Harvest Cafe’s motto says it all: It’s great food with a mission. While they’re serving up tasty breakfast, lunch, and brunch food Wednesday through Sunday, they’re teaching the next generation of restaurateurs, chefs, and servers how to be a productive part of a successful daytime restaurant.

Trainees in the program get hands-on training and education in the food industry, equipment use, and proper hygiene practices.

With a classically delicious menu of omelets, waffles, benedicts, and more, you might just become a regular at Harvest Cafe. My personal favorite breakfast item is the blueberry pancakes, but when I’m splurging, I always go for the Harvest Benedict. Crab cakes, poached eggs, and hollandaise on a potato roll are a genius combination.

In an unassuming location on Schuyler Street, near the St. George Theater, lies Beso, a classic Spanish joint offering some of the best lunch (and dinner) food on the island. You’ll love their moody interiors and commitment to authenticity.

Their burgers are to die for (the Beso Burger with caramelized onions and bleu cheese is outstanding), the wraps are Spanish-inspired delights, and their pressed sandwiches are a must-try. The classic Cuban sandwich (El Cubano) is one of the best in New York.

Spurce: The Stone House at Clove Lakes

For an eclectic, contemporary brunch experience, look no further than The Stone House at Clove Lakes. Nestled scenically in Clove Lakes Park, The Stone House offers a three-course brunch that will blow your mind.

If you’re looking for a swanky brunch with family or a new beau, this is the place. Executive Chef Antonio Vasquez Flores has been a fixture in the Staten Island restaurant scene since 1987, and his seasonally-inspired menus are the talk of the town.

While you’ll want to fill up on the scrumptious Cheddar Corn Muffins with Chipotle Honey Butter, save room for the Chicken and Waffles, Cookie Butter Flapjacks, or any of the other stellar brunch entrees on the menu. Paired with a brunch cocktail (the BLT Bloody Mary could be a meal in itself) and a perfectly-portioned dessert (I recommend the Chocolate Trifle Jar), you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu at The Stone House.

On Bay Street, a short walk from Buono Beach, Bayou is a New Orleans-inspired eatery packed with locals and character. From live music to holiday specials, there’s always something going on at Bayou.

Their small, carefully crafted menu is perfect for Cajun food aficionados, newcomers to the scene, and everyone in between. Their appetizers are the star of the show, and I can’t leave without housing an order of the Shrimp Remoulade. Whether you fill up with a po’boy, a muffuletta, or a perfect bowl of seafood jambalaya, your first lunch at Bayou will turn you into a regular.

Their two-course brunch (three if you count the complimentary glass of champagne) is sure to please, with options that will satiate any breakfast-goer. My personal favorite combo is the Croque Madame with a side of polenta and an Aperol spritz. For a brunch menu that doesn’t pull any punches, add a Bruno’s trip to your schedule soon.

Right down the road from Bayou on Bay Street, J’s On The Bay is a classic American diner that doesn’t hold back. While the themed dining experience might sound strange, don’t pass up this A1 brunch opportunity available seven days a week.

With an innovative brunch menu that won’t maim your wallet, J’s has something for everyone. Their egg sandwiches (the Peppers & Eggs is my go-to dish) are delicious, their pork cheddar omelet is off the charts, and the French batter croissant (topped with Nutella mascarpone) is a must-try. Most importantly, don’t skip the Salt and Vinegar Fries. Trust me.

Proudly perking up West Brighton is Beans and Leaves Coffee and Tea Cafe. A charming cafe adorned with coffee-inspired art and photos of regulars, Beans and Leaves is an upbeat respite from the city grind.

The cafe is pairing classic coffee and tea beverages with affordable breakfast treats that will keep you coming back, and I have to stop in every time I pass by. Their Belgian waffles are the star of the show, and they’re taking the breakfast staple to a whole new level at Beans and Leaves. My son orders the Cap’n Crunch Waffle every time, without fail, but I’m more of a Cinnabon Waffle guy myself.

Their three-course Sunday brunch includes a complimentary mimosa, bellini, or bloody mary, and their scrumptious and authentic antipasto bar will keep you coming back for seconds. Whether you veer towards the breakfast offerings or make a beeline for the lunch fare, every choice is a good one at Lorenzo’s.

You’ll find yourself stealing a bite from every plate at your table—yes, even your kid’s Belgium Waffle with whipped cream and M&Ms.

You can’t miss this subterranean spot on Hylan Boulevard near Miller Field with walls covered in bright purple flowers. Violette’s Cellar looks and feels exclusive, and it’s the perfect venue for a brunch session with your girlfriends or a stylish breakfast date with your boo.

The food is killer, and Violette’s cocktails will inspire you. Blue serves breakfast favorites and raw bar classics on the waterfront, neighboring the Staten Island Museum, the Snug Harbor Botanical Gardens, and The Newhouse Center of Contemporary Art. With downright coastal views, a classy dining room, and outside seating, Blue delivers on both flavors and atmosphere.

Appetizers at Blue are outstanding. The vegetarian starters are numerous and delicious, and you can never go wrong with raw oysters. The Breakfast Focaccia is a filling must-try, the BEC (bacon, egg, and cheese) Burger is a staple. And, when it comes to brunch booze, Blue has it on lock.

With an unmatched wine list, frozen margaritas, a well-curated scotch selection, craft cocktails, and brunch favorites, this menu could cure your hangover and create your next one.

You asked for the best brunch on Staten Island, and your wish was granted. The next step: walking on down to one of these killer brunch joints and trying out their scrumptious entrees, savory favorites, and productivity-destroying cocktails for yourself.

Most importantly, don’t be That Guy after a stint with bottomless bellinis. Make sure you have a sober ride arranged for the trip home. Even if you’re not imbibing, you can never be too careful: Food comas are a serious matter.
