If you’re feeling tired, groggy, and irritable, it could be because you didn’t get enough sleep, but it could also be because you’re dehydrated.
Sometimes, drinking enough water isn’t enough to sufficiently hydrate you, especially if you’re a particularly active person, live in a hot climate, or have specific medical needs.
In that case, consuming more electrolytes is key. Electrolytes are minerals that are essential to your body — including calcium, potassium, chloride, magnesium, and sodium — that do a lot to support your body. These electrolytes hydrate your body, balance pH levels, and regulate muscle contractions.
When dissolved in water, they produce charged ions and help electrical signals flow throughout the body to increase your body’s overall performance and health.
These benefits are why you can find an increasing amount of drinks that include electrolytes.
Best Electrolyte Drinks
Here are the best electrolyte drinks to add to your diet today.
Nuun Sport Electrolyte Drink Tablets
Nuun sport Electrolyte Drink Tablets provide a convenient way to drink electrolytes — specifically potassium, sodium, and magnesium — by dropping a flavorful tablet in your water or other favorite beverage.
These electrolytes support muscle relaxation, making this drink a great option after the gym or an equally intense physical activity, like sports or hiking.
I especially love taking them on backpacking trips because they’re lightweight and portable, much more so than carrying a full drink.
For example, I can use a Steri-Pen to clean water from a lake and then drop a Nuun tablet to make a delicious and energy-boosting drink right away.
This drink is also vegan and gluten-free, making it a fantastic low-sugar option for people with dietary restrictions.
Pedialyte Unflavored Electrolyte Solution
Pedialyte used to be known as a drink for kids, but it’s an excellent electrolyte-boosting beverage for both kids and adults.
It’s a great choice if you have a stomach bug causing vomiting or diarrhea, as it will help replenish the electrolytes and fluids you lose.
It’s also a good drink for hangovers, as it can help to rehydrate you and make you feel better more quickly.
I like to store a bottle of Pedialyte in my fridge at all times, just in case I need it.
They have many different flavors and types, but I enjoy the peach mango Pedialyte for immune support that includes Zinc and Selenium in addition to electrolytes.
Essentia water is ionized and alkaline water that contains electrolytes and is great for keeping your body hydrated.
This water is also treated with a special process that adds extra oxygen, which can help improve your energy levels.
I like to drink Essentia water when I’m working out, as it seems to help me stay hydrated and perform at my best. There’s nothing as refreshing after strenuous exercise!
Hydrant Electrolyte Powder Rapid Hydration Mix
Hydrant Electrolyte Powder Rapid Hydration Mix is a powder you mix with water to create a delicious and hydrating electrolyte drink.
Hydrant has an array of tasty flavors, but my favorite is the Iced Tea Lemonade. If you’re looking for something sugar-free, I recommend the Pink Grapefruit flavor.
I also like to keep a packet of this powder on my desk at work so that I can mix up a quick and refreshing drink when I’m feeling dehydrated, especially because I often get very busy and sometimes forget to drink enough water throughout the day.
Of course, it’s important to continue drinking enough water, but having an extra source of electrolytes when you fall short is very useful.
Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier Electrolyte Drink Mix
Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier Electrolyte Drink Mix is another powder you mix with water to create a delicious and hydrating beverage wherever you are.
I think Liquid I.V. not only has one of the best names for a hydrating drink, as it alludes to the power of actually being hooked up to an I.V. in the hospital, but it’s also one of the best-tasting of all electrolyte drinks.
Liquid I.V. doesn’t contain GMOs, and one single stick includes three electrolytes with five supporting vitamins, making it an excellent choice after physical activity or any time of the day.
It also has an extensive list of flavors, but I like Concord Grape, Guave, Passionfruit, and Watermelon the best.
Ultima Replenisher Electrolyte Drink Mix
One of the best electrolyte drinks on this list is called Ultimate Replenisher Electrolyte Drink Mix.
It doesn’t contain any sugar, making it an ideal drink for those on a calorie-deficit diet. But don’t let the word “diet” scare you because this powder tastes delicious.
Like Liquid I.V., there are a whole host of flavors to choose from, and I have many favorites, including:
- Coconut Pina Colada
- Peach Bellini
- Blue Raspberry
- Cherry Pomegranate
What’s more, Ultima is vegan, Paleo-friendly, Keto-friendly, Gluten-free, and non-GMO, so it works with many different diets besides just a calorie-deficit-based one.
Best of all, this convenient drink contains six electrolytes, as opposed to three or four like most of the other options.
Lastly, drinking Vita Coco has been a treat to both my taste buds and my energy levels.
It’s a delicious coconut water drink that provides a convenient way to get plenty of the health benefits of coconuts without climbing a coconut tree and struggling to cut open a fresh coconut with a knife.
And of course, if you don’t reside in a tropical environment, you don’t even have this more difficult option to choose from!
There are many nutrients and vitamins in coconut water, and Vita Coco contains water from Southeast Asian and Brazilian coconuts.
I love including this water in my smoothies for flavor and health purposes.

Also, many offer a way to energize or re-energize after extensive physical activity without the need for unhealthy energy drinks or excessive caffeine.
