Best Pre-Workout Drinks to Jumpstart Your Next Gym Session

Drink these pre-workout options for more energy before you hit the gym.

Athletes are serious about their energy drinks and supplements — especially pre-workout. We want the cleanest energy, most endurance, and juiciest pump without the crash.

A pre workout container sits on the gym floor

The multitude of pre-workout options on the market make it easy to get lost in the technical and sales jargon; I’ve been there.

So I narrowed it down to the best options and tried all of these pre-workouts (so you don’t have to) for that reason.

All these pre-workout mixes contain the ingredients you need for a successful gym session, minus the jittery crash you experience from so many other supplements.

Best Pre-Workout Supplements

Read on to learn more about each option and its main ingredients so you can pick the best pre-workout drinks for your next lift.

Huge Supplements Wrecked

Wrecked Pre-Workout is for the serious pump-junky. It combines 17 different high-quality ingredients for a 30-gram serving that’ll have your muscles popping and your energy unmatched.

Huge Supplements combine L-citrulline, HydroMax, beta-alanine, and L-tyrosine to boost your workout performance with intense, long-lasting energy, laser focus, and explosive power.

Even better, this is the perfect option if you’re looking for a pre-workout with no creatine.

I was a fan of this one because I’ve struggled to find a clean energy pre-workout that didn’t leave me feeling jittery.

Wrecked gave me enough focus and energy to crush my lift, and I avoided the crash afterward. If you’re sensitive to pre-workouts, I’d recommend starting with a half scoop.

This one comes in four flavors: Raspberry Mojito, Peach Rings, Bomb Popsicle, and Rainbow Burst.

Legion Pulse All-Natural Pre-Workout

Legion created the Pulse Pre-Workout with the ultra-focused athlete in mind.

L-citrulline malate, betaine, beta-alanine, alpha-GPC, caffeine, and L-theanine combine to give you laser focus to pump out that weight for more reps.

Legion is so confident you’ll love this pre-workout that they offer a 100% money-back guarantee.

I appreciated the endurance I felt when I took this pre-workout, and that it comes in so many different flavors, meaning I never get tired of it.

Some flavors include Fruit Punch, Arctic Blast, Blue Raspberry, and my favorite, Cherry Limeade.

Kaged Muscle Pre-Kaged

The Pre-Kaged pre-workout by Kaged is one of my top favorites. It’s a clean pre-workout made with PurCaf organic caffeine from:

  • Non-GMO green coffee beans
  • Taurine
  • Tyrosine
  • Fermented, plant-based BCAAs

Kaged promises that this pre-workout will push nutrient-rich blood and oxygen into your muscles for solid muscle pumps, heighten your mental focus, and reduce muscle fatigue.

This formula also includes Spectra, a blend of fruits, vegetables, and herbs that provide antioxidants and support nitric oxide production in our bodies.

The best part is that there are two caffeine-free options available (Cherry Bomb and Fruit Punch) if you’re highly caffeine sensitive or don’t want it in your pre-workout.

Some other flavors include Berry Blast, Grape, Krisp Apple, Orange Krush, and Pink Lemonade.

NutraBio PRE

NutraBio PRE Workout Powder is where it’s at for crazy good, clean energy.

This mix contains beta-alanine, creatine monohydrate, L-Leucine, and more to maximize your strength, increase your endurance, and boost your focus to power your workout.

All NutraBio’s products are lab created, and the company boasts label transparency, so you can see exactly what it’s your supplement.

I’ve used both a half scoop and a full scoop of this pre-workout, and I get a good lift on both doses. You should start with a half serving and adjust to your preference.

When I use a half scoop, I notice less of the tingly and itchy sensations from the beta-alanine.

Choose from Blue Raspberry, Cherry Limeade, Dragonfruit Candy, Grape Berry Crush, Raspberry Lemonade, Strawberry Lemon Bomb, or Watermelon flavors.

Powher Pre-Workout

Powher is a company that works with registered dieticians and product scientists to develop products that work in sync with women’s bodies.

The Powher Pre-Workout is formulated with EnXtra (a caffeine amplifier made from a plant in the ginger family), caffeine from green coffee beans, vitamin B6, and vitamin B12 to support more intense workouts and increased focus and motivation to push out that last set.

As a woman (and someone sensitive to caffeine), I appreciate that this product uses the least amount of stimulants possible.

Unlike some of the other pre-workouts on this list, the Powher pre-workout doesn’t leave me feeling jittery or like I’ll crash in thirty minutes.

The only flavor available for this pre-workout is Pink Lemonade. Despite the limited flavor, this option is one of the best pre-workout drinks on the market.

Transparent Labs Preseries Bulk

The Preseries Bulk Pre-Workout by Transparent Labs is a pretty standard one.

It’s formulated with citrulline malate, beta-alanine, BCAAs, betaine anhydrous, and more to:

  • Boost energy and endurance
  • Support muscle growth
  • Decrease cortisol
  • Delay fatigue

Despite the itchiness from the beta-alanine, you’ll feel laser-focused on your goals and crush your workouts.

I’ve used this pre-workout a couple of times. The taste of this could certainly be better, but the pre-workout does what it needs to do – I can appreciate that it doesn’t contain any sweeteners.

The are various flavor options, including Blue Rasberry, Black Cherry, Sour Grape, Watermelon, Green Apple, Strawberry Lemonade, Lemon Lime, and Peach Mango.

C4 Original Pre-Workout

C4 is a popular classic and tends to be less expensive. The C4 Original Pre-Workout is made with a super creatine compound to support your strength and performance.

This pre-workout also contains CarnoSyn beta-alanine, which prevents fatigue and supports muscular endurance. It also has 150mg of caffeine to give you that explosive energy.

This option is a pre-workout I used for years and swore by. Though I no longer use it, it remains one of my favorites for a quick burst of energy and a fire workout.

My favorite flavor is Icy Blue Razz, but other options include Cherry Limeade, Pink Lemonade, Watermelon, and Strawberry Margarita.

MyProtein Pro — The Pump

The Pump pre-workout from MyProtein is a great no-stimulant pre-workout.

It still has key ingredients like L-citrulline, beta-alanine, betaine anhydrous, and taurine for that extreme focus and explosive power without the crash side effects.

This option is another fantastic pre-workout for those who are highly caffeine sensitive or simply don’t want any in there.

I’ve never felt any jitteriness or crash with this one, and I love using it for late-night workouts because I know I won’t have trouble going to bed afterward.

The available flavors are Ruby Red Grapefruit and Orange Mango.

Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Pre-Workout

The Gold Standard Pre-Workout from Optimum Nutrition is here to support your next workout.

This mix includes 175mg of caffeine from natural sources to help you dial in intense energy, mental alertness, and sharp focus before you begin your workout.

This option is a pretty middle-of-the-road pre-workout. There’s nothing particularly special about it, but it works the way it should and can help you achieve your fitness goals.

The flavor options are Blueberry Lemonade, Fruit Punch, Green Apple, and Watermelon.

My favorite out of the bunch is the Green Apple.
