Your Guide to Philadelphia’s Craft Distilleries & Spirits

Find your new favorite liquor at these places in Philly.

When in Philadelphia, there’s no doubt you’ll have plenty of bars to try. Although there are some amazing spots here, I would say there’s no better place to grab a drink or two than a distillery. With small-batch liqour, tasting rooms, and even tours of the whole distillery, you can really get the full experience at these spots. However, it can be hard to know which distilleries are the best. To help make this decision a bit easier, I’ve put together a list of my favorite distilleries in town.

Whether you’re all about whiskey or only drink vodka, there’s plenty of distilleries to choose from, all with delicious drinks to try. While some spots on my list are all about alcohol, others offer food as well. Keep reading to learn more about each place!

Founded in 2005, Philadelphia Distilling was the first craft distillery since Prohibition. Crafting spirits perfect for mixing in cocktails or drinking alone, this is a spot worth visiting. They also offer guided tours of the distillery so you can see the behind-the-scenes action.

The distillation process involve six carefully enacted steps, resulting in high-quality spirits. We recommend the Bluecoat American dry gin or the bay seasoned vodka. They even have cocktail recipes on their website to make when you go home!


New Liberty Distillery

If you’re partial to whiskey when it comes to drinks, check out New Liberty Distillery. Located just outside of Center City, this spot is actually housed in an old stable. With a bar, tasting room, and tours, you’ll learn and explore everything you need to at this spot.

Prioritizing local ingredients, Red Brick Craft Distillery is another spot you have to try next time you’re in town. Creating small batches of delicious spirits, this spot will help you rediscover alcohol.

Red Brick Craft Distillery offers all sorts of spirits like single malt whiskey, from the woods black birch, pineapple rum, and simple shine sugar wash rum. Check out the tours, tasting, cocktails, and bottle sale options the offer. Their open to public Saturdays so be sure to swing by!

Calling all vodka lovers! Stateside Vodka is a popular distillery in Philadelphia. As an award-winning distillery, it’s no surprise people enjoy the drinks here so much. With the distillery itself and a cocktail bar, there’s plenty to do here.

Stateside offers more than just vodka, they also have canned vodka sodas for when you want something different. Their vodka is gluten-free, kosher, mineral enhanced, cold filtered, free of carbs and sugar, and distilled seven times!

Though smaller and lesser-known than other distilleries in Philadelphia, Palmer Distilling Co. cultivates delicious spirits. This distillery is actually run by a local couple, so you can count on having a personable experience.

Palmer Distilling Co. offers a limited range of products including gin, whiskey, and local beers. Be sure to buy the gin specifically, as it has won multiple awards. You can also find cocktail recipes on their website for when you take a bottle home!


City Distilling

Located on State Rd., City Distilling is a small but great distillery in town. This local spot is a fairly new addition to the distillery scene, opening in 2019. Focusing on vodka and “city sips” there’s plenty of delicious drinks to try here.

City Distilling’s vodka, or City Street Vodka, is gluten-free and distilled from 100% corn. The city sips, on the other hand, are actually to-go cocktails made from City Street Vodka and other delicious ingredients!


Bluebird Distilling

A grain-to-glass distillery, Bluebird Distilling is located in Phoenixville. This spot creates world-class spirits using a hybrid copper still. Using a six-step process including fermenting and aging, this distillery’s spirits are high-quality and delicious.

Bluebird Distilling offers straight spirits as well as cocktails, both of which you can try for yourself in the tasting room. Be sure to try the cool cool cool, bluebird, bittersweet symphony, or vice city. Don’t forget to take a bottle home with you!

Located in Eddington, 1675 Spirits is a distillery you have to taste to believe. Using local ingredients that are 100% non-GMO, you can bet this alcohol is top-notch. Housed in an inviting atmosphere, you’ll right at home at this spot.

Selling small-batch spirits to the Philadelphia area, 1675 Spirits offers tasting and tours. Specifically, they sell vodka and whiskey, perfect for delicious cocktails. You can also order spirits online, as long as you live in the Philly area. They even customized stamped labels and customized spirits!


Manatawny Still Works Craft Spirits Shop and Tasting Room

When you’re looking for a distillery but are hoping to eat as well, check out Manatawny Still Works Craft Spirits Shop and Tasting Room. With a distillery, bar, and tasting room, there’s a lot to check out here.

Manatawny Still Works produces small-batch spirits like whiskey, gin, vodka, and more. They also offer a bit of food in case you’re feeling hungry. Try out the singing fountain, Italian market, tinned smoked mussles in olive oil, or seasonal pickle bowl!


Four Humours

Rounding out our list of distilleries is Four Humours. This local distillery is all about balance and purity. With a focus on pure ingredients, perfect ratios, and spot-on aging times, there’s no doubt the spirits and drinks here are delicious.

Four Humours focuses on whiskey, offering a tasting experience as well as cocktails. They also have beer, wine, and a few small snacks. We recommend the bramble, bacon old fashioned, black and blue, or the sour. Be sure to try a flight too if you can’t decide!


Final Thoughts

Philadelphia is definitely filled with great bars, but as you can see, it also has plenty of distilleries to try too. And I don’t know about you, but I would argue the best drinks are those right from the source.
