Bushwick Pizza Spots You Need to Try

Grab a slice or a whole pie at these spots in the area.

Brooklyn has some of the best pizza in the state, from delicious and authentic Grandma slices to designer pies topped high with all of the fixings. Bushwick is an eclectic neighborhood that’s just the right mix between artistic and working class. As a result, their restaurants reflect those demographics. Naturally, you can find high-end and humble pizzas in this corner of town.

Bushwick’s architecture reflects its interesting past, and the waves of immigrants who have made it what it is today. Today, you can take a tour of the Bushwick Collective, a massive outdoor gallery featuring some of Bushwick’s top artists.

As the name suggests, this pizzeria might have the best Italian food that you will get outside of Sicily. Sicily’s Best is just a short walk from Grover Cleveland Athletic Field, and they have some astoundingly good slices. Their Buffalo Chicken pizza is one of my all-time favorites, piled high with perfectly-seasoned and cooked Buffalo chicken and plenty of mozzarella cheese.

You can also try their Chicken Supreme or Grilled Chicken Salad pizza with plenty of fresh vegetables. If you’re in the mood for something heavier, Sicily’s Best also has a pizza topped with baked ziti or lasagna, both of which will send you straight to food and carb heaven. Of course, you can always go with their plain cheese pizzas for a sharable, low-key treat.

Their pizzas are traditional, flavorful, and use only the freshest ingredients. Plus, they have a great beer selection and wonderful ambiance that will totally make your night special.

My favorite pizza is easily their Ortolano pie. It’s an authentic taste sensation with a thin crust, flavorful sauce, and plenty of eggplant. Also, check out their shareable appetizers like Seafood Misto. It comes in a generous portion with plenty of dipping sauce. Delicious!

Ops is right around the corner from the Wyckoff Avenue/Stanhope Street bus station and is one of the most popular pizza places in all of Bushwick. If you go on the weekends, prepare to wait a little while for your table. But trust me, it’s completely worth it; Ops has some of the best pizzas and salads in town, with huge portions.

Although everything on Ops’ menu is phenomenal, you really can’t go wrong with the Pops pizza, packed high with guanciale and onions. Pair it with a glass of house wine for a fantastic eating experience. The ambiance at Ops is excellent too, and their pizza oven is styled just like a massive disco ball.

If you are in the mood for a meat pizza, check out their Meatball or Sicilian slices or pies. Both pies are packed with cheese, meat and served piping hot. All of the foundational elements of a good pizza are executed with perfection at Armando’s Pizza. You’ll find flavorful sauce, a thin crust, and just the right amount of cheese.

They offer tons of different pizzas and pasta, all with a signature artisan touch that keeps patrons coming back for more. Even standard pies, like their Cheese pizzas, are intensely flavored and done perfectly.

I love their Chicken Francese with penne. It’s got just the right amount of garlic flavoring, and the portion is enormous. If you get one of their pasta or meat entrees with fresh bread, you’ll easily have enough food to split between two people.

Broadway Pizza

1142 Broadway, Brooklyn, NY 11221

Broadway Pizza is right across the street from Kosciuszko Park, and it’s one of those great, unassuming Brooklyn institutions that just serves excellent food at reasonable prices. In addition, Broadway Pizza does a robust lunch and dinner service, so you might find yourself waiting for a table during their busy times.

The food is worth the wait. Their slices are crispy and flavorful. One of my favorites is their humble Cheese slice, piled high with fresh mozzarella. Their salads and gyros are delicious as well.
