Our Guide To The Most Popular Four Loko Flavors

Four Loko defined the university experience for many who attended college in the early 2000s. The controversial drink combined a high alcohol content with caffeine to a jarring effect.

Two cans of FOUR LOKO on the table

The boozy energy drink was extremely popular with college kids, allowing drinkers to get buzzed without the accompanying sleepiness.

However, the wisdom of pairing alcohol and caffeine is dubious at best, and the beverage faced severe backlash.

After multiple states prohibited the drink, Four Loko removed the caffeine and a few other ingredients and re-released the drink into the wild.

In 2010, a modified Four Loko took over the market. The evolved drink remains a popular choice, owing to its wide variety of fruity flavors, reasonable price tag, and high alcohol content.

We’ve collected and examined the best Four Loko flavors to ensure you get the best bang for your three bucks!

This article discusses the tastes and alcohol content of the following Four Loko flavors, ranked by popularity.

Fruit Punch

Fruit Punch Four Loko is a perfectly nostalgic drink. The malt liquor beverage tastes like Hawaiian Punch with an edge.

While a tall can of Four Loko may make you feel like a kid again, the juice is sure to make you tipsy. Each 23.5-ounce can contains 12 percent alcohol by volume.

Additionally, each serving has 156 milligrams of caffeine, so you may be able to reclaim some youthful vigor while sipping the drink.

The fruit punch mimics everything about your favorite childhood juice drinks, including the intense sweetness, so be prepared for a sugar rush.

Grape

All grape-related alcohol is not created equal. Usually, we associate grape alcohol with wine; however, Four Loko doesn’t remotely replicate that flavor.

The beverage tastes a lot like grape soda, so if you’re a fan of that type of pop, you’ll love Four Loko Grape

The sweet drink is best suited to hardcore grape fans. Artificial representations of the flavor are polarizing; the taste tends to be a bit medicinal.

The heavy alcohol content helps take the edge off; the malt beverage contains twelve percent alcohol by volume, which improves the taste the longer you drink.

A 23.5-ounce can of Four Loko grape contains 34 grams of sugar.

Peach

Peach is a beloved flavor that shows up in everything.

The fruit lends a sweet and slightly tart flavor to everything it touches. The mild taste compliments everything, and Four Loko is no exception.

If you’re craving a fuzzy navel, but you’re all out of orange juice, the peach Four Loko is a perfect alternative.

The flavor is one of Four Loko’s most popular. The drink is sweet, and the peach masks the malt liquor taste, leaving a pleasant candy flavor.

With 60 grams of sugar, Four Loko peach is not a healthy drink, so even though it goes down easily, imbibe with care.

Additionally, each 23.5-ounce can have 14 percent alcohol by volume, so pace yourself.

Strawberry Lemonade

Strawberry and lemonade are a classic duo. Like Sonny and Cher or Bert and Ernie, strawberry lemonade‘s popularity transcends the ages.

Strawberry lemonade is one of Four Loko’s most popular flavors. While sweet, the beverage is a more refined take on the Four Loko recipe. The drink is smooth and sweet, with a hint of citrus.

Like all Four Loko flavors, each can contains considerable sugar. Each can has 60 grams of the sweet stuff and twelve percent alcohol by volume.

Strawberry Lemonade Four Loko is comparable to Mike’s Hard Lemonade, just much stronger.

Strawberry lemonade Four Loko is perfect for you if you’re looking for a refreshing beverage to make you pleasantly tipsy at a picnic.

Watermelon

The watermelon Four Loko flavor is not for watermelon enthusiasts.

However, if you’re looking for a drink that tastes like a liquified, alcoholic Jolly Rancher, look no further. The beverage is extremely sweet, at 60 grams of sugar.

Watermelon is a difficult flavor to synthesize. It’s tough to create an authentic replica of the fruit.

The best we can hope for is a palatable version of the candy taste: very sweet and a little tart.

The Watermelon Four Loko is just that; a liquid Airhead with high alcohol content. The artificial flavor isn’t overwhelming, so drink slowly and cautiously.

The twelve percent alcohol by volume creeps up on you since the malt liquor taste doesn’t shine through.

Black Cherry

The black cherry may just be your drink if you’re looking for a slightly lighter Four Loko experience.

The flavor is a hard seltzer instead of the standard Four Loko drinks. While this makes the beverage milder by Four Loko standards, it is still markedly stronger than standard seltzers.

The taste is concentrated and intense. Cherry flavors often leave a potent aftertaste. This seltzer doesn’t evade the trappings of artificial cherry flavoring, so its audience is limited to those who enjoy cherry candies.

Don’t be fooled by the fact that it’s a seltzer. While the calorie and sugar content of black cherry Four Loko is lower than other flavors, the alcohol content is still incredibly high at twelve percent.

Blue Hurricane

Unfortunately for blue drink enthusiasts, the blue hurricane Four Loko flavor is discontinued.

The beverage fell into many of the Four Loko traps; it was extremely sweet, and the flavors were artificial.

However, the potent scent and the unnatural color damaged the blue hurricane’s chances for survival far worse than its taste ever could.

Electrically colored foods and drinks tend to repulse consumers. Additionally, the beverage has a pungent, chemical smell that overpowers its taste.

If you can find one of the remaining blue hurricane Four Loko cans, you’ll enjoy the flavors of pineapple and coconut. The tropical drink has Four Loko’s signature high alcohol and sugar content.

Gold

The flavor of Four Loko gold is ill-defined at best.

The beverage tastes similar to a Red Bull and vodka, distinctive for anyone who’s ever sampled that drink, impossible to explain to anyone who hasn’t.

Four Loko gold is energy drink flavored, so if you enjoy that taste, you’ll be a convert to the beverage.

Gold is polarizing. Some Four Loko enthusiasts love the flavor; some abhor it. The beverage is rarer than other varieties.

The gold flavor is one of Four Loko’s stronger offerings. The beverage has fourteen percent alcohol by volume and 60 grams of sugar.

Four Loko gold has less alcohol than a Red Bull and vodka, so if you’re craving the taste of the cocktail with a smaller impact, grab a can of the malt beverage.

Sour Apple

Sour apple may be Four Loko’s least popular flavor. The taste is intensely artificial.

The company attempts to mask the taste with sugar, but the sweetness can’t hide the unnatural flavor.

However, if you’re hoping for a sweet drink that tastes like melted candy, a sour apple Four Loko may satisfy your urge.

The drink is a bright, neon green, and the color doesn’t do the beverage any favors.

Though it’s not the best Four Loko flavors, each can costs only three dollars, so if you’re a sour apple enthusiast, it won’t break the bank to give the flavor a try.
