casual take-out spot has plenty of authentic Mexican foods to try.  

The tamales are incredible, and you can order them by the dozen for celebrations and holidays. They freeze well too! Even better is the chorizo chile, which is featured in their stuffed sopapilla or available on its own.

Located in the Hotel El Vado food plaza, Buen Provecho BBQ is small but excellent! They offer a broad selection of Costa Rican dishes and South American desserts that you can enjoy in the food court’s open-air courtyard. 

The yucca fries are a must-try, especially with their vegan chimichurri. Also fantastic are the patacones, or fried green plantain slices. When it comes to main dishes, you can’t go wrong with the chicharron platter, which comes with sweet plantains and a fried egg. 


Final Thoughts

Albuquerque is a southwestern gem full of delicious food options. Locals and tourists may go crazy for Hatch chiles every year, but there’s so much more than that here!
