John’s of Bleecker Street has been serving the neighborhood near the IFC Center since 1929. Giovanni “John” Sasso, the founder of the pizzeria, was from Naples, Italy, and is still a family-operated establishment.
The pizzeria is open every day, beginning at 11:30 am. As you walk down Bleecker Street, look for the neon sign reading “John’s Pizzeria,” and you’ve made it!
Pizzas are offered in medium or large sizes, and the restaurant offers various specialty pies, like John’s Bianca, The Boom Pie, and Meatlovers. Visitors can build their own pizza with toppings like pepperoni, sausage, green pepper, and ricotta. The restaurant also serves pasta, wine, and beer.

Roberto Caporuscio opened Kesté Pizza & Vino in 2009. Chef Caporuscio was born in Pontinia, Italy, and grew up on a dairy farm; he learned the traditional pizza-making ways early. The restaurant is open daily for lunch and dinner, and you can make reservations online. In May 2020, Kesté appeared on the Food Network show, Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives with Guy Fieri.
The pizzas are perfect. I would recommend the Prosciutto and Arugula with fresh mozzarella, prosciutto di Parma, arugula, grana, basil, and extra virgin olive oil or the Montanara. A treat with a lightly fried crust and bathed in with the house sauce (ciao tomato), as well as basil and mozzarella in buffalo-ish fashion.

In 1975, Joe Pozzuoli opened Joe’s Pizza, and now the restaurant has six locations across the city! Joe is originally from Naples, Italy, and even now, at 75 years old, Joe still owns and operates his restaurant. Notably, in 2009, GQ Magazine named Joe’s Pizza as one of the “Best 25 Pizzas on Earth.”
Enjoy pizza by the slice or the entire pie. I enjoyed the fresh mozzarella pie. Joe’s offers Sicilian pizza as well with a great dough. Per pie or slice, visitors can choose a variety of toppings to add between vegetables, meats, and sauces. You can’t go wrong with the traditional cheese slice!
Rivoli Pizza is an excellent takeout or delivery pizzeria. Located by the Christopher Street train station, the pizzeria is open at 11:00 am with extended late-night hours on the weekends. You can order pizza online or at the counter in the store.
Rivoli Pizza is known for its Sicilian pie, a thick crust square pizza with tomato sauce, mozzarella, and basil. I enjoyed the White Pie with a sauceless pie topped with ricotta, mozzarella, and parmesan cheese. The Buffalo Chicken Pizza and the Mushroom Pie are also delicious. The menu has options other than pizza like penne alla vodka and cheese ravioli.

Simò Pizza is owned and operated by Simone Falco, who hailed from Napoli. He aimed to create a fine dining pizzeria with dramatic West Village flair. The pizza is prepared within ninety seconds in a traditionally hot wood-fired oven. The restaurant is open every day for lunch and dinner.
The pizzas are classic and notably can be made gluten-free. I enjoyed the classic Margherita pizza, but other delicious options include the Quattro Formaggio with pecorino romano, parmigiano reggiano, mozzarella di bufala, and gorgonzola and the Salsiccia e Cipolla with sweet Italian sausage, red onion, and basil.

Village Square Pizza serves gourmet New York-style pizza using fresh ingredients and a secret family recipe. The restaurant’s vibe is casual and straightforward; the glass front exterior and the clean black and white menu board made for a great atmosphere. The pizzeria is about a block away from the apartment building made popular by the television show “Friends.”
I enjoyed a few slices when I visited Village Square Pizza. The Grandma with fresh mozzarella, pesto, Parmesan, and chopped garlic was my favorite, but I also enjoyed the Vodka Square with vodka sauce. The classic and the bruschetta are great meatless options.

Two Boots West Village opened in 2019, but the first location in the East Village has been around since 1987. The restaurant opens daily at noon and serves lunch and dinner. The Duchess, a famous lesbian bar, was once located in the restaurant’s current site in the 1970s.
So, Two Boots West Village has a location-specific specialty pie called The Duchess; it is a rainbow of various pestos, sweet Italian sausage with fennel, roasted garlic, oregano, and four kinds of cheese. I also enjoyed The Bird with buffalo chicken, blue cheese dressing, scallions, and jalapeños. The pies are creatively named and delicious!

Bleecker Street Pizza has won many awards; for instance, the restaurant earned a “Best Pizza” distinction by the Food Network for three years consecutively. Opened in 2004, the restaurant aims to provide an inviting space for guests to enjoy tasty pizza. The restaurant is open daily with extended late-night hours on the weekends.
The Nonna Maria Pizza is the restaurant’s signature pie, and for a good reason, it is the best bite of pizza on the menu! I would also recommend trying the White Pie or the Pepperoni Pizza. Don’t be conservative when ordering; you are definitely going to want that second slice!

Antonio Gomez is the owner of Spunto Thin Crust Pizza, and since 1999 he and his partner have been serving up ultra-thin crust pizzas to an exciting crowd. The vibe of the restaurant is casual and friendly, the perfect definition of a neighborhood joint. The restaurant is open daily for lunch and dinner.
The Giardino is a great option with marinara sauce, cheese, broccoli, fresh tomatoes, sweet red onions, roasted garlic, and spinach. I also enjoyed the Meatball Classic and the Parma with prosciutto crisps and bacon. The Shroomtown is a great vegetable option. The restaurant offers lunch specials during the week!

Matthew Hyland is the chef at Emily; the restaurant is named after his partner, and the pizzeria’s concept is one built out of a mutual love of pizza. The restaurant is open daily for lunch and dinner, and reservations can be made online. The menu is diverse, and while the pizza is the star, other items of interest are certainly prominent!
I loved the Colony pizza with pepperoni, pickled chili, and honey. I would also recommend the Luca with burrata or the Mimi with roasted garlic and basil. Don’t skip the roasted cauliflower appetizer and the eggplant parm is a great alternative to pizza if you want something a little different!

Numero 28 Pizzeria is an authentic Neapolitan-style pizzeria; the recipe for the dough has been passed down via five generations of pizzaioli.
The restaurant’s interior is a beautiful painted brick with a red accent across one wall; it is comfortable and welcoming to regulars and visitors alike. The restaurant is open for dine-in or delivery.
My favorite pizza was the San Daniele Pizza with mozzarella, arugula, and prosciutto. I also enjoyed the Tartufo Pizza with mozzarella, mushrooms, and truffle oil. Numero 28 serves other classic Italian dishes like burrata e crudo, lasagna, eggplant parmigiana, and tiramisu in addition to pizza.
