All you can eat sushi? Yes, please. Whenever I have a hankering for something spicy, my go-to is always sushi. Sushi Masa’s all-you-can-eat menu satisfies every sushi craving you could possibly have. My personal favorite is the Spicy Salmon Roll, but the Philadelphia Roll with smoked salmon and cream cheese gives me total Northeastern vibes. Sushi Masa is a quick detour from the Mall of Louisiana, which makes it super convenient when I’m visiting town and want to grab something while I’m shopping. If I’m not up for an all-you-can-eat meal, I love grabbing a few things off the menu to take home and nosh on.

Ichiban Sushi Bar & Grill is one of the best high-class sushi options in Baton Rouge. If you’re down on Essen Lane, you’ll love the fun atmosphere at Ichiban. It’s a pretty popular spot, to put it mildly, so if you’re planning on heading there for dinner, make a reservation ahead of time. Otherwise, be prepared to wait a bit. I love ordering the Tokyo Poppers for an app because they’re the perfect mix of contemporary and traditional Japanese flavors. As for my sushi, well, that’s always a tough one. My first choice is the Dragon Roll. It’s delicious, especially with the BBQ eel on top. But the Cucumber Roll is always excellent when I want something light and cool.

If you’ve ever visited New Orleans and had the pleasure of dining at Tsunami, you’ll be thrilled to know there’s a sister store in Baton Rouge. You’ll get the same delicious food, with a fun and modern atmosphere. One thing I’ll say about Tsunami–the chefs know how to make food look almost too good to eat. The presentation of the food is absolutely gorgeous. I’ve truly never seen anything like it. The first time I ordered the Sunflower, I was almost sad to pick apart the stunning floral presentation. It was worth it, though, don’t worry. Tsunami is another restaurant that can get quite a wait going. If you’re heading in during peak hours, take a few minutes to reserve a table early so you can get in and get eating right away.

The Waka House has two convenient locations right in Baton Rouge. The first is right near Louisiana State’s campus, and the other is in the Hidden Grove area.  It’s a bit of a no-brainer that you should grab the LSU Roll when you go to Waka House. It’s all about that Louisiana flavor, with spicy crawfish and crab-stuffed inside soy paper and rice and topped with spicy mayo.  If you want something a bit more traditional, the Salmon Lovers Roll will do just fine. The portion size is perfect for sharing, but one plate could easily be a meal on its own.

Wahada is located in the Arlington area and offers a lovely assortment of traditional Japanese dishes. If you’re not up for surprises and want something tried and true, Wahada should be the first place you go.  My personal favorite is the Futomaki roll. The pickled veggies give the dish a tasty kick, and the avocado offers a nice creaminess that ties all the flavors together. However, if you want something that has a bit more local flavor, you can try out the New Orleans Roll, which is stuffed full of tasty crawfish.

Sushi Yama is a popular sushi spot in Baton Rouge that’s been featured in multiple publications for its stellar food. It offers some of the freshest sushi in the area, making its dishes some of the best you’ll find.  I’m a big fan of the Hawaiian Seafood Salad at Sushi Yama. The chefs do a superb job of mixing tropical flavors with refreshing, tasty sashimi, salty roe, and a sweet chili dressing.  Sushi Yama is located in downtown Baton Rouge, so if you have business in the area, definitely stop in for a bite.

Located just off I-10, Rock-n-Sake has one of the best atmospheres you’ll find in a sushi restaurant with unique dishes to match. The thing I like the most about this restaurant is that it offers something for everyone.  Not a sushi fan? Then grab an order of the Pork Belly Tacos that are sweetened up with crispy Granny Smith apples. In a veggie mood? The Holy Shishito Peppers should be calling your name.  But if you’re there for the sushi, definitely order up a serving of the Fulton Street Roll. It’s absolutely delicious and topped with Rock-n-Sake’s homemade eel sauce.

Drunken Fish is located in the Highland Perkins area and offers a mix of Japanese and Vietnamese flavors. There’s a great selection of sushi dishes, as well as several kinds of pho and hu tieu.  I like stopping in to grab a Sushi Bento Box for lunch with a serving of miso soup. It’s just filling enough to hold me over for the rest of the day. They also have some fantastic lunch specials to check out, including the Curry Chicken, which is delicious.  If you’re in the mood for some noodles, though, definitely set your sights on the Pork and Egg Roll Vermicelli.

I’m a huge tempura fan, so when I’m in the mood for something crunchy, I head right for Tiger Sushi. It’s a great little spot in Hidden Grove to grab lunch or dinner on the go.  Their chicken tempura is phenomenal in a simple yet delicious way. It’s fried up crispy with mixed vegetables, and it’s the perfect size for a light lunch or dinner. And since there’s really nothing better than fried jalapeños, I like to throw in an order of Crab Stick Jalapeño to get my fix of spiciness for the day.  However, if you’re on the hunt for a massive selection of sushi, Tiger Sushi is definitely the place to be. They have dozens of traditional choices mixed perfectly with unique offerings, like the Big Easy or the Hard Rock rolls. There’s definitely something for every taste, so keep Tiger Sushi in mind next time you’re craving sushi.

Nagoya Sushi is conveniently located in central Baton Rouge, so it’s easily accessible no matter where you are in the city. They have a decent selection of sushi you can order a la carte, so it’s easy to make your meal exactly what you’re craving.  This is another great place to find some spicy local sushi adaptations. My favorite is the Baton Rouge roll, which is a 10-piece dish of spicy crawfish and tempura shrimp topped with a perfectly balanced mix of eel sauce and spicy mayo. A pro tip for visiting Nagoya is to save room for the Red Bean Mochi or Tempura Ice Cream. Both are yummy options if you want to finish off your meal with something sweet.

If you’re planning a day at the water park, you should check out Hello Sushi. It’s right around the corner from the Blue Bayou waterpark, so it’s a convenient stop for lunch. I like to stop in for an energy boost after spending the day splashing around in the water. The dishes are a bit large, so they’re definitely perfect for sharing. One of my favorite dishes is the Tuna Tartar because the spicy yuzu sauce offers the fish such a unique flavor.  The Orleans roll is definitely my favorite sushi roll, though. It’s simple, combining spicy crawfish with asparagus, but packs such a flavorful punch.

One of the best things about the Tokyo Cafe is that it has a long list of lunch specials to choose from when you go in during the day. In addition, their lunch window is long, running from 10 am til 2:30. So whether you need an early lunch or prefer to eat later, you won’t have a problem grabbing one of their specials.  When I stop in for lunch, I usually grab a Sushi and Sashimi Bento Box so I can sample a nice variety of rolls. However, when I want something a bit out of the ordinary, the tastiest a la carte dish is the Cowboy Roll. It combines crawfish, shrimp, and snow crab and is topped with torched filet mignon.
