Where to Get the Perfect Slice of Pizza in Brooklyn Heights

It is no secret that New York knows how to make exceptional pizza. From Manhattan to Yonkers, the Empire State has some of the best slices worldwide.

New Yorkers are serious about their pizza, and Brooklyn is no exception. Aside from being the hipster older brother to Manhattan, Brooklyn has pizza joints that will blow your mind.

Brooklyn Heights, a neighborhood in Brooklyn, is known for its views of Manhattan and tree-lined streets. It is the first residential area after you cross the legendary Brooklyn Bridge. Idyllic, surprisingly quiet, and packed with New York-style pizza, a stop in Brooklyn Heights is a must.

There are tons of Brooklyn Heights pizza locales – to the point that it is a bit overwhelming. Below are a few top picks for some of the best slices in the city.

What started as a horse-and-buggy pizzeria eventually became one of the most renowned restaurants in Brooklyn. L & B Spumoni Gardens opened its doors in 1918 and has served authentic Italian pizza ever since. Spumoni Gardens is about three blocks from the 86th street subway station, so getting there is no trouble.

At under $4 a slice, L & B Spumoni is undeniably delicious. I like to keep it simple with my pizza, so I stick to cheese only – or extra cheese if I feel indulgent. They are known for Sicilian pies but have round pizzas if the Sicilian style is not your cup of tea.

Experience the magic of Brooklyn and enjoy gourmet grub at Dellarocco’s! Nestled in the depths of Brooklyn Heights, Dellarocco’s is about a two-minute walk from the iconic Brooklyn Promenade. Showcasing world-class views of Manhattan and the lush greenery of Brooklyn Heights, Dellarocco’s is a cannot-miss pizza joint.

I have a specific way of eating Dellarocco’s pizza. I get takeout with friends and stroll to the Promenade for a picnic in the summer or spring. I love that they have a white pizza and red pizza menu. I always get the four-cheese white pizza, and it never disappoints.

Paulie Gee’s is for you if you like to get adventurous with your pizza. Located a few blocks from the waterfront, Paulie Gee’s is the perfect casual pizza spot. If you go at night, walk a few blocks over to Noble Street and catch a flick at Skyline Drive, a drive-in movie theater with stunning views of the city.

Paulie Gee’s represents the most beloved aspects of Brooklyn Heights – individuality, warmth, and hospitality abound. I am a picky eater, but even I go out of my way to try the avant-garde offerings at Paulie Gee’s. The King Harry Classic is my go-to!

Giuseppina’s

Quaint, classic, and charming, Giuseppina’s is a Brooklyn Heights gem. Located on the corner of 20th Avenue and 6th, this cozy joint is ideal for date night. Make sure you stop at the nearby Green-Wood Cemetery, and if you dare, take a look at the catacombs.

Like its surroundings, Giuseppina’s is legendary among locals. Never go to Giuseppina’s on even a just-barely-full stomach. Pizzas here are massive and abundant in toppings. Even the cheese pizza has multiple kinds of cheese layered over hand-tossed crust. I love eating here for date night and then taking a stroll through the cemetery!

Lucali

Lucali is a refined spot with a limited menu and a BYOB policy. It is also rated #1 for the best pizza in NYC, so do not let the small menu lead you astray. Lucali is about an eight-minute walk from the Carroll Street subway station. Enjoy views of Carroll Park as you make your way there, and make sure to be there before five for a seat!

Simplicity is the best policy for my pizza preferences, so Lucali is one of my favorites in Brooklyn Heights. The ease of ordering a large pie with basil while sipping on a cocktail takes the stress of eating out from the equation.

On the corner of Classon and Greene Avenue sits Speedy Romeo, an upscale pizza place known for wood-fired pies. Its name comes from the championship-winning horse that belonged to the co-owner Todd Feldman. They use a traditional Italian pizza oven for their pizzas and a Texas mesquite grill for other dishes.

Speedy Romeo packs a punch. If you do not like spicy food, you may be hard-pressed to find something here. However, if you love a good kick, you will be right at home. Chili flakes, spicy sausage, and chili peppers are some featured ingredients.

Family-owned since 1965, Di Fara Pizza is about as authentically Italian as you can get. Founder Domenico De Marco (Dom) immigrated from Italy in the 60s and has made fresh pizza ever since. At age 82, his recipe is pure perfection. You will find Di Fara on the corner of Avenue J and East 15th Street, steps away from the Avenue J subway stop.

Di Fara uses a basic pizza crust but elevates flavors using toppings and spices. My favorite is the white pie with prosciutto and garlic. It is heavenly. They have a few specialty pizzas for grabs, like a chaos pizza with spicy meats and a classic pizza with olives.

Juliana’s

Famous for thin-crust pizzas and its owner, Patsy Grimaldi, Juliana’s is one of the most popular pizzerias in Brooklyn. Eating at Juliana’s is truly an experience, with hospitality and warmth exuding from every dish. You can enjoy views of the Brooklyn Bridge while you dine and explore the riverside parks after your meal.

I always go to Juliana’s when I want a classic slice of pizza. Thin crust is my thing, and I cannot get enough of the Margherita pizza from Juliana’s. Perfectly seasoned sauce, thinly sliced tomatoes, and fresh mozzarella come together for some of the best pizza out there.

If you want to try an elegant pizza joint, check out Barboncino Pizza. Exposed brick walls and creative cocktails make it a Brooklyn Heights staple. Steps away from the bustling Franklin Avenue subway, pizza at Barboncino is both convenient and tasty. After dinner, go to the nearby Dr. Ronald McNair Park, which has game tables available free of charge.

Another spot with red pizza and white pizza selections, Barboncino, takes New York-style pizza to another level. My pick is the Neopolitan Meatball pizza – homemade meatballs and fresh basil on a hand-made crust. I highly recommend the Early Bird cocktail, an Earl Grey-infused vodka blended with pear puree.

Table 87

87 Atlantic Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11201

A cozy pizza joint with nearly waterfront views, Table 87 makes for an excellent lunch or dinner venture. Table 87 has a few locations, but the Atlantic Avenue location is the flagship. Pizzas are hand-tossed and baked in a coal oven for authentic flavor. You will find Table 87 about two blocks from the waterfront, just behind Pier 6.

Whenever I go to Table 87, I always get the Breakfast Pizza. Eggs and pancetta make for a surprisingly delicious pie, and there is no guilt for eating leftovers for breakfast the next day! The prosciutto and arugula pizza is another favorite for those who dislike eggs.

Next to the Clinton-Washington Avenue subway is Emily, a romantic pizza joint. Launched by pizza-loving couple Matt and Emily, the restaurant maintains its small-business charm while being one of the most-visited locales in Brooklyn. The vibes are casual yet refined, and the restaurant exudes love.

Emily only serves pizza on weekends, so finding the perfect time is tricky. I like going after a lazy Saturday morning for a late lunch and grabbing the namesake Emily pizza with friends – pistachios, white sauce, honey, and Italian truffle cheese create a flavor like no other.

There is no shortage of pizzerias in Brooklyn, so finding the best is quite a challenge, albeit a tasty one. These 11 pizza joints are some of the best and loved by locals and visitors alike.

From refined pies to traditional by-the-slice offerings, Brooklyn Heights has the broadest range of pizza in the city.
